The food was bland and uninspired. The restaurant was almost empty, now I know why.
The ambiance at Emmaline is fantastic and the staff is friendly. I have always had great meals here with friends and family. Be prepared with a few bucks to tip the valet drivers. Valet parking itself is free and this allows them to fit more vehicles in their limited parking space.
My favorites here are the Breakfast Pizza and the Lobster Benedict. I usually come for Brunch if the food didn’t give it away. This is a great place to get boozy with your friends and have a classy good time.
This last time I ate there, my group ran into a few issues with our meals, but I’ll tell you what, we were treated right. No one tried to hide anything, the waitstaff were honest, the manager spoke to us, and everything was made right. No one is perfect and it is how an establishment deals with adversity that speaks loudly to me about their customer service values.
I’ll be back to Emmaline and I will suggest the restaurant to everyone I know. If you’re reading this review, take my advice and book. Don’t forget to bring a few bucks for the valets!
Brunch was delightful and everyone enjoyed it- esp guest from California
The entire brunch experience was delightful, our server Holly was great, her presentation and delivery were crisp, pleasant and professional. One of the better dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. We will be back often.
Emmaline is a gorgeous restaurant nestled in trendy Montrose. The food is Italian/French-inspired Americana and well-executed. My partner and I were celebrating our third Valentines together, and looking forward to a relaxing evening where we could revel in each other's company. We are doing long-distance right now while I'm in grad school and before she starts med school. We haven't had a chance to indulge in great food in maybe close to a year even though we are big foodies. The service and food was excellent throughout the evening, even after a small snafu with the timing between an appetizer and entrees. Our only criticism was the nonstop bustling around us during our meal. We also did not love how the restaurant was very obviously shutting down (dishes clanging, floors being cleaned, etc) while we were finishing our meal. I work in the food business, so I get wanting to get out of the restaurant, but I would recommend to the restaurant that they anticipate late diners (especially when they have late reservations) and have them seated in a secluded area to be shielded from the main area clean up while they enjoy their dinner. My partner and I felt like an imposition for nearly half of our meal and rushed dessert because we felt so conspicuous.
Entrees were really terrible and we were overall disappointed but especially at this price point. We ate at this restaurant about a year ago and enjoyed it; this experience was the opposite.
From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. We had the burrata salad, oysters, and white fish crudo. The oysters were incredibly good, perhaps the best ones I have ever eaten in the south. The crudo was delicious, had jalapeños, pineapple, etc. light yet full of flavour. The burrata was fantastic, we have become used to american burrata, this one was fresh, if only had been a bit more liquid it would have been perfect, still good nonetheless. We had two drinks as well, an old fashioned and a mule. Both drinks were exquisite. To finish it off we had the funghi agnolotti and the special of the day the cazuela. The seafood cazuela had mussels, clams, and white fish. It was really good. I had to ask for bread so i could have more of the broth. Really good. The agnolotti was surprising, I am not a fan of ordering italian food, im used to make my own fresh pasta from gnocchi, to bucatini and tagliatelle, this one was pretty good. Definitely a treat to have. All in all was good. To finish it, the manager came by and asked us about the meal and then about desert. At this point we had had more than enough, but the manager decided to treat us with their panacota. The panacota was the best one I have ever eaten so far, I thought Michaels in Miami was the best, I was so wrong! We are coming back for brunch.
This place is definitely not in the affordable places here in Houston. Like buying a Toyota Corolla and expecting Mercedes quality. You pay for what you get for. One of our favorites.
Best Valentine's day dinner I've ever had, and I've had many. The food, the service, the ambiance all were superb. Even the valet parking was prompt and efficient. Great job all around.
I really like this restaurant but our Valentine’s Day experience was regrettable. They crammed way too many tables into the place and you basically shared a table with the couples sitting to either side of you. The main course was not great. We had the linguini. And, just to solidify the bad experience, because the room was overcrowded. It was hard to move around in the place and someone ended up elbowing me in the back of the head on my way back from the restroom. Then I paid $218 for our two meals and felt like I was robbed. Might come back to this restaurant on a normal night but never again on Valentine’s Day.
Very friendly service, steak was juicy, extremely tender and tasty, fontina was delectable, desert yummy
Food and service was great! Wonderful place for Valentine’s dinner.
Fantastic service and food! Sophisticated ambience.
Emmaline over time became such an alluring sight going to and fro on W Dallas that wife & I vowed to pay a visit next chance and this we did on Valentines Day Lunch. Once seated in the sun room we wondered if the food could possibly match the interesting and deft aesthetics everywhere we looked. That question was answered when our adroit server placed in front of us calamari fritti that was simply surpassing. Pan seared scallops along with lamb papperadelle followed and all we could do was nod knowingly that a truly superb dining experience had taken place. Now in our rotation of favorites!
This was our first dining experience at Emmaline. We booked his for our Valentine’s Day dinner.
We ordered the mussels and asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with a poached egg and it was great.
For dinner we ordered lamb chops and veal chop. This is where things went bad. The lamb chops were good but the veal was down right awful.
You win some, you lose some when trying a new restaurant and with this choice we lost.
Hostess was welcoming. Server was nice. Cocktails were spot on. Placed main dish order and waited 90 minutes. Server apologized throughout the 90 minutes as we kept waiting. Finally, our five plates arrived. Once again, my meal, the veal chop, was excessively salted, and I ate it so that I wouldn’t have to wait for another hour-plus for a second one.
Unfortunately, Emmaline has gotten my dish wrong three other times. I’m simply not returning.
I have eaten here before, and it was always great, and the ambience is terrific- so I'm hoping this was just an aberration. Our server did not bring our wine order for over 15 minutes, and the restaurant was not crowded. We had to ask twice. When it arrived, it was wrong. The server who brought our pepper oddly leaned over the entire table to grind the salt- she was annoyed when I asked her to just come to our sides to do the honors. My pasta dish was a mess- the pasta stuck together, and was clumpy. The server did not bring our bill in a timely manner, even though we were clear about when we needed to leave. I'm hoping it was an off night, because I really love this place and have enjoyed it in the past.
Emmaline has excellent ambiance and very good service. The food was good although we ordered simple items, calamari, pasta and hamburger. The top end of the menu looked good, but we saved that for another day.
Met a friend here for lunch. Oh my, what a lovely place. Even on a dreary, overcast day one could see what a great place this could be for a spring afternoon gathering. The service was impeccable and the food was appealing and plentiful. We met for a quick lunch, but agreed that we’d return to spend more time.
Our server Matt was engaging and provided great service. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very comfortable.
Excellent venue for special occasions. Sunday brunch is the best!
Over the top fabulous! First of all we can’t wait to return! Everything about this place is amazing! Let’s start with our attentive and very friendly waiter, Greg. He took great care of us and had some wonderful suggestions. We started with the tuna tar tar! Wow! All the flavors paired perfectly together. Hubby ordered the English pea soup and I must have the recipe. Who knew? I need that soup. It was creamy with perfect hints of tarragon. We ordered the sea bass and Branzino. Both were very tasty and the serving size is ample. Happy anniversary to us. We were given the chocolate torte and I’m here to tell you every single bite of this meal was well worth the calories! Excellent service and food came out in a timely manner. We can’t wait to return. I’m thinking scallops!
You can always and I mean always count and exquisite food and excellent service.
A wonderful pre- theatre dinner.
We were unable to make International Wine and Food Society and Chaine des Rotisseurs events here so we decided to try it for pre-opera. They originally seated us at the worst table in the restaurant beside the server station, and when I complained, they immediately relocated us. We had the deviled eggs, which were creamy and tasty and the crudo of red snapper - very nice and citrusy. My wife had the whole wheat pasta, which was only OK and I had the roast chicken which was very tasty and extremely tender from being roasted for several hours at low heat. The atmosphere reminds me of one of our favorite restaurants in London.
The food was absolutely delicious and innovative. The waitress was in training and still a little rough. If we had known how loud and noisy it was inside, we would have asked for outside seating. But it’s a very nice local bistro and we will definitely come back.
Beautiful atmosphere, will definitely be back and would love to try brunch!
Our new go to place, we dined on the upstairs patio. Service was impeccable, dishes well seasoned & prepared to order, beautifully presented. My husband had his favorite appetizer, the mussels in coconut broth with roasted tomatoes and a crispy toast as well as the house pizza. I enjoyed the yellow tail appetizer and the lamb chops cooked rare with black lentils. Great whiskey collection. Highly recommend Emmaline’s.
Slow and inattentive service. Food presentation and taste was just ok, nothing special
The venue and the food are both great. The wine list is a little light.
First time for us to visit and what a great experience! We arrived 1 hour early and they were able to sit us right away without any fuss, mind you, it was only 6:15 :) The attention from the staff was super friendly and the recommendations made were excellent. We'll defeinetly be returning and telling people we know about Emmaline.
Cute restaurant, great service!
Excellent food and service.
Amazing ambiance, food and service! Highly recommend!
The food was very good, the atmosphere was great ! The only thing I really didn’t care about was the wait time for a table. I had reservations for 8:30pm and we were not seated until 9pm. I can understand 5 to 10 minutes but not 30 minutes someone had reservations.
We had an 8p reservation, waited about 25 minutes, not great. Appetizers were good- beets & Caesar, the fish dishes were just ok - salmon had way too much sauce on it, very heavy... the branzino was ok, not great.
Great food and service! Loved the ambiance!
We immediately had a mishap with the Valet guys so the evening started off a little off. Inside we were promptly greeted but it seemed to take a little longer than it should have to seat us given there were many empty tables. It appeared that the nearest server, who might have taken us into their section, did not want an additional table. Once seated, it took a little while to be helped but once we were out server was very nice. He had a couple other tables that might not have been as chill and it seemed to frazzle him but it wasn’t but a huge issue. I had the roasted chicken, which was very dry, and my date had the sea bass, which was very bland, so we left not overly impressed with the food. The space is fantastic and we really wanted to like it but left underwhelmed overall.
Everything we ordered was delicious including the Snapper Crudo, truffled deviled eggs, lamb ragu pasta and Sea Bass in broth (best dish of the night). Casual but stylish dress. Noise level minimal, but it was a Wed night. Really, the only things that were just great and not amazing, were the desserts. But hey, I don't need all the sugar right? Highly recommend. Will be going back again, no doubt.
Liked the ambiance and food. Service was rather underwhelming. Wait staff were not attentive and were somewhat slow. Not indicative of the ‘southern hospitality’ we are so proud of.
