Good food. Could probably put a couple of more standard (kid friendly) things on menu. I had a 16 year old that was challenged to order. But ultimately happy!’
Loved everything beginning with service, waiters, atmosphere and especially the food...highly recommend!
The food was ok, the service was ok, we felt rushed during our business lunch at 12:15 on Thursday
This is our second time at Empellon and even though I don't like dining at NYC restaurants more than once (there are just too many good restaurants to try) I had to go back for the smoked black cod, the sea bream and the avocado dessert. We had another spectacular meal with some fun and creative tequila/mezcal cocktails and I will continue to break my rule and we will definitely go back a third time. The service was also outstanding from our table captain to everyone we came in contact with.
Great meal - would be even better for large groups for sharing.
Way too expensive, please review the prices for lunch menu
Fantastic in every way! Amazing food! Great staff. I love it!
We have been looking forward to trying Empellon's Midtown location (loved Lower East Side)...and were not disappointed! Had some out of town friends with us (no trouble visiting and talking) they could not stop raving! Server was knowledgeable and gave great advice on selections. Definitely recommend the prix fixe menu, great value! Unbelievable flavors ! Guacamole with seven sauces is an incredible presentation as well as taste! Cabbage salad and Tamal were great together. Short Rib and Sea Bream outstanding. Had room for dessert - don't miss the Avocado! We are eager to go back!
Perhaps it was a Sunday; but food did not live up to its reviews or my previous visit Service was very good. Also room became very chilly every time door was opened,
First time Empellon . We had high expectations. They were met.
Great service with a great sense of timing.
Food was terrific. It was beautifully presented, reflectant all the good in the diversity and flavour of the Mexican kitchen(s), creative and succesful variations on traditional dishes, without being pretentious.
Like a short visit to the top culinary stratum in Mexico City. Creative and interestingly flavored but very tasty food. Great evening out in NYC.
Very good, interesting Mexcian food. Fish tacos were amazing. Not an inexpensive place. One complaint -- they seated us sort of alone, kind of under the stairs. Two other rooms had better tables.
Excellent food and service!! Loved the decor. Will defiantly come back!!
Everything about this place is top notch. Table Guacamole with seven salsas — must order! We had the fish tacos and the octopus tacos, both delicious. Also, the Brussel sprouts in chili oil were heavenly. Be careful ordering as it gets pricey:).
Food was great. Inventive and interesting. Ambiance was relaxed and casual. We got the tamale, salsas, shishito peppers, octopus tacos, and tempura tacos. All were fantastic. Service was spotty. Our food arrived before our drinks, and our drinks were often left empty for quite awhile. Our server seemed to be focused on a table with more patrons than ours with just two people.
Last minute find, would recommend the food, Mexican with a twist. The Guacamole with seven different salsa sides was good. We then had three of the tacos, was enough food, can recommend the falafel and thick cut bacon taco. Also had the hash brown taco, it was okay but to be honest not the best of the three. Would recommend this restaurant for a twist on Mexican food, good ambience, modern and stylish setting with friendly staff.
All was very good. Ambience better than exoected. Good quality and well presented. Disappointed after leaving found out they recharged for refills in our kids ice teas. 24$! 8 $ each.. in a pricy plates place this is not good client service. Everywhere is free or you have to advice clearly. Thanks.
Early dinner on a Friday night. Did not disappoint. We tried many menu items - each better that the one before! Try the avocado dessert!
Great dinner and service
Other than waiting longer than my reservation time, I felt very glad to have this experience
Loud and flashy, Empellon has unusual Mexican dishes (pastrami tacos?). it's obviously a very popular place -- the noise level is challenging. Service was good, food was good but not memorable. We all enjoyed it.
Attentive bar staff, good dinner options
Very interesting food. Fun and exciting. And the service was superb.
I made a reservation here based on the location (close to our hotel) and the recent Finalist nomination as a James Beard best new restaurant. I am SO glad I went here! The vibe is elegant casual. The cocktails were amazing, but the food was the real highlight. We had theatre tickets and they have a nice 3 course pre-theatre menu for a reasonable $48 per person, with some options to choose from. The starters were delicious, the main course was amazing, and the desserts knocked my socks off! Service was friendly and attentive, and we had no problems getting to our show on time. Love this place!
The only really good thing was the fish taco. I prefer my guacamole hotter with more acid and flavor. The salsa tray and chips were good. Octopus taco and short ribs bland to me. Service was pleasant.
Very good food, great service and pleasant decor. I would revisit the restaurant for sure.
Truly one of the best meals I’ve had anywhere in the world. From cocktails through multiple courses and exquisite deserts, the attention to detail was never missing. Outstanding depth of flavor and the perfect amazing amount of heat to know it was there without overwhelming the flavors. Be sure and order the avocado dessert, it’s not what you think and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Outstanding service by Adriano, trust him, he will not lead you wrong. This is my new go to spot in New York and I can’t wait to return.
Creative Mexican cuisine... crab nachos with sea urchin is a must and by far my favorite. The “avocado” dessert was excellent - I liked that it was citrusy and not too sweet, perfect for palate cleansing after a heavy meal.
I personally would not go back
Loved the new take on Mexican food.
Best desserts ever! Eat light and save space. Good for pre theatre
Great food and presentation. Highly recommend it!
Prefix lunch menu consisting of quinoa salad, two pork tacos and a chocolate ice cream is $38. Plus drink, plus tax, plus tip your prefix lunch goes up to $60 and you leave the place hungry.
Fantastic! The guacamole, 7 salsas & Chips are a must order, those Salsas are out of this World! Our server was Awesome & when you see Chef Alex Stupak walking in checking on things, that’s a great sight. We drove 9 hours to eat here & it didn’t disappoint.
Our server was amazing. Great staff and food
Service was awesome, food was very good. Ambiance is also very cool.
We had a fantastic dinner with my family at Empellon during Easter when we where visiting NYC. All 4 of us think this is THE best Mexican food we have ever had it any restaurant in any place in the world. And we have tried quite many places before this. Especially our waiter Adriano took very good care of us and was so good at giving guidance of which courses to choose so everything would be the best experience ever. Also the bartendes were a lot of fun also taking time to create special virgin cocktails for our teenage children.
We will highly recommend this very special place to people who seeks this bit extra and luxurious food at the same time.
Hope we get the chance to come back next year.
Br the family on 4 from Denmark
Bacon tacos were delicious!
Banana ice cream for dessert
It was lovely. The service is outstanding and the food is unique
Had a phenomenal business lunch at Empellón this week. The food and service were superb and the workers were attentive and knowledgeable. I'm gluten free and had already checked that they had options for me, but they really took precautions and knew all ingredients and the cooking process. And the fruit plate dessert was totally unique! Delicious bites of tropical tastes that were prepared in such ways I'd never seen before - from a bite of "papaya salad" with peanuts and lime, to a coconut ice cream bite that looked like a rock, to a lychee on a leaf in poached pear sauce. Yummm!
