EMBER features a cocktail program focusing on classics done in creative and modern style.
The wine list features about 100 wines, 15 of which are available by the glass, including diverse selections from Spain, New Zealand, Austria, Napa Valley and more.
The space is designed by Mark Diaz from MAD Design, the 3,200-square-foot indoor/outdoor space will be inspired by the streamline moderne-style of art deco architecture and furniture.
It pains me to write this because normally we love Kilgore’s restaurants and have enjoyed Amber before. The tables were so close together we were part of the conversation around us literally...Noise level over the top. The burger huge disappointment too manny flavors .. too many ingredients.. oil fries cooked in detracted from taste and mouth feel ..
the pluses.. The fried chicken continues to rock as well as beignets . Worth going to for sure but will return when weather is cooler and sit outside. Our table mates had the plantain cream pie and said it was outstanding.. it looked so too.
We went for the Miami spice deal and were thoroughly impressed. The portions were large and we were able to share each course. The waiter was knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction. The place is beautiful and in an upscale shopping arcade in the design District. There are seats at the counter that watch the kitchen. Something we would definitely try next time.
The food was excellent but unfortunately the service was extremely poor. Sat around for nearly 20 minutes before anyone noticed we had been sat at a table. The water server was the only one attentive during the entire meal. In order to get the waiter's attention, we had to raise our arms and wave. They all seemed rushed and frazzled and unattentive to their tables as they walked by. The wine pairings were forgotten and at the end only 2 wines were brought instead of the 3, ALL with the wrong courses. The space is entirely too small and claustrophobic, tables feel like they are on top of each other, making it difficult for people to squeeze in or out of the chair/booth. The place is too noisy to the point that you can't hear yourself speak to other members of your party. Our table was not ready on time and had to stand around the bar because there were no seats available. And by standing near the bar, we just blocked more people from getting to and from their tables. You need to work on improving your service as three months is not enough training. Maybe i will return after a year, if you are still open. Good luck.
Second time here—great 70s/80s retro vibe with soundtrack to match! Food even better this time—porterhouse and fried chicken were standouts, but everything we ordered exceeded our expectations. Wasn’t hard to force ourselves to did into the banana cream pie to top it all off. We’ll be back!
The food and service was great. I would def go back to try more items on the menu. The only downside is the space is rather small so you are close to your neighbors. On a Saturday night it was loud plus there was loud music so it was hard to hear the person who was sitting across the table from you.
The food was amazing but we had a long wait despite having reservations. That’s my only complaint.
The food and the wait staff were great but we were not seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time even though we arrived early. Was a negative beginning but once seated every thing was top notch.
Prior to our dinner, I’d made a note that I was going to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Service was top notch, just like the food. They were incredibly kind! Awesome experience.
Great restaurant, tables were too close together.
THREE OF US DINED AT EMBER ON SEPTEMBER 13TH. WE WENT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE MIAMI SPICE MENU AND WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. IT WAS FABULOUS. MARCELO WAS OUR SERVER AND HE WAS EXCELLENT AS WERE HIS NUMEROUS COLLEAGUES. THE SERVICE LEVEL IS THE BEST I'VE EXPERIENCED IN MIAMI IN A LONG TIME.
WE CHOSE THE BEEF TARTARE, THE SHRIMP AND GRITS, AND THE JARDIN CESAR SALAD AS STARTERS. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE SALAD WAS THE WINNER !
TWO OF US CHOSE THE LAMB OSSO BUCCO FOR THE MAIN, AND THE OTHER MAIN WAS THE SALMON. ALL OF THE DISHES WERE EXCELLENT.
FOR DESSERT, MARCELO SUGGESTED WE TAKE ONE OF EACH OF THE 3 AVAILABLE DESSERTS - PEACH COBBLER, COCONUT CAKE, AND CHOCOLATE SOMETHING-DELICIOUS. WE SHOULD HAVE ORDERED 3 OF THE CHOCOLATE - YUMMMMMMM.
WE ALSO TOOK THE WINE OPTION @ $25.00 - A SAUVIGNON BLANC WITH THE STARTER, A BORDEAUX WITH THE MAIN, AND A SWEETER STYLE DESSERT WINE. IT WAS A GOOD DECISION, AND WE WOULD DO THAT AGAIN.
WHEN WE GO BACK (WE WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK!), WE MAY CHOOSE TO EAT AT THE BAR BECAUSE THAT LOOKED GREAT - OR WE MAY CHOOSE TO EAT IN THE KITCHEN, CLOSE TO THE ACTION. IF YOU CHOOSE THOSE SEATS, WEAR SOMETHING LIGHT - IT GETS VERY HOT THERE.
pour service food was not well cooked the famous fried breaded chicken was not cooked inside I return it to the kitchen
Food, service and atmosphere, were exceptional. Brad Kilgore knows what he's doing and doing it very well.
Not bad not good
Great restaurant, food, and service. We really enjoyed our experience. The only downside was that the music was too loud and everyone was yelling their conversations throughout the restaurant.
Amazing food. Service was impeccable. Exactly what I was expecting.
Amazing restaurant, awesome service at the bar. We had the Tennessee fried chicken and it was amazing very similar to Tennessee.
Sit at the chefs table! What an unbelievable experience. Kilgore and his team are a class act
This was our first time at Ember and we used their Miami Spice dinner menu to give us a nice overview of their food. Shrimp and grits were creamy and had a nice bacon flavor that gave it additional dimension. The Caesar salad was a VERY new take on this concept, with green beans (I think haricot vert, based on the length and thinness of the bean) and snow peas as the main body of the salad. Unexpected but extremely tasty. The mains we shared were Lamb Osso Buco that was OH SO DELICIOUS. The lamb fell off the bone while maintaining a nice level of pink inside. Ember's version has a dark sauce and it was magnificent. The Fried Chicken with dry rub was so tasty but not greasy. We also had mash potatoes that has a touch of bacon flavor and spinach paneer with crispy garlic nuggets. The paneer was nice and tangy, rich but melted in your mouth. Finally, Ember's take on Chess Pie blew my partner's South Carolina tastebuds away. And finally, the rice krispie treat a la mode was made a bit more fun with some long grain and/or black rice included in the mix on a bed of dulce de leche. Try all this with the add-on wine pairings, they were perfect!
Food was excellent and so was the service by the entire staff. Fried chicken and the Ossobuco a must.
Really friendly staff. The restaurant is too loud to have a normal conversation.
From the ambiance, decor, service, food and music I would definitely go back.
The fried chicken was pretty dry unfortunately. They didn’t have the full Miami Spice menu so that was a bummer.
Excellent service! Everything we had from the Miami Spice
Menu cooked to perfection 👌🏼 we had the fried chicken and salmon and for desserts - rice krispies and the chess pies with fried banana 🍌 were sooo good!! Highly recommended!!
Our Engagement dinner, it was amazing.
Revisited comfort food. We had the french fries" Spring Poutine" that is Green Garlic, Boursin Emulsion, Truffle Vinaigrette wow ! Also the "Nola Beignet" (Pimento Cheese, Harissa Hot Sauce, Onion Ash)
Then Fire-Roasted Lasagna (Maitake Bolognese, Gruyere Fondue, Fresh Basil)
Wine was an excellent Bordeaux blend selected by the Chef.
We spend a great evening at Ember.
Light up your palate with the chefs offering a burning hunk of Ember love. Modernly designed with earthly decor blending wood, stone, and metal. The large wood art are conversation pieces. The table are close to each other inviting conversations and browsing. The wicker chairs are comfortably wide and maybe a little difficult to move when someone needs to leave from the bench seating. There is also table, bar and kitchen view seating.
Appetizers start in the teens and the entrees average $50.
The Caesar salad is unique. The South would have won the Civil War had they served the North shrimp and grits like these, The spices on the salmon and potatoes were savory. Don’t leave without having dessert.
Cute, stylish new spot in Design District. The fried chicken with the (overly sweet -- c'mon this is South Fl with a large Caribbean population, we know) pikliz was underseasoned and the breading was not cohesive. Would not recommend. The shrimp and grits were so-so. The shrimp on the small size. Grits were nicely seasoned and creamy. The lamb was blah.
The beef tartar was really good, however. The service is great. The space was a bit small but hip vibe. The rice krispy dessert and chocolate tarte (that tasted more like a pecan pie filling without any real decadant chocolate punch and umph) was underwelming.
I give this restaurant a solid C+. Not saying I would never return, but with so much competition in S Fl and other great spots in Miami (new and old), Ember won't be on my "must return" list.
Nice welcoming and good attentive service... nice decor but too much notice and food mediocre. Enjoyed a Miami spice offering and a la carte good as well. Salmon too dry and stroganoff was actually 4 little slice of steak served with a side of creamy sticky pasta... not what expected.
Horrible food, prime rib was a cheap, tough cut and over cooked. Everything else mediocre at best
Brad Kilgore DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!! We preordered the ribs and I'd be back every Tuesday if I could. Amazing meal!
From the moment we walked in it was great manager at the door our server was amazing Busser where on point I can tell you I will definitely be coming back. And I would like to take the time say thank you to everyone for making it such a great dining experience . Also to the chef keep up the great work .
Everything was spectacular.
Very nice and the maitre’d was so sweet
Very nice place. Service was god overall. However, the food wasn’t out of this world. I feel that the menu was limited and overpriced.
Exciting decor but there’s a design problem. The wicker chairs are far too low for the table height. If you are sitting on a banquette then your guest in the wicker chair is several inches lower than you. You’re not eating at the same height. My guest had to ask for another cushion. With some difficulty the waiter found a cushion. The owners need to look at sound attenuation. You have to shout to converse. These issues aside, the food was great. The grits with prawn exceptional. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed the food and cocktails ! However we sat at a table that was way too close to the other tables !
Great food but the noise level was extremely high and almost unable to hear the persons at the table.
Cute place, service below my standards.
Food ok, too loud.
Front desk nonchalant attitude.
Birthday dinner, it was a good experience
