Ely Wine Store
I ate here before and had a really good experience but this time around not so good! Curry was cold and watery. Chips were cold and burnt. Bread was burnt rather than toasted! We could see the food on the counter for too long. Anyhow we did like the food here before so we will give it another go but last Sunday was not a good day for the chef!
I order fish &chips and was quite surprised that the fish looked more like bigger fish fingers. My friend order it too, and got slightly bigger pieces. If I knew the size of fish will be that small I wouldnt order it at all. It will be nice if you consider changing size of the fish a bit. A part of that everything was absolutely fantastic. I have personal request to pass my own apologies to a waitress which was looking after us. She was absolutely brillant, I confused her about the dessert order by saying I want the same as my friends order and missed the fact she was also ordering cup of coffee, I didnt want it but said yes, as I said it was my fault totally, and dudnt have a chance to apologise this waitress so if you can do it for me Ill be most grateful. We absolutely loved to have a lunch in your place and thank you so much for having us.
Food was very good. Our waiter was really good too but there was too much for him to do. They need more waiters.
Lovely!! Food, service and wine was amazing!! And we were presently surprised at how affordable it was. Great atmosphere and buzz but acoustics are on the louder side which is unavoidable in some of the rustic style restaurants.
Another great experience at Ely. Great atmosphere, comfortable surroundings and a relaxed vibe. The staff have the balance right. Just enough attention and not intrusive. We will be back!
Another very pleasant experience at Ely for Brunch/Lunch. I will certainly be back again and would like to try the wine tasting experience.
Great food and wine, was my second time in Ely Maynooth and would definitely recommend it.
Food was very average, wine excellent and the environment was noisy! There was a large party close by and a lot of foul language which annoyed us, more so because the proprietor did nothing about it!
I was disappointed to be charged fir a meal I couldn’t eat. When asked about it I informed waiter that risotto was watery and prawns were only warm , consistent with frozen prawns being added in .... hardly restaurant standard. No reply yet to email I sent on Friday night .... another disappointment.
Food was beautiful, well done!!! An enjoyable night with lovely decor
Second visit to this little gem. First time was just to the wine bar and second was for dinner. Third time will be very soon....excellent service, food and choice of wines.
Love this place, friendly staff who have great knowledge of wines, good value for the quality of food and wine. Great addition to Maynooth village.
The room was cold when we arrived but the room did warm up eventually, The stove could have been lit, Shame it would have added to the atmosphere. Food is good no wow factor but tasty and well presented. Our server made an average meal a good meal.
Good food, friendly service. Very pleasant evening.
Knowledgeable waiter about wine and food and the food was delicious.
Very enjoyable evening! Good food and drinks.... helpful staff. Good addition to maynooth....
Once our full party sat down at 17.30 (admittedly the booking was for 17.00) we were advised that the table would be required by 19.15. I have no issue with a time limit on a booking once communicated at time of order. We were asked to leave at 19.15 and could not be accommodated downstairs for a drink as all tables were reserved (not occupied though).
Lovely interior keeping the character of the original building. Very cheerful service and tasty food. Will be back!
The place was cold ( we were upstairs 3pm on Sunday) everything else was amazing. Thank you
The meal was excellent, food really good but expensive. We asked for extra bread for the starters, which arrived. I was shocked to see at the end of the night that they charged us 1€ for the bread, this was on top of a bill of 170€ for 4. The waiter was embarrassed but said that this was policy that they had being discussing. It left a sour taste after that, up to that point was a great evening
Lovely girl called kaylin helped us and advised us re choice of wine .
Lovely atmosphere in ely
Really enjoyed the steak ...perfectly cooked .
Went to Ely wine bar for the first time and we weren't disappointed! Restaurant is small but just a nice size. The service was excellent, the staff were all very friendly. Food was delicious off the early bird menu
I really love this place, my guests from Belfast were very impressed. It was a warm and cosy retreat on a very rainy night and the food was fab. I really appreciate the great Portuguese wines, just fabulous
The first positive at Ely is that the staff are welcoming ,helpful and the service throughout was very good. The set menu offers value .Overall the food is good .The salmon starter was well put together with quality ingredients. This was tje best of the dishes, the chicken supreme was also good.
Great Atmosphere Good Food, Quality Wine, Tasty Beer. All Good😀
I had a lovely evening in a very pleasant atmosphere. The food was good and a very lovely charming girl served us.
A remarkably friendly place with superb food and excellent service with knowledge staff.
This was my second time to Ely - my choice of the Thai curry was fab - however, my boyfriend ordered the Rib Eye steak - and he was so disappointed - it was "wafer" thin and because of this he didn't get medium rear as ordered - it was seasoned fine but it was so thin that it was just cooked through! We also asked for a second glass of wine - which was taking so long we had to ask another waitress to go get it! Overall not great - my boyfriend won't go there again! I think I will - but probably with my girlfriends!!
Moved away from our pre booked table to a deli counter. Food very simple and not much on offer. Most wines on the menu are not available.
Although the food and service was very good the menu is very small and the choices are very limited. I think if they had more choice and variety I would then recommend this restaurant.
Limited menu, expensive for what you get, asked waitress for pannacotta with no sorbet or ice cream she was insistent it came with either, it was only when I pointed out to her that I presumed one had to put the sorbet on the pannacotta that the penny dropped , I mean really! I had linguine with goats cheese and chicken - most bland goats cheese I ever had! And there was far too much of it. Breast is chicken just plonked on top, awful presentation . Worst experience I ever had in Maynooth which is full of good. Ali high quality restaurants unfortunately this is not one of them
I've been to Ely 3 times. Once for dinner. The biggest disappointment was that I had arranged on the phone that there was coeliac birthday on my table and if they didnt order dessert, to give a coeliac dessert anyway and I would take care of it. Nothing came. I waited, then coffee came. Nothing.
Without asking, we were told the burger was med/rare, was that ok. They were both well done which wouldn't be an issue had we not been told otherwise. The food was lovely all the same. Wine caused confusion. Place numbers being reiterated to the barman would have avoided this. Downstairs at the reception/bar the waiter checked if my table of 3 booked in advance. There were 2 people upstairs and still I was sat at a table of 4? I trust Ely and its reputation and have since went back for lunch and really enjoyed it. A curley haired waiter with glasses was brilliant in particular the two times I encountered him. Dont get me wrong, the dinner experience aside, I love what your doing and only telling you because I was asked and want the best for Ely and wish it every success.
Good, vibey little restaurant with nice wines by the glass to accompany a midweek splurge. We enjoyed all the food we ate, but the menu could do with more solid vegetarian offering. That said - we will be back!
We invited a couple who had recently got engaged to Ely Maynooth . Looking forward to trying the wine list & food as I love the Ely @ Ely place in Dublin .
We are very disappointed
Our booking was for 7.30 . I get a call at 7.05 to as us if we could get to the restaurant early as the kitchen closed at 7.30. We couldn’t accommodate that as we were waiting on a taxi.
We arrived exactly on time .
To say we were rushed was an understatement. We had hardly taken off our coats and we were reminded about the kitchen closing & we needed to order now!!
We all found the menu v limited. No veg / vegan option- not that is a chance to really look at the menu as we were so rushed.
Sitting looking into the kitchen didn’t help . The kitchen staff practically had there coats on 10 mins after we ordered .
The wine we ordered wasn’t available.. we love our wine & the thing we like Ely ( place) is the chance to try new wines & have a conversation about them.. maybe try a glass of something different/ buy a bottle of same or another. Nothing like this conversation happened.
Nice young guy.. little knowledge. Recommended a very poor French red, cut a long story short. Money wasn’t an issue.
We all ordered the fish & chips - didn’t go with the red but that was our problem . The red was ordered first and we looked at the menu after. V limited indeed.
Our food was out in what seemed like 5 mins. Our wine wasn’t even served . That didn’t arrive or get poured until our guests were nearly finished their meals .
I could do on .. the fish & chips were good quality . We got no attention apart from the constant - would you like anything else as we are closing the kitchen.
We could see into the kitchen from our table & the bins were being pulled out as were were finishing our meal . Kitchen staff leaving and walking by us saying loud goodbyes .
It was the fastest meal out I’ve ever had. I can’t remember music but for sure there was no relaxing atmosphere. Lights up full blast.
We had a lovely brunch here. Very good quality food, great service.
We had an enjoyable evening in Ely,the food and service were great however I felt the seating was a little uncomfortable.
Absolutely love this place. The wine is exceptional, staff are always very friendly and very attentive and food and wine great value for money. My only issue was the beef cheek was really nice but much too salty.
Food and wine we're excellent. Our waiter was very patient, attentive and helpful. Will be back and will highly recommend.
Excellent staff and very tasty food but I believe that it was a little bit overpriced for the offer to be honest.
€80 for the fish special x 2 , 2 glasses of white wine, a bottle of water and two deserts at 7:30pm on a Monday.
Very tasteful design but tables and chairs should be regularly checked for a wobble when they are being set and permanently addressed.
I’d suggest that some acoustic absorbing material is added to absorb the noise as there are a lot of hard surfaces and the clatter reverberates quite a bit.
Overall a good experience which could be improved upon with some minor attention
Excellent service very personable great idea with the cheese and wine tasting in the store part. Food was excellent we'll definitely be going again.
