What Insiders Are Saying
As we’re all well aware, Mexican food in Manhattan generally blows. Empellon hasn’t come to save the day, but it isn’t adding to the problem either. While nothing blew us away, the food was solid with the good outweighing the bad.
The host was absolutely amazing at accommodating our group. Made sure we were taken care of. Was really good for a large group as well.
The tacos were really good. Brussel sprout tacos were a triumph as was the skirt steak. Barbacoa lacked seasoning but was super tender. The guac was tasty but not notably better / different than other places - you're better off ordering something more unique to them. Desserts were super interesting and original.
The service was good but the staff was relentlessly on us if we were done with a plate - you could really feel the pressure to turn tables. I would recommend this for a quick dinner but if you want a leisurely catch up with friends or a romantic date to get to know someone, this is not the place.
GNO... great ambiance
Made us really sick.
The best, most adventurous Mexican in nyc. Period!
Everything about this restaurant is amazing! The food, the service, and the ambiance were exactly what I was looking for. Will be coming back for sure!
Awesome experience as always. One of my favorites. Great service! Amazing margaritas, guacamole, and salsa! Will come back time and time again!
Food was delicious, out of the ordinary Mexican - a nice change!
Our server was outstanding!
Very expensive lunch. Bloody Mary’s were disgusting. Will not return. Service was excellent.
The food was fresh, flavorful and pretty much perfect.
The twice cooked pork is fantastic, so are the large scampi appetizers.
Dinner was amazing as usual ! Lovely staff. Manager Carlos and Luke (former server now bartender)took very good care of us!
Tolles Personal, tolles Ambiente und tolles Essen
Unique taco selection with many of the elevated Mexican staples. Good for a girls’ dinner or date night.
Loved our server. I forget what her name was but she was so sweet and helpful. Also the margaritas are the best in NYC and the food is incredible!
Brunch also has the full menu available (except daily special taco). Pastrami, fish tempura, skirt steak and Brussels sprouts tacos are amazing. 10am Shadow & Our Bloody Mary are the right way to start a weekend day...
Way too expensive for what you get.. would’ve expected better tacos based on the price.
Food was pretty yummy and service was very friendly and accommodating! Would definitely recommend if you like tacos and tapas style food
Always delicious and great hospitality team!!!
The food was delicious, presented beautifully, and provided both meat and meatless options.
Service was exceptional and very nice:)
Hope to be back soon!
Made a 1 year anniversary very special and extremely tasty food to boot especially the carnitas entree which well seasoned with salt and lime
It was Labor Day weekend, so unusually quiet. There were still people there but we finished our dinner within 45 minutes! This is including apps, entrees, dessert and drinks! We weren’t rushed by any means, things just came out quickly and we dove in accordingly. Love this place.
Our waitress was amazing, probably one of the best service experiences I’ve had in a very long time!
I went for my birthday with a group of 4 and was not disappointed. We had loads of cocktails, all of which were very good, and they brought a free round of tequila for my birthday. We enjoyed their guac and LOVED their cashew salsa. I put it on everything throughout the whole meal! We also tried their chorizo queso fundido. It was very good and we ate every last morsel but I have had better in other restaurants.
For dinner, we ordered a bunch of tacos so we could all try each of them. Surprisingly, my favorite of all of them was the brussel sprouts - so good. Amongst the others, the chicken taco was slightly dry, the fish taco was dry and needed some sort of sauce and the steak taco was good but was seasoned in a way that hardly any steak taste came through - it tasted like sauce and onions but not really like steak. My friend also had the lobster tacos and she enjoyed them. Overall, we really did enjoy our meal and ate everything!
Our waiter was wonderful. He was super attentive, very helpful and really made it a great evening celebrating my birthday. We ordered 2 desserts to share and he brought one out with a candle and sang. It was really, really nice.
I definitely would recommend this restaurant for a fun night (especially for a birthday or special occasion) with a group because it condones sharing, is a fun, lively environment with great service and the drinks are delicious!
Way too loud!!!!!
a bit loud for business, but fun and great food, great help. Five stars!
Fabulous all around! Great food , drinks, service, atmosphere!
Adam and Andrew were amazing! Excellent service and gauc! Thanks for the great dining experience! Will be back again soon!
Had an amazing experience (food and service). Every member of the waitstaff was helpful, friendly and on top of it.
Started with the salsa tasting. Loved the green salsa. The cashew was interesting too.
Then had steak, chicken and fish tacos (two of each, to share). The fish was my favorite. Boyfriend liked the steak. I probably would not get the chicken again. It wasn’t bad, just the least memorable and interesting part of the meal.
Also ordered rice and beans, which we loved. One side comment on that. They tasted more like something we got in New Orleans rather than Mexican rice and beans... but yummy.
Finished off with the ice cream sandwich. He scarfed it down, despite being “full.” So I’m guessing it was good.
We paid $100 for all of this (no alcohol, just two sodas). Not sure it will become my Saturday night taco place. But I highly recommend it.
This is a great place to get High end Mexican. Def a scene to be dealt with but the service is spot on with original takes on classic recipes
Delicious food in a fun and festive environment. Fish and steak tacos were delicious. Chicken taco not so much. Appetizers Shisito peppers, guacamole, and sweet potato flatulas were flavorful and would definitely order again. Really liked my waitress who served us by the window. Tacos are expensive for what you receive. However, I would still go back in a heartbeat.
Great service, very tasty food & cocktails!
Chic decor & worthy spot!
The service is awful. We made a reservation for 8 pm, were told to wait, at 8:30 after prompting the hostess she realized she had messed up, and seated us. She did not apologize for the inconvenience, and we spent the remainder of the meal trying to flag down our server.
Love this place, going this weds again but to the Madison Ave location.
Interesting take on Mexican-based brunch. The food was fresh and tasty, and the menu had good variety. What made the experience stand out was the friendly host, good cold brew, and overall good service. Definitely recommended.
Ironically the thing we liked least was the dessert. The drinks and ceviche were awesome as were the interesting salsas.
Best Mexican in nyc.
It’s a trendy nyc restaurant in the village. Loud atmosphere, close tables, pricey menu. I thought the food was strange... Inventive, but some of the flavors were a miss. The atmosphere was positive and fun but we also had very slow service and it seemed like everyone in our seating area did as well. Go for the cocktails!
I love the food here. So interesting and unusual and beautifully presented. However it is LOUD. And that takes a sense of humor since you and your meal companion can't talk very much while you are REALLY enjoying the food.
Best to go to the back room on a slow day. If you can find a slow day. Really delicious!
