My wife and I have dined at Élyse 4-5 times, and have never been disappointed. From the creative and tasty cocktails to their food, Élyse melds classic French with an Asian flair like no other restaurant in San José. Plus it is very convenient to City Lights, San José Stage, the Hammer, and 3Below Theaters, making it our go-to restaurant before attending any of those theaters.
The service is more professional and responsive than most in SJ, while still being relaxed and non-intrusive. And the owner is charming and friendly, and talks with all of the diners.
It is truly a gem in downtown San José!
Elyse is a new take on French with a Vietnamese influence. We always have wonderful meals there!
Seafood bisque was noodles in smooth slightly spicy fish sauce with delicious shrimp wontons & slightly crusted salmon slice...very tasty. Other entree we shared was very tender/ fall off the bone short ribs in delicious savory sauce with peas & carrots.
Desert was silky smooth chocolate moose with crunchy cookie sticks...wonderful with perfectly brewed cappuccino cafes.
Absolutely, terrific service topped it off for our meal!
Elyse’ is gem that needs more accolades!
Not French not Vietnamese just below average American food
This is my go to for a lovely evening of great food, service and ambiance. Christoph, his wife and cousin the chef have made this a top flight restaurant. No advertising just word of mouth fills all the tables.
The food and drinks were great as was the service. We had our waitress checking on us regularly as well as the owner (I’m assuming that’s who he was) so we never had to wait long for anything. I also appreciated that we were able to have a semi-European experience in the sense that we weren’t rushed to try to turn the table over, even after we were done with our dessert they let us sit for a while before bringing the check around.
The menu is small, but I liked that; it’s so much better than having a massive menu and not being able to make up your mind about what to have. I’d highly recommend this place!
Great food. Really great food. You need to go here. Service was top notch. Drinks and wine list are excellent
Great service and great food. We will definitely be back.
All the dishes were extremely tasty, beautiful and the service was great.
My daughter is vegetarian, and she could find good options as well.
Just wish there were a bit more choices on the menu.
We will certainly be back!
Great food and taste, smaller portions and very expensive. Expect $125 for two.
The food was excellent. The service was above average, not over the top though-perhaps a little understaffed. The biggest downfall-which isn’t huge- is when I used the restroom, I noticed the coffee station wasn’t tidy. It wasn’t disgusting, just not what I would consider acceptable. They need to work out some kinks. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Just a note to the manager- we notice the little things.
We had a variety of appetizers and they were fabulous! Great service, extremely pleasant server. We will be back!!
The decor was very inviting. The waitress was sweet and accommodating. The food was EXCELLENT! The original cocktails were EXCELLENT! I would absolutely go back and not hesitate to recommend to everyone. The pear cocktail was my favorite, and the seafood with garlic noodles was delicious.
This was my second time and the food was just as delicious as the first. My friend is vegan and they did a great job at accommodating her diet restrictions. The service this time around was better than my first time but still not fantastic. I will definitely be back, the food is amazing.
The bartender is terribly slow, and the servers could pay attention a bit more, but the food more than makes up for it. Delicious!!
It seemed like the restaurant was severely understaffed. One of us had to actually get up and run behind a waiter to get his attention. Four adults - we paid $250+ for dinner. Dishes were not worth the cost. Service was definitely not.
Had previously attended a La Chaine des Rotisseurs event here and was transfixed by the quality array of offerings. This time brought friends prior to a San Jose Sharks playoffs game to share the experience. They came away wanting to bring their friends.
Came for a small company dinner, had some issues with the phone as I wanted to let them know ahead of time that we were running behind, but was able to make contact with them in the end & the service & food was excellent. They apologized for the phone issues & I will definitely continue to come back personally & for work.
What a gem! The food was OUTSTANDING. House cocktails were great. All 4 of the people in our party raved about their meals. I had the mushroom tartlet appetizer, which was SO flavorful and delicious. I shared it with others at the table because not everyone ordered an appetizer, but I would have been happy to have one all for myself! For my entree, I ordered the lamb chops, and they were some of the best I've ever had. The portion of meat was small, however, and I was wishing for more. The roasted brussels sprouts that they came with were amazing as well. My only minor complaint was that the bar couldn't make me an apple martini. I've been disappointed with this at several restaurants lately. Maybe it's not considered high brow enough. Shrug. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've been to in awhile. We will definitely be back.
My new favorite restaurant. Great food, service and ambiance. Cocktails and wine list are excellent.
I was looking for a classier Pho experience and found Elyse. The food was fresh and flavorful. We went for the Pho and it didn't disappoint, but the rest of the menu looked good too. The Staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend.
We went for my birthday and I felt very looked after. The food was outstanding ( I had the seafood trio and it was AMAZING). The evening went much too fast, and I can't wait for my next visit.
Three people shared two appetizers and had separate entrees. Ceviche was very fresh and good. Spring rolls were pretty good. The ratatouille and farci were underwhelming. Opted for the Brussels sprouts appetizer after reading all of the raves about it. Agreed, good but not extraordinary. Service was friendly and efficient. We expected a more pronounced Vietnamese food vibe.
Nice ambience. Everything had good flavor except tomatoes were pretty flavorless. Got the beef borguignon which was tasty but jus was not reduced enough and too liquidy. Seared salmon was ordered medium rare but served well done. Salmon had a nice crust. Cafe liegeois for dessert was as expected, quite good. Cocktails had were well made but I prefer boozier. Price was moderate so I was satisfied with the experience for the price we paid.
I do not normally order fish but tried the salmon and it was perfection. The portion was large enough to have extra to bring home. My husband had the steak. Of course I had to have a bite. Truly, one of the best I have ever eaten. The owner was friendly . We plan to return.
The service was good. As for the food, all of the appetizer that we tried were very good. The two entrees however were nothing to write home about. The deserts were good.
Overall this was a very good experience. Service was a little slow for our main course, but they made up for it with a nice apology.
Overall, the food was very good with some really good blends of flavors. The Brussels sprout salad was particularly amazing. The cocktails were also very good, as was the tiramisu dessert.
First time here, totally impressed. Started with margaritas. Nice. Shared soft shell crab and the spring rolls. Both were perfect. Then we had the pho, and the salmon. Both were outstanding. Friendly service by Maggie and the rest of the staff made for a great night out. At 5:30 on a Saturday, the restaurant was pleasantly crowded...definitely worth going to.
Good meal. Appetizer (Brussel sprouts) were very good, but came out almost immediately and were just warm. Molten lava cake at the end was good, but too molten and not enough cake for my taste. Service was very good.
This was our second visit to Elyse. Our first visit was 5-stars all the way. On this visit there were 3 very large parties causing the noise level to be so loud we could barely hear. Even the wait staff kept asking "What"! The service didn't measure up. We were in the restaurant three hours!
Our waiter left much to be desired. It took a long time before we were asked for our beverage order and even longer for it to arrive. A party the same size as ours was seated next to us well after we were seated. They were done eating before our food arrived. Also, to fill the waiting gap we ordered a second bottle of wine, We had to ask twice before it was delivered.
The waiter apologized for the food and beverage delays and provided complementary desserts.
Fabulous food! Excellent service. Friendly, attentive, and polite service! I highly recommend Elyse! I had the Ahi Tuna salad. One of the best I have ever tasted! My friend had the soft shell crab and Elyse salad and loved her choices, too! I want to hurry back! Great restaurant!
would definitely come back. to try other dishes. Short ribs excellent. Brussell sprouts not to be missed.
Petit farcise is my husband's favorite dish. I like the Mine is the short ribbourguignon. A little fatty but delicious.
Great find! Excellent food, service, and atmosphere.
The food was delicious, and our server was very attentive. The decor is beautiful as well. I highly recommend Elyse.
This was our first visit to Elyse, and my wife and I had a wonderful dining experience! The food was outstanding, with great variety and flavor. The spring roll appetizer and brussel sprouts salad were delicious, and our two vegetarian entrees were mouth-watering. The ambiance was excellent with a modern French feel, and lovely jazz music playing in the background. Our server, Kim, was exceptional. She was friendly, attentive, and conversational, which really helped make our evening at Elyse quite memorable! This was a perfect dinner for us before we made our way over to the Sharks game. We'll definitely be back to do it again!
Second time here, and they really went above and beyond to make it a special visit. Superb food, service, and ambiance. Thank you! ❤️
Wonderful experience in downtown SJ. Great menu selections. Extremely warm hospitality. Will go again soon. Highly recommend.
Failed to notify me of the pre fixe only menu. Website didn’t say anything. Open table didn’t say anything. I asked someone who seemed to be a manager if it is pre fixe only and he said yes. I told him I had no clue and he said oh I tried to call everyone. I must have "skipped" you. The food looked like it was probably good.
We go there repeatedly and enjoy it every time. As I said above food, staff do a great job.
