This was a bit overpriced but the food really was very good, inventive and nicely presented. Service was stylish but not snotty.

Interesting menu. Waiter was helpful explaining the items. Delicious variety of tastes and textures. Good quality wine by the glass. Atmosphere pleasant, not too loud. Music could be improved but OK because not too loud. We will go back again.

We had a great meal at Empellon. Every dish we had was creative and delicious. The service was welcoming and friendly, but unobtrusive. We would definitely go here again. It sets the bar for high quality Mexican cuisine.

Our first trip to this restaurant and we loved it. The cabbage salad was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. We shared three tacos, the fish, the potato and the falafel. The fish was the best of the three. We also shared the chocolate mousse dessert, the best!

We chose the restaurant for pre-theater dining on the recommendation of a local food critic. It met our exceedingly high expectations. Everything was wonderful.

Delicious meal. Have been here multiple times with colleagues and clients. Highly recommend their octopus dishes. Their spicy cucumber margarita is so delicious- I find myself craving it! Their desserts are also super creative as they change their menu seasonally. We had the watermelon sorbet which was truly unique with various textures - crunchy topping, creamy outer layer and sweet tangy middle layer.

The gnocchi (supposedly a main course) was so small my son had to order something in addition. ... my husband had pork belly and was sick the next day..I had short ribs and the meat was nice but the mix of grapes and things with it was too sweet...

Off-the-chart creativity! Lovely space, uncrowded and bright. Our service was spot on, attentive without being overbearing and anxious to please. Then the food! This is the highest form of creativity, with finest, freshest ingredients assembled in extremely flavorful ways. The quinoa salad was simple perfection, the pastrami taco pure genius. The desserts are their own realm; there should be a restaurant where you can go just for these. Will go back on next visit to the city.

Food was amazing and definitely makes you want to try everything on the menu. Hostess could have been a bit more hospitable. Booked a table for 2 and they wouldn't seat me without my friend. Told me that all parties must arrive before they could seat me. I went to the bar to see if I could order some drinks while I wait but all seats and standing tables were taken by the happy-hour goers. I asked if I could be seated at the sitting tables near the bar -they said I can't sit there as the tables are for walk ins only. I asked again why I simply couldn't be seated at the table assigned to me via the booking since the "reservations" side of the restaurant was near empty. They asked some more questions but finally seated me after a bit of debate. Not very hospitable or accommodating and could have easily been avoided since the restaurant wasn't even busy at all sans the happy hour crowd.

Chefs Stupak and Olvera have truly elevated Mexican fare. Black quinoa and pea salad may sound boring, but not with that just spicy enough vinaigrette. Same goes with the king salmon/gooseberries. The octopus(tacos) was perfectly cooked, however, not seasoned well. I was dying for salt - a surprise faux pas. It's worth going to Empellon just for the avocado dessert - incredibly flavorful and artistic as well(looks EXACTLY like a real 1/2 avocado). I love Empellon(esp West Village) - My only complaint is the Madison Ave/53rd location. Even while seated upstairs, one cannot escape the Mid Town sterility. The food is too creative, earthy and organic for this neighborhood.

The cucumber margarita was refreshing and a nice twist on an old standard. Guacamole with several sauces was outstanding, as were the short ribs! Tequila ice cream in meringue log is not to be missed. Decor and service excellent too. Will return when in town again.

Birthday dinner before Springsteen on Broadway. Great cocktail menu and service. Tortillas as good as I've had anywhere. Salsas were very tasty. The avocado dessert was mindbending! I'd go again for sure.

Our reservation was on a Saturday night and the restaurant could not sit our large party together, even though the restaurant was not full at all. There was not much ambiance and no bar scene. The drinks and food were mediocre; the guacamole is the only thing I would recommend. The interpretation of gnocchi was not good nor was the tamale. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Had a great dinner at Empellon. We had a really nice table upstairs which was pretty quiet so it was easy to have a conversation.

Service: The service was great - the staff was very friendly and attentive and offered up great food suggestions. I had questions on how a few of the food items were prepared and our server was very knowledgeable.

Food: I would definitely recommend the guacamole/salsa appetizer - perfect to share and start the meal. The bacon taco and cabbage salad were also great. Definitely save room for dessert - they are all so creative and unique (and gorgeous to look at!). We had the ice cream taco and 'avocado' and were very happy with both!
