We could not have expected better! Service and food were excellent. The setting is lovely. The music was great & did not intrude on our conversation. Constantine, the manager, and John our server were great. A great dining experience.
We had a very satisfying meal in very pleasant surroundings.
Good place for groups. Plenty of space and good food.
Excellent service, great food.
Excellent food. Nice-sized portions. Very pleasant ambiance & service.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
Business lunch, but looking for a bright setting encouraging discussion. Great food, people, and environment, as usual!
They took a while to bring us our drinks and had a little mix up all in the beginning but once that was fixed everything else was great.
The food is consistently delicious. We love Elysian Fields! Sometimes it can be a bit noisier than we would like, but the waiter obliged and lowered the volume of the music. We wish that there would NOT be loud (or any) music!
It was nice restaurant. Very cozy and friendly. However what I head, mussels were not fresh.
food is great as is the room..........you'll be happy you went
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend. Will come again!
Real Greek food, very very tasty! The service was great.
What a fantastic find! While visiting the area with our daughter who will be attending Columbia University in the fall we stumbled upon this great venue. The food is not only delicious, but visually appealing. While trying to figure out what to order we couldn't stop drooling over the dishes coming out of the kitchen. We enjoyed their daily special - a sandwich with unlimited mimosas for $18 - that was a treat! My daughter loved her salad topped with grilled chicken while my husband dove in to a whole grilled fish, branzino I think... the Greek fries were delicious too! We were so happy to hear they participate in the schools meal program as well! We expect to see a lot of action at Elysian Fields!
This place is a hidden gem of Morningside Heights. The Greek inspired menu is fantastic with a great selection. While my kids enjoyed the handhelds, my husband couldn't get enough of his whole grilled bronzino. I enjoyed their crispy calamari - I'm pretty sure my kids devoured most of it - and the soutzoukakya (I don't think I spelled it correctly), but the salmon sliders were.... YUMMY! Everything reminded us of our recent trip to Europe! Their Aperol Spritzer is dynamite - my husband loved their beer selection but stuck with a delicious Greek white - from Santorini I think. Dessert was a free for all - everyone enjoyed their selections and no one had the same thing!! All in all a win for us! Everyone was happy, everyone left full and we got leftovers!!
An extremely fun new restaurant in Morningside Heights. You can't go wrong with $5 drinks - they have a menu and their shared plates are dynamite - especially for someone like me who likes to pick!
The whole grilled fish is amazing - just like they serve it in Greece. They will debone for you too! The Moussaka Croquettes were to die for. The assortment of dips, speechless.
Seriously, if I could have asked for Greece to be in NYC it would be at Elysian Fields Cafe.
Fresh Bronzino from Greece right off the grill! It was absolutely perfect. The char on the skin, the flaky flavor of the tender fish covered in a lemon juice with olive oil. OMG I'm still drooling.
They had run out if
Raving about this place. The hand-held sandwiches are to die for! The lamb chops were tender and moist - full of flavor and so reminiscent of Greece that if you close your eyes you'll be there!! We love the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. Ask for George - he's the best!!
Ned to work on service. Very friendly but awkward, took a long time for food and plates not cleared unless we asked. Disorganized. Food was delicious though, and big portions!
Not ready for prime time.
2 months old, so maybe they need some practice. The Columbia U. neighborhood needs a great Greek restaurant. Hoped this could be it.
No lamb or fish (other than salmon) on the menu--we found it very odd and disappointing.
Uneven service. Appetizers arrived and, within 5 minutes, the host brought our main courses, waiting for us to move our appetizers aside to make room for them, even though we were far from finished. Had to ask twice for sharing plates. He should know better!
Might try it once more just in case these issues can be resolved, but so far, eh. Too bad!
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your time and feedback. I question what menu you mention in your review as the one served daily at Elysian Fields Cafe has a number of fish options including the grilled salmon you mentioned, a seafood kebab, a daily fish special, garides (shrimp), octopus, fried and grilled calamari, salmon tartare in addition to others. The lamb can be found in our mixed grille platter that serves various cuts of meat as well as the giaourtlou which is solely lamb.
This place is great! I stumbled upon it by accident walking up to Columbia with my niece who will soon be attending. Needless to say it was AMAZING! The food is all generous in portions. I had the mixed grille that was overflowing with different cuts of meat and those fries!! OMG - they "Greeked" them for me and I don't think I will ever be able to eat fries with ketchup again! Can't wait to visit her at school!
P.S. She was super excited that this place is part of the Columbia eateries. Not sure what that means but my sister is in trouble! I'm sure she will be spending lots of time there! LOL
On entering, we four, of the white-haired set, with mild to severe hearing problems, found the noise level not “energetic” but, rather, unbearable. (It was Thursday, Happy Hour, the last day of Columbia classes.) But the charming host, at our request and without missing a beat, graciously led us to a quiet, extremely pleasant, well-appointed room at the back, apparently reserved for large parties, somewhat set off from the main room. The food as well as the service from a charming trainee was excellent. We were left alone, occasionally asked by host and staff how we were doing, did we want music (No!), and, of course, did we want anything else. I would certainly return, but the back room would be the deal-maker, were the decibels up front as high as on my first visit.
Lovely, bright renovation and great food! Our group ordered platters, salads, and small plates, they were all tasty. Staff was very engaging, yet let the our group talk. It was a bit noisy, but probably due to almost all tables being filled. We're looking forward to visiting often.
Loved the atmosphere of this cute restaurant, and the wait staff were attentive and friendly. The food was good-especially the eggs benedict and the salads. Also, the restrooms were very clean and nice- which I appreciated.
Great food and service!
Went for brunch and was seated right away but didn’t get any water or service for a long time. 3 managers were walking around while 1 waiter and 1 buser rushed between 7 tables, all with no food. Eventually got our food that was edible but not flavorful, memorable, or worth the price. Oddly they did not have iced tea available for brunch. Will not be returning!
Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday brunch. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. Christoph greeted us and helped choose a perfect table for conversation with our friends. The attentive staff made sure our drinks were full and that we had everything we needed for a perfect visit. Great food, beautiful place, professional staff and reasonable prices are sure to make Elysian a success. Look forward to returning for dinner soon.
An incredible new addition to the Columbia / Upper West Side area! Reminiscent of a European cafe with a modern twist! The service is friendly and efficient and the food .... well you must stop by and try the food. The Shepard’s salad was citrusy and delightful on the tastebuds. The Gyro was full of flavor and brought back memories of dining in Greece. The night we were there, the owner who was there as well, very graciously had glasses of champagne sent to our table as we were celebrating a friends Birthday! We will be back!
Wonderful new restaurant on Amsterdam Ave between W. 119-120 Streets. Atmosphere upscale and pleasant. Food delicious. Service professional warm and knowledgeable. They set a welcoming experience that makes you want to return.
I love this place!!! It’s very nicely decorated, but most importantly food is delicious!!!I WILL BACK SOON with my friends!!!
We enjoyed this new restaurant in Amsterdam and 119th- casual Greek food. From the Greek salad to the chicken kabobs to the seafood. Delicious- the service was very good. Atmosphere was lovely, the restaurant is spacious. We already booked a birthday party in the private space downstairs.
What a great addition to the Morningside area! I was visiting my niece and she was raving about this new place. We were seated (with a reservation) immediately. The place was humming. Great music, beautifully decorated.
Our server was very sweet - he offered specials and some favorable wines. We decided on a couple of appetizers and a platter for two. The dips were absoultely delicious - exactly as I would have expected them to be had we been in Greece! Paired with the suggested bottle of white they were to die for! The spinach pie was rich and creamy - so good! We were stuffed but saved room for the generous meat platter which had various cuts of kebab and some kind of sausage that I can't say but did enjoy!
The oregano and feta fries left me drooling... my niece insisted on dessert which was some kind of baklava ice cream. It was amazing!! I am looking forward to many more visits... Can't wait!
Love this new restaurant. Casual Greek dining with an interesting menu!
