About Empellon Taqueria
Open Dinner & Brunch. We opened our doors on March 22nd, 2011 with the intention of treating tacos with a high level of respect and serving them in a fun environment. Which is how I believe tacos should be enjoyed. We designed the menu with the idea that most ingredients worth eating can benefit further by being placed atop a well-made tortilla. We push our kitchen team to explore the ubiquitous flavors that we all love about Mexican cooking in this country as well as the less obvious ones that we all should love. Empellon's approach to cuisine is informed by authenticity but is not limited by it.

Empellon Taqueria Ratings and Reviews
Definitely worth a visit. Unique flavors. Everything was delicious from the original takes on margaritas to the tacos (we had conchita pibil - roast pork - which was tender and full of flavor. Also had the steak taco that was out of this world.) I regret not trying the sopes, but will definitely try it on my next visit. If you like salsa and chips, get the 7 salsas...they offer a wide range of flavors - mild to very spicy, smokey cashew, tomatillo, etc. Service was attentive, professional and helpful with suggestions.
This was my third or fourth time to Empellon and this time the quality of the food was very low. All tacos we had were dry (shrimp, duck, fish tempura). The shrimp almost tasted undercooked too. The guacamole was excellent and our server was great, but if I go out for (expensive) tacos and get something inedible, I’m not going to be back....
Fabulous dinner on Halloween party night. We were welcomed and the service was great throughout the evening . The place was buzzing with bar environment at front and different layouts of bars and tables. At the back we were located at a nice corner table. The back room is nicely decorated and less loud with a range of tables accommodating groups of different sizes with plenty of space and comfort . Really enjoyed all the food which was original and well prepared with some superb tastes. Highly recommend and was very good value for money.
Some of the best tacos and salsas I've ever had. Try all of the salsas...just like their tacos, they are so complex, so delicious, and so different. Going just for the salsas is worth it. If you try to make them from the restaurants cook book, which I did, you'll probably give up because of how difficult they are to make and for how many unique ingredients they require. Gives you another type of appreciation for the work that goes into the food they serve, and they deliver. Excellent...
Love this place! Always have had a great meal and fun time on every visit! Many people automatically equate Mexican food and drink to typical tacos, burritos, margaritas, and such, but it can be so very much more, and Empellon delivers consistently on that promise. Very tasty!
This was our first visit since the restaurant opened some years back, and it's great to see the quality upheld. Our visit coincided with brunch, which has a relatively limited menu, but the Heuvos Fundido is a delicious novelty. My only cavil was the somewhat elevated prices (how did we end up with a $80 brunch, sans liquor?) and lackadaisical service (e.g., lag getting a coffee refill and the check). Looking forward to exploring the menu further.
Food is amazing! We love their salsa's and how different and delicious they are. Their tacos are amazing and the service is great. Only downside is we were sat at high-top which butted up to the bar which was 2/3 deep with people. Too close for comfort when I was trying to eat and fighting for elbow space with people behind me. Didn't destroy the experience, as everyone from bar was sat halfway through our meal.
Sadly food has gone way down hill!!!
Portions have shrunk.
Steak tacos taste dry and old meat ~
Crazy expensive. Street tacos are 1,000 times better .. hit your local taco truck. This place is a rip off.
Service excellent! Really the best part of the night.
The food used to be amazing.
Will not be back.
Definitely worth checking out this wonderful neighborhood taqueria with fantastic food. Perhaps the best guacamole that we've had started our meal, the lobster, goat and sea bass tacos were all fantastic. And the salsas! They are each wonderful, smoky and highly recommended. Service was great and attentive too and the cucumber margarita fresh and definitely hit the spot.
My husband, mother and I were visiting New York City and decided to try Empellon Taqueria. It was phenomenal. The food was exception and a unique take on tacos and such. Cashew salsa, queso topped with Shishito peppers, tacos with brussel sprouts and toasted almonds, fish tempura tacos with slaw...I could go on and on. Our server, Ashley, was great. She was helpful with the menu and very pleasant. The manager came out to check on us and was also helpful and sincere in his appreciation of our business. Empellon has a vibrant scene, both bar and dinner. The front of the house is louder and they play great music, but they do offer a back dining room that is quieter if that is your goal. I would eat here again in a heartbeat. 5 stars all around.
