The dining room — all crisp lines, minimalist décor and soft lighting — is anchored by a wide open kitchen on one side and a small patio with a working fireplace on the other. Combined with the friendly service, it creates the impression that you’re eating in a supremely tasteful Scandinavian friend’s weekend home.
As always, the creative but approachable menu, the service and the quiet outdoor space were wonderful. My wife and I went for our anniversary and are vegetarians. They altered the fixed menu to take care of us, and it was just wonderful. The staff can describe the dishes in great detail, are present when you want them and absent when you don't. We've gone there for previous anniversaries and brought friends there, I recommend them most highly.
Had 3 different dishes, each notable for different reasons. The octopus was very tender, texturally similar to the roasted carrots but with subtle differences in flavor, and the mustard seeds added a big contrast in texture but without a powerful/overwhelming flavor. The wt pepper rigatoni with corn had beautiful summer sweetness overlying slight spice of pepper (and the pasta was nicely al dente). The skate cheeks seemed more classically French in style. Would love to try the chefs tasting menu on a future visit
Went here with my husband on Saturday night. We were able to sit out on the patio and it was gorgeous. Food was so amazing I just wish we could have tried everything! One of my new favorite places. We will definitely be back!
Great date night experience. If the weather is decent, highly recommend outdoor dining. Eclectic menu with several items worth exploring. Let the service staff make recommendations to you from the skate cheek to the rigatoni pasta with sweet corn.
Really like Elske and the tasting menu was delicious. My only complaint would be that it was very loud. I'm not sure what if anything can be done about this but it really was hard to hear each other during our meal.
We had a great evening at Elske. The tasting menu hit the right mix between experimental (introducing us to new flavors) and being very satisfying. Also, the staff were knowledgeable, fun and professionel.
As a Dane I appreciated the discrete Danish inspiration. My grandmother would have been proud of that cucumber salad.
Will recommend Elske to friends and hope to come back another time. Tak for mad!
I would definitely recommend Elske. This restaurant stands apart from the rest. The quality and freshness of ingredients was evident and the taste was fresh and clean. No rancid oils or over cooking. I lean toward a RAW diet with lightly cooked meats/fish. They had no trouble fitting the bill! A "paleo" type person would be delighted... though the portions are small. Another important thing to mention: they paid close attention to my diet particulars: no soy, dairy or grains. Very happy and will visit again.
The drinks and ambiance are perfect.
The food was disappointing. Nothing was hot/delicious.
Having drinks in front of the fireplace before dinner was wonderful & set the mood for our romantic dinner. Drinks were delicious. The restaurant decor & inside courtyard are warm & inviting! Every dish was exceptional, except the beef, which was a bit disappointing. Service was exceptional.
We celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Elske and the staff was INCREDIBLE. They greeted us with celebratory champagne and a sweet card to use next year for our anniversary. We were blown away by the adorable patio seating (complete with blankets if it gets chilly and a fireplace), the service, the tasting menu (pescatarian for me and regular tasting for my spouse) and the wine pairing. We had such a wonderful, memorable evening at Elske, and we cannot wait to return for our 2nd anniversary!
The food was beautiful and delicious. We got the tasting menu with wine pairing and every bite was to be savored. Every member of the staff was knowledgeable, professional, and just downright nice. The room is clean and sparse, without feeling sterile. Lovely outdoor space as well.
Fantastic service! Beautiful restaurant!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Elske. We sat outside in the patio, which is very cozy and comfortable. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Each of the staff who came to our table was friendly. The food was delicious. We opted for a la carte; including, the potato culurgiones with smoked mozzarella, sungolds, and tomato leaf; the skate cheeks with stewed spinach, cabbage, turnip, and pickled turmeric; the bacon-wrapped pork belly with green beans, roasted apple, and watercress; and the savory oat cake with smoked veal heart, raspberries, and garden herbs. Everything was really good, especially the veal heart and pork belly dishes. The desserts were divine. My husband had the sunflower seed parfait with sour honey, licorice, and bee pollen; and I had the milk chocolate custard with toasted bread and øllebrød. I would say we'll be back because we really did love it; although, it comes at a cost: The 4 savory dishes, 2 desserts, 2 non-alcoholic beverages, and tip was $85 per person.
Below average, was not satisfied. Service was disappointing.
Absolutely wonderful! The staff is impeccable, the wine to die for, and the food spectacular. Simply delightful. Heed the staff’s advice; their recommendations were on point!
Honestly we had mixed reviews for Elske. It was a lovely environment especially as we chose to sit outside. Even though it started sprinkling, it was totally manageable and the restaurant had the cozy grey blankets at the ready. Very nice. The service was excellent too. We ordered the prix fixe menu and would have appreciated a bit of a slower service. We kinda felt rushed. Also, we were disappointed in the lamb course and the fact that almost all of the wine pairings were white. The dessert had much to be desired with blue berries and a small spoon of vanilla ice cream. We came here for our anniversary and would only recommend it if the food menu changed. Our review = nice ambiance and service but food and wine courses could be improved.
One of the best meals I’m a long time. Very creative food.
Beautiful and wonderful meal in unpretentious setting. Excellent service and value.
Amazing food!! Fantastic wine!! Great ambiance!
We like the food at Elske, and this meal did not disappoint. All 5 dishes that we ordered were new to us, and each was a winner. The anchovies with grilled bread, raw tuna, endive salad, and soft shell crab dishes were light and tasty. The rigatoni with cheese was filling and delicious. Our server Marie was knowledgeable about the menu, providing guidance to us in our order. She and the rest of the serving team were attentive and professional throughout. Thank you for a wonderful meal. We look forward to a return visit.
Great service from start to finish. If I was to criticize one thing, I would say our main server could have checked in more. Having a different person serving each course makes for good service in a way, but not as intimate as fewer servers. The recommendations we got on the menu were very good. I think the prix fixed menu is a bit overpriced. We got better value by ordering 5-6 menu items and 2-3 drinks each is better value than wine pairing ... All in all it was great ... just providing some feedback to potential diners that want value. Don’t hesitate to come eat here. It’s worth the effort and the tastes were memorable.
When I left I took a picture and the staff posed for me in the window. Very friendly indeed and a nice goodbye touch:-)
The best restaurant I’ve been to in years, start to finish. Wait staff extraordinary and friendly and knowledgeable ... Rli and Jor and the others. We had fine wines, anchovy appetizer, soft shell crab, Arctic char....and delicious desserts. Great great restaurant ... even a patio!
Special cake with candle
Wine service exceptional
Pacing could have been just a bit slower
Dishes and plating Michelin worthy
The service was up and down. We had different servers throughout our service. This place lacks consistency in terms of service as well as in the food. We ordered rigatoni pasta and when the plate came to the table they informed us that they ran out of the rigatoni so they used a different pasta. The amount of time that it took for dishes to come out was insane . We had to wait 30 min in between dishes. I Would not recommend this place to anyone, Chicago is a great city with many restaurants that are far better than this one. The decor was underwhelming and it did not posses hygge or the Scandinavian sense of design at all.
This is a dining experience not just dinner out. We ordered many small plates and shared. It was one amazing bite after another. You cannot go wrong here. If you love food it is a must.
Take a small group and do the same. Every dish is complex and layered with flavor.
The service is informed and approachable. Each service member does a great job of taking care of you without getting in the way of your primary focus. The food. We loved it all.
We opted for the tasting menu (with wine pairing) and were pleasantly surprised. It included approximately 10 dishes (some small bites, others more filling). Highlights included anything with their mushrooms, the duck (served two ways), and the milk ice cream and blueberry desert.
Went for rosio Sanchez's pop up and had as great time. Servers were very attentive and dishes came out at a good pace.
Went for Rosie Sanchez’s tasting menu as we plane to be at her restaurant in Copenhagen in three weeks. Wonderful food!!!
I really like Elske. Tasty food, thoughtful service, a good room.
Beautiful yet relaxed space and patio. Excellent food, beautifully presented. Thoughtful flavor combinations. Attentive service.
Skate cheeks were amazing! Don’t skip the bread! 4th visit, enjoyed each one. Will return!
Our evening at Elske was fabulous. The menu is creative and unusual enough that we chose the tasting option. We would try the a la carte options the next time to experience even more new items. The service is attentive without being cloying. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate whether you are inside or out on the patio (our choice).
One of the best meals I've ever had! They definitely deserve their accolades. Love this restaurant!
Amazing food with friendly and attentive service. I also loved sitting outside. I am telling everyone I can about this place.
Elske is my new favorite Chicago restaurant. Everything was perfect. Don't tell anyone else.
Great experience at Elske. We sat on the patio and had the tasting menu with wine pairings. Each offering was interesting and delicious, and sized so you can enjoy the full menu. Service was outstanding. The patio is very nice with a fire; very relaxing. Overall one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in Chicago.
I took my wife for our Anniversary and I we had an amazing service, not to mention a delightful sequence of plates, cocktails and wine
BEST meal I have had in Chicago. It’s a must
For my birthday dinner, Elske was a great choice. Excellent food and imaginative menu, casually good service and a wonderful white chocolate frozen dessert cake presented as a gratis birthday gift. The restaurant is simple and lovely, with a beautiful courtyard for outdoor dining. I highly recommend Elske.
Everything was perfect! Service was impeccable. Extremely well chosen wine list matched the menu. We did the tasting menu. Top to bottom, every course was spot on and a well-planned progression. A classic.
Had a brilliant night sitting outside by the fire. Gorgeous minimalist atmosphere, amazing food and fab wine list. Would definitely go again.
