Too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. The wagyu beef was not cooked at all.
Service was excellent, the food delicious! Never had Mexican cuisine like this
Great food, great atmosphere even on a Monday. The guacamole appetizer is awesome. Our 3rd visit there, and I will come back!
Little too upscale fo Mexican food. Definitely out of the norm .... typical NY
The food was underwhelming and overpriced--the spices and flavor just were not very good in the entrees we had (tacos and short rib confit). Also felt the time to deliver the main entree to the table was excessive--1 hour+ from the time of order. We ate early also to catch a show--the restaurant wasn't even half full when we were seated so it's not like the kitchen was overloaded. Overall, we were very disappointed. The one bright light was our server--she was friendly, informative, very professional and conscientious.
Great food and service
Nice vibe and decor
The kitchen closed very early and not flexible about a solution. Food is very good but they should be more welcoming to the dinner crowd the staff is a lunch crew that wants to get out of there early and it feels like it.
Booked at Open Table late in the day for early 6:30 dinner for two. Asked for upstairs. Was brought to crappy table in the back by wait station. Asked for the open table at the railing —was told it was for four. Had a lovely dinner; service was good. As we were leaving, said open table had two white men seated there.
Not going back.
Food was decent but just way too expensive for the value
Ice cream sandwich was highlight of meal. Skip the shishito peppers and the ice cream taco.
Fantastic food but very pricey for the very small portions served.
Food is very adventurous - but it worked! Will go back again.
Overall : Very good food, good ambiance and reasonable prices considering midtown location. Menu is Mexican based but not typical Mexican. Guacamole with 7 salsas is a great “pre-appetizer” starter that can be continued through the meal. Appetizers in general are good (duck tamale is the standout). Among the Entrees, Short- rib is very good. Entrees mostly seem to be sized for two people - it would be helpful to have them sized for one person ( may be at 60-65% the cost of the standard Entree). Desserts are innovative and excellent in general (Avocado dessert is the standout).
Consistently excellent ‘upscale’ Mexican.
Very accommodating to special dietary requests.
Great ambience-especially for a midtown restaurant.
That’s why we keep going back again and again!
The ambiance was so lovely. The food was truly delicious, especially the crab nachos! Perfect for date night or just dinner with friends.
My daughter and I had a great experience at Empellon Midtown. Service was friendly and prompt with a coordinated team approach. The homemade guacamole was outstanding with 7 different salsas to try. Margaritas were yummy with smoked salt on the glass. We had tacos — chanterelle and fish — and both were very good. It is Midtown, so the menu is pricey, but it was a great dining experience and I would go back!
Excellent on all levels .Innovative food, superior service very attentive staff. Open kitchen concept ..cool to watch the chef and his staff prepare and plate food .A must for foodies
Spectacular short rib confit
Spectacular crab nachos
So so drinks
Beautiful open kitchen
The halibut was not good. Short ribs my partner got were delish, however.
Loved the Guacamole appetizer and the corned beef taco.
Hostess-- knew me. I've only been there 3 times. Great service.
Excellent day time hostess; great food and service
Excellent service, great food, vibrant atmosphere. Desserts were tremendous. Best meal I’ve had in a while. Many thanks to the team!
I love the food here, though it’s really overpriced. Our waitress was great, informative, and not too fussy.
Went for our anniversary for the second year in a row... They took very good care of us!
Incredible experience we loved the 7 salsas presentation! The smoked black cod was equally cool and delicious! We loved the tacos and Margaritas I had the pineapple and my wife had the cucumber. Very fun pre show date!
Great space. Great service. Strange menu. Had lamb chops.
Disappointed on the execution of the food. The meat in the tacos were dry and the tamale tasted muddled and was not good.
Not worth the price, plus my friend was trying to order more than one order of tacos (because the portions are small), and the waiter made a comment about it being too much. We left hungry.
Great 3-course lunch special. As usual, the desserts are worth the price of admission. The cabbage salad was also a super-suprise. Never would have ordered it, but Gabriel convinced us, and rightly so.
Food was overpriced and the quality was not great. Short rib was chewy, tacos were dry, and charged extra for chips. We had our apps for about 15 minutes before we even got our drinks
Excellent food, service, ambiance. Highly recommend! We will return.
My go to midtown lunch!
Delicious and great service!
Great experience. Unique mex type of dining. Chic atmosphere.
Waiters where very upright and the food was very expensive. We are not regular people from midtown and they immediately noticed and were rushing us. As I didn’t order a cocktail (I cannot drink alcohol) no one refilled my glass of water. I ordered a $39 main dish, so I didn’t deserve being treated as a cheap costumer. The lamb chops were delicious though, but the crab nachos were completely overpriced and pointless.
Excellent . Innovative midtown restaurant. Nice staff
Fabulous food, fabulous server. The chopped salad, queso w peppers, and fish taco were great and that banana dessert is amazing.
This was my fourth time to Empellon Midtown with my husband and the entire experience from the food to the drinks to the staff was exemplary. The smoked black cod may be my favorite dish of all time and the halibut and the skirt steak were out of this world. I've said this before in various reviews but with so many restaurants in NYC -- I rarely if ever go back to the same place twice let alone four times but Empellon is worth it. Gents, the name of our table captain, has to be one of the nicest most elegant people ever and he and his wait staff team just made the experience even better. We took some good friends with us this time and they too that Empellon is a place that they need to visit again.
The food was amazing.
Too noisy for middle age clients
Food extremely below expectations
