Birthday dinner. Quiet romantic and nice ambiance.
Fantastic meal. We had pork & shrimp spring rolls and their to die for brussel sprouts as appetizers. We split their amazing rib eye (so flavorful! ) and ratatouille. Our friend had salmon & pork dishes. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They now validate SJ parking. We dine here about 4 times a year and will keep coming back.
Drinks were great. The food was just ok. The lamb was good. The Wagyu carpaccio, Seafood trio and soft shell crab were just ok.
The wagyu was overpowered by the siracha. The trio and the crab were under seasoned and served warm vs hot.
Friendly family run place! Great food, great service and great value!!!
We started with the shrimp pork spring rolls--the crispy pork was a nice touch to the generous portion of four good sized rolls. I had the trio of oysters---tiny & tasty. Next came a traditional Salad Nicoise (seared ahi, egg, anchovy & green bean), with a lovely light dressing. (Note: Elyse web site photos are mouth -watering accurate!). Finally, the Ratatoille Pie, with yummy veggies and a flaky crust. We ended with a pot of French pressed coffee and tiramisu.
Out server was ever attentive.
There were cloth napkins, but no table clothes as pictured. Sadly, no bread basket was available. As there were no moules on their menu---all was forgiven!
Their full bar was extensive. However, their wine list was wanting fro a moderate price point. The first Cote Du Rhone we tasted was a no. We settled for a Malbec @ $36.
Wonderful cuisine and great service.
Good food, personable servers, energetic atmosphere!
Based on the food, service and ambiance of the restaurant, I would give it top ratings. Everything was as described on the menu, food was excellent. Service was friendly and trying to pleased. For a Saturday night, the place was hoping. The only drawback was location, in downtown San Jose. Maybe once the google campus goes in, downtown would have less empty storefronts and less homelessness.
Wonderful surprise while staying near airport for morning flight. The food is a combination of Vietnamese and French-AMAZING combination . The wine selection is also impressive !! The hospitality here is OFF THE CHARTS! It is clear that the family truly loves what they do and it shows in the food and service !
We loved Elyse. This was our first time but had mentioned our anniversary. We were met with champagne by one of the owners who directed us to a great table. When I mentioned that my grandparents were from France, the owner got her husband to visit our table as he is from France as well. Our server, Kim, knows the menu and the wine pairings very well and helped us choose. She gave us tastes for recommended wines so that we could choose something that we liked best. Additionally, if we did not like something that she recommended, she told us that she would take it off our tab. Fortunately, we loved what we ate. We look forward to returning!
I came upon this restaurant on open table, and thought “let’s try it out”.
The restaurant is very charming and reminded me of my fabulous memories of Paris!
The service was great and the meal was delicious!
My husband and I liked the restaurant so much, that we dined there twice in two weeks.
Everyone was so accommodating and friendly.
I highly recommend!
Great service, food and drinks. Excellent bartender who makes the best Old Fashions. Had the salmon, short ribs and rib eye and they were all very good with good portions. Also had the Brussel Sprouts salad which actually didn’t appear in the salad form but rather sautéed with great flavors and excellent taste. I wasn’t disappointed.
This place has amazing ambience, the staff is super friendly and the food is simple amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyway looking for some fine dining experience.
We will be coming back for more. Exciting flavors and a nice variety of choices. The bar is extensive and well stocked and the bartender was great and helpful making food suggestions. Great food
Tasty food, pretty good service, plan on 2-2.5 hours for dinner
Very delicious food and drinks and servers were attentive. Glad I chose it for our anniversary dinner.
We were happy the first couple of times we went to the restaurant. The manager was friendly and greeted us, however the last time we went the manager totally ignored us and our server was friendly enough, but the atmosphere, food and noise level were not up to par. The space is large and there is very little atmosphere. So much could be done to make it more intimate and cozy, but the acoustics were terrible and we couldn't have an conversation because the noise at the next table was so loud. The food was not good and my husband and I were very disappointed by the whole experience of dining t there.
Absolutely recommend! They have delicious food and cocktails, and a very pleasant ambiance. It's our favorite restaurant downtown San Jose.
Great option for groups/couples with some who like Asian food and others who like European food. Great option before a concert/comedy show as well.
We had a great meal here. The menu is a little limited but each dish we had was very good to great. They were out of the oysters as they were 2 weeks ago. The service was top notch as were the drinks. We will definitely come back again
Service was not very good this time. They failed to refill our water glasses, which is something that they should have noticed. The ratatouille pie was not very good. The sauce on top of the puff pastry made the pastry soggy. However, their short ribs, coq au vin, Brussels sprouts salad, and pho were very tasty. We'd return again and hope that service will improve.
Everyone in my party agreed that the food lacked flavor or any complexity. The appetizers took about 40 minutes to come out.
- salmon tartare: cape out room temperature and too sweet
- spring rolls: meat was too sweet and lettuce was soggy
- soft shell crab: was not hot or crispy
- seafood trio l: garlic noodles did not have any garlic taste. They were soggy and had a slight hint or parmesan. The pork and shrimp wontons tasted like nothing
- ratatouille: the tomato sauce tasted like it came from a can without being seasoned
The drinks were the only thing that was good
Excellent food at very reasonable prices in a nice ambiance
We loved the Brussels sprouts. I enjoyed the tender meat and the flavor of the sauce on the beef short ribs. My husband liked the lamb chops. The chocolate mousse dessert was fabulous!
Love this restaurant. Wonderful food, generous servings and wonderful people. Everyone from the owner to the wait staff to the bartender does everything to make your evening a great one. The food is innovative and beautifully prepared and presented. The salmon tartar and the lamb chops were two of the standouts.
Very good, creative food dishes. Good value and excellent service. Very broad, diverse menu -- sufficient coverage for all food tastes.
This was our 4th time eating here and we enjoy each time. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts. The spring rolls are yummy if a little pricey. All other prices are on point. Our entrees were ratatouille, lamb, tomato stuffed pork & rib eye. All were fabulous with the rib eye as the standout. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which is like a chocolate pot de creme, very good. Service was good. Quiet atmosphere. We will be back.
I real downtown San Jose find!!! Fabulous food and wonderful service!!!
This is a wonderful restaurant, been there three or four times now and it's been great each time.
Wonderful experience during dining month. Went with five girlfriends and each of us was able to choose from the great variety of prix fixe options we were given. They even accommodated my friend with celiac. The wine menu was well-appointed and our server selected an excellent pairing for those of us who didn't do the optional dining month pairings.
I was a little surprised at how early they closed for a Saturday night, but we were all from out-of-town and that may be standard for the area. Oh, and if bringing a group, be mindful they prefer a max of four credit cards used for the bill.
But would definitely fine here again!
Absolutely the worst service I have experienced in a long time. Food was less than ordinary. Just not a good experience
We went down town to take advantage of the Dine Out week. Prix Fix menu was nice but only saved $2 from regular menu so a little disappointing. Food was good. Appetizers of Mushroom tart and Meatballs very tasty. Main course of Salmon on Risotto different. Salmon good but this was not the Risotto I know. It was very creamy and tasted like it was mixed with mashed potatoes. Desserts were excellent. We had Tiramisu and Panna Cotta and both were very good. It's a cute little venue and we will go back
Very nice restaurant. Delicious food and great wine. Warm ambiance and the owners are super friendly and made us great recommendations. We will definitively go back there!
Wonderful find. Food is delicious, service outstanding, the whole evening was just lovely. Perfect date night experience.
My date and I each enjoyed a different prix fix dinner. Her's included mushrooms in puffed pastry, followed by salmon risotto and a chocolate creme brulee dessert. I had the brussels sprouts appetizer, followed by ribeye with mushroom sauce, then a tiramisu dessert. Everything, and I do mean everything was excellent. Elyse will be our new go-to restaurant in downtown San Jose!
We had a party of 7. We had a nice evening and enjoyed the meal.
Came here for San Jose Restaurant Week. We have not heard of the restaurant so we thought we would give the place a try. The apps we had were good. I had the soft shell crab with mango cilantro sauce and my other half had the Brussels sprouts. It was a good start!
For the entrees I had the Seafood Trio in bisque sauce. Overall, it was solid, but I think it can use a bit of tweaking...garlic noodles need to be more garlicky and the wonton should’ve been crispy to provide another texture element vs having the same soft texture as the noodles.
Solid 4 out of 5. I would comeback!
Élyse is always a fabulous meal and a great value. Highly competent kitchen and the front house staff are always accommodating and eager to please.
A nice strongly French influenced restaurant in downtown San Jose. Great staff, excellent eclectic wine list. Easily one of the top 3 places in the area.
My wife and I have dined at Élyse 4-5 times, and have never been disappointed. From the creative and tasty cocktails to their food, Élyse melds classic French with an Asian flair like no other restaurant in San José. Plus it is very convenient to City Lights, San José Stage, the Hammer, and 3Below Theaters, making it our go-to restaurant before attending any of those theaters.
The service is more professional and responsive than most in SJ, while still being relaxed and non-intrusive. And the owner is charming and friendly, and talks with all of the diners.
It is truly a gem in downtown San José!
Élyse Restaurant is rated 4.4 stars by 137 OpenTable diners.
