ABOUT: Elske means love in Danish, a nod to both David Posey’s Danish mother and the fact that the couple got engaged in Copenhagen. “Our travels in Denmark have really influenced us,” Chef Posey said. “We like that clean, simple aesthetic.” The dining room, all crisp lines, minimalist décor & soft lighting, is anchored by a wide open kitchen on one side & a small patio with a working fireplace on the other. Combined with friendly service, it creates the impression that you’re eating in a tasteful Scandinavian friend’s weekend home.

    Food was great. Host was so cold and had us sit and wait for our table for 20 minutes without any communication. When we went to ask how much longer, they brushed us off and acted like it was our problem for asking. We then had to ask to order a drink. Long hair blonde person host. Should not have to ask to order a drink or have no communication regarding our table status at an establishment like this.

    We did the set menu, and unfortunately, much of it just didn’t land for us. While the service was generally good, we were hoping for a warmer welcome—especially as first-timers visiting from out of town. We really enjoyed the tea to start and the shrimp toast—both were excellent. However, the cod was overwhelmingly salty, even for people who usually love salt. It was nearly inedible. The duck liver tart also missed the mark. It felt one-dimensional, with the liver overpowering the other components. It also took over 30 minutes to arrive. That said, our server acknowledged the delay and kindly comped our drinks—much appreciated. The main course of striploin, beef sausage, and beef tongue with cabbage felt overly heavy and a bit monotonous. The striploin was well-cooked and flavorful, but the overall dish could have used more variety or acidity to cut through all the richness. The dessert was the highlight. The Skyr was fantastic—easily the best thing we had all evening and nearly strong enough to redeem the entire meal. Service-wise, our server was friendly and attentive once we were seated, but the initial reception left something to be desired. The hosts didn’t greet us in a way that felt welcoming, and we had to ask for an introduction to the restaurant and the menu—something we would’ve expected as first-time guests.

    Fabulous experience. Ordered a la carte, and everything was fantastic. Arctic char, striploin, and sunchokes were standouts. Ambience and service outstanding. Next time will order set menu so we can sample more of their delicious creations. Overall, highly recommend for a unique and memorable dining experience.

    One of our favorite places we ate at in Chicago. Did not get the tasting menu, opting for a la carte. Everything tasted wonderful and was beautifully prepared. All the flavors harmonized well. The pasta angliotti was outstanding. I made the mistake of not specifying how I liked my meat cooked (medium). It came medium rare, which husband happily ate his half. I asked to have the other half cooked a little longer to medium. They came out with a brand new dish cooked to medium, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and husband again enjoyed his half. He said he preferred the medium rare. 😂 All in all, this is an amazing place for dinner.

    An amazing first time experience at Elske! Our favorites were the chocolate mousse and rhubarb cinnamon sorbet which were the highlights of the meal as well as the pasta with morels were to die for! Arctic Char and Chicken was absolutely tasty as well. We can't wait to come back to experience the different menus as the seasons change!

    It was a lovely experience from beginning to end. We opted to forego the tasting menu due to some limitations with gluten free availability. What we did select was exceptional: Sunchoke crepe, Arctic char, soft shell crab and ribs. We selected desserts that were a hit and a miss. The NA martini was good and the wines by the glass offered nice options. Our server was very polite, helpful and timely. The crepe was absolutely exceptional and a must try for any visit.

    Not only were they able to accommodate our dietary restrictions on the set menu, one gluten free and one pork free, but they didn't make us feel like it was a hassle. We highly enjoyed menu items that are usually 'no thanks' for us. Amazing.
