Great service, and authentic and tasty food while being innovative.
This is a "trendyish" over priced, loud restaurant with stingy portions.
Phenomenal as usual. Do yourself a favor and GO! The food is amazing and each bite full of rich and fresh flavors.
Great food and drink and wonderful service! We loved everything we ate, and our server was incredibly helpful in guiding us toward some house specialties and options for what would be good to share. She also let us know what was the right amount of food - and she was spot-on. The margaritas were amazing - particularly the apricot and the saffron - and the guacamole with seven sauces was spectacular. We loved the pastrami tacos and the sea bream. And then we were set to ask for the check and leave, when our server suggested the avocado dessert. She said we had to and she was right. It was amazing!
We had a wonderful dinner. Thanks!
Amazing food. Not cheap but worth the price. Service is good and place is not overrun so overall a really good option.
Lovely restaurant. The food was delicious, with creative combinations of flavors and options from mild to spicy. The servers found the perfect balance of casual and professional, with deep knowledge of the offerings, including ingredients and preparation. Not once did they interrupt our conversation, yet they were always there when we needed them. We were traveling in NYC and meeting old friends. I will definitely try to come back!
Very very good crab nacho and duck tamal. Service on the spot. Adriano my server is the best.
Really delicious creative food. Too bad they took the Lobster appetizer off the menu. There are still a lot of great choices.
Friendly and accomodating staff.
Knowledgeable sommelier... had 2015 Mexican wine which i would have never ordered unless i trusted the sommelier ; it was exactly as described and enjoyed it very much.
Excellent quality, ambiance is very nice, service is excellent, various options for cuisine, innovative cocktails.
It’s too expensive for what they are really offering
only the guacamole and the crab nachos were good, the rest was below average
A top quality experience, as always. Hostess at door helped us get seated quickly even though we arrived more than 30 minutes early. Our server was well dressed, courteous and knowledgeable about the dishes. But, ultimately, one goes to eat, no? The food was superb: seafood nachos (with sea urchin!), king salmon, pastrami tacos (to die for!!!), fish tempura tacos (light & great lime salsa), squash blossom capellini (seasonal), and the AMAZING (as always) “avocado”, and corn ice cream taco, for dessert. Drinks are a well curated selection of tequilas and mezcals, although beer and wine are certainly available and good value. Try the mezcal margarita.
Definitely a gathering spot for the after work Millennial crowd, who filled the restaurant and bar area when we entered for our 7 pm reservation. Very loud and had to speak in raised voice. Thankfully we were seated upstairs, where the noise level was manageable. Receptionist and wait staff were all very friendly, respectful and knowledgeable about the menu, even going into more detail to answer our questions about ingredients, etc. Service was easy and not rushed. The guacamole with the seven sauces was outstanding, as were the tacos (pastrami with mustard seed salsa, and the fish tempura). Only comment is that the tacos came out too soon because we wanted more time to enjoy our appetizer, and our drinks arrived after our appetizer and entres were served. All in all, a pleasant, lively evening, with delicious food.
Expectations were high. Food was underwhelming. Salt used to compensate for a lack of flavor. It wasn’t awful, but it didn’t live up to the hype or the cost. A very creative menu with unusual options. It’s worth a night out if you’re curious about the pastrami tacos, but the tortillas are not of particular quality.
Service was rushed and we were seated in a remote upstairs section away from the lively Friday night crowd ...it seems like we were profiled and didn’t make the cut for the pretty people section. Not a great experience, but have loved other empellón locations in years past.
Very different for a Mexican restaurant.
Great choices on the menu.
Knowledgeable wait staff.
Will definitely go back for the guacamole dish.
Incredible. Best pork ever
This was our third visit to Empellon and won't be our last. The bar scene downstairs makes it rather noisy for our taste but the food is superb and the service is attentive while not intrusive. I shared the "pork chop" with my friend. It was two pork chops, not one, and it reminded me of what pork chops used to taste like before pork become "the other white meat." It was moist, flavorful and perfectly cooked.
Those were the days.
Loved our server!
It is a high quality contemporary restaurant with an unbeatable cabbage salad with Fava beans that is healthy and delicious.
It’s all around a lovely spot for lunch in midtown east!
I can't believe I dropped $30 for a plate of nachos, but the dish was delectable and memorable, so there are no regrets. Our server was also great, patiently and enthusiastically explaining the cocktail and food menu.
The food was fantastic and service impeccable! The ambiance was lovely and not too loud. I can't wait to go there again.
The food was very disappointing. The service was fantastic, but sadly the food did not match. It was presented in very interesting ways but lacked in taste.
Excellent service and exquisite food!!!😍😍😍
This place cares about flavor. From the arbol chile salsa to the thick cut bacon tacos to the tequila barrel ice cream, everything was complex and delicious!
Interesting and fun take on Mexican! The Mother of Dragons margarita was amazing! Loved the choices of salsas and the tacos were unlike any o had tasted before!
Food was very good but our waiter sort of forgot about us after we ordered drinks! I also prefer the menu at the West Village location.
Guac and salsas were delicious.
Amazing waitress, Natalie. We had a person with a soy allergy. It’s very difficult to eat out at many restaurants. Natalie made certain every item was soy free, and even went downstairs to read labels. The food was excellent, some unusual items, like lettuce with verde mouseline, and steak tartare fundido . Great experience!
It was great! We got the corn salad, guacamole, and brusslesprouts and they were to die for.
Great, truly inventive Mexican food; service is excellent but grab a table because bar scene is very thick and loud
Appetizers are very good. The service is very friendly.
The server went above a beyond to run around the corner to return our credit card that we forgot
The servers do a little more than just bring the food. The staff was polite and knowledgeable about the menu.
We had a superb lunch here last week....marred only by a very loud young woman at a nearby table, working in finance, whose conversation we heard every word of. Not the fault of the restaurant, but nearly ruined our lunch. The food and service excellent...we loved every bite....but the surfaces in the restaurant are hard edge....which made the grating voice of our 'table neighbour' even worse.
We came for a late lunch...around 2.15 pm....and most of the restaurant had emptied out after lunch service....so perhaps that was why this particular woman sounded even louder....I don't know what the restaurant can do about this, as probably it is the 'new normal'....but thought I should mention it.
We shall return however....the food was out of this world.
This was my second time at Empellon. The first time was great and this time didn't disappoint either. Great food and cocktails.
Empellon Midtown is still killing it, going strong with accessible yet adventurous food and thoughtful service and warm vibes. One of the best new restaurants in NYC the last 5 years.
Excellent food! Spicy level is just perfect but a little bit salty. Desert is really good, the watermelon sorbet with lemon out layer is really delicious.
Our waitress was nice but rarely came around. The wait time for the food was ridiculously long considering what we ordered. Overall I felt the meal was nothing special.
girlfriend and i had a very nice date here during restaurant week. octopus tacos were amazing
