We had an excellent meal and drinks before a show at the Cabot. Loved the duck confit hash and pork bellies. Our waiter Tom was a true professional and really listened to our preferences as he suggested different food and drink choices. He helped me with my gluten intolerance double checking with the chef when he was unsure. The flavors in the different food choices just jumped off the plate. We will be returning!
Can't say enough good things about the food. Three of five diners had the pot roast, one had the swordfish and the other had the pork chop. Everyone raved about their dishes. We started with a charcuterie board which was also delicious. Several guests loved the pate'. We also had an order of the asparagus fries which were also good. We finished off dinner by sharing an order of the caramel sea salt gelato, which was creamy and smooth. Our server Paul was great. He was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. We never felt rushed. The only complaints were drink service was slow and the restaurant is very loud. We will go back but perhaps on a quieter weeknight.
Lots of menu choices, nice atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable server.
Everything was great. Servers were friendly, knowledgeable and there when you needed anything. The food was amazing! Not sure what was our favorite but I could eat the shrimp Som Tam everyday. Will definitely go back.
The sauce on my octopus appetizer was very salty. But the dish was beautifully prepared. Wonderful gnocchi and grilled octopus. Other than that, nothing to complain about. Very nice dining experience. The staff made sure that we got to our show on time.
We had a really good experience—excellent food, wine, and service. We’d highly recommend.
I had an early dinner here with 6 friends before attending a show at the Larcom Theatre. Everyone raved about the food they had; it was delicious, prepared as ordered, and beautifully presented. The cocktails are unique and fun and as delicious as the food. Our server, Paul, was really outstanding. He was very helpful with the drink menu as well as the descriptions of the food. This place was a great find for us and we will be back. Also, the interior is charming and cozy which adds to the enjoyment of the entire experience.
Awesome food, awesome drinks, awesome service. Our favorite bistro in Beverly hands down!
What a pleasant surprise. We walked in with no preconceptions (except that it was close to our evening destination) and had a wonderful meal. From the lamb belly and grape leaves appetizer to the medium rare steak to the Bolognese (served with rice!), to the creamiest polenta I've ever eaten, this was a wonderful meal all around. I do not get to Beverly often, but this would easily be on my list for a return visit
Service was impeccable. Paul was outstanding and we would go back just for the service. Also, best steak I’ve had out in a long time too. Well done, Ellis. Well done.
The service was great, our table was ready right on time and everything we ate was delicious
excellent food, fun atmosphere- we had the salmon and the bolobowl- super yummy. We did feel our server was upselling us more than we would have liked, but will definitely go back.
Felt like a Somerville/Cambridge experience, but in Beverly. Loved it!
First visit to Ellis Square Social. We needed a larger table for a three couples the next day, and they had openings and an intriguing menu.
Since moving further north of Boston, I've complained in several reviews that it is hard to find a nice "going out" restaurant in the Beverly area where the service matches the quality of the food and decor. For example, the food at Soma a few doors down is great, but the service has been mediocre and even quite terrible. If the prices weren't also high, I could tolerate it, but I wish I had a "go to" fine dining establishment nearer my new home like we did when we lived closer to the city.
At Ellis Square Social, our server was great. He knew the menu backwards and forwards and helped the vegetarians and picky eaters find suitable dishes. He was proactive and there is nothing to complain about at all. Top notch!
Our food ranged from very good to average. For the price, I wish it were just a bit more consistent. Like other reviewers, the highlight of my meal was the mushroom croquettes. Delicious! The scallion pancake was a bit spicy for me, but that's my tastes and I'd say it was also very good. The chicken arepas, the dish I'd most anticipated trying, felt slightly wrong in the seasoning. Totally edible, but not special, and maybe not even as good as the chicken salad I get at my regular deli... No espresso is offered, and my french press after dinner coffee experienced a pressing malfunction (major spray!) when a server brought it to our table. She carried it away to solve the problem (overfilled?), but my coffee had chunks of grounds in it when I got it. Ick.
The wine list looked good to me and my Washington State cab was great and well priced.
Ambiance is attractive and the room is pleasant. Our group did spend a few seconds joking about the "aged" atmosphere in a restaurant that opened in 2018. Slightly loud, but we could chat. Had a high top table, which I hate. Booths are available & I'll request one next time.
Food was excellent - get the big bowl o bolo & grilled carrots! They bring around a bread basket but the waiter just gives you a small piece of baguette, shame because the whipped salted butter was delicious. Cocktails were good, desserts disappointing and overpriced for portion sizes (malted cup of creme and warm chocolate cake). Really loud and hard to hold a convo on a Friday night, but busy show crowd and cheerful atmosphere! Service was great.
Beautiful space, well designed and inviting restaurant in the center of Beverly. Food is good but needs more spices to better enhance the base ingredients.
First time to Ellis Square Social. Drinks were top-notch. Food is a little pricey for what you get, but the quality was excellent! I will definitely go back. If you have a party of 4, I suggest you don't go for the high-top table option. It was pretty tight. High top would be great for 2 people. If more than 2, hold out for standard seating.
We always enjoy our dining experience at Ellis Square Social. The menu is limited, but the food is always very good. The service is excellent. Highly recommend.
This was an amazing find. It was a warm and welcoming place with amazing food and service. An unanticipated treat in Beverly!
The food tasted and looked very good. We tried several appetizers as well as entrees. Everything was delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try something else.
excellent food in excellent service very good atmosphere chef the best
Ellis Square Social would be good at half the price. The food was mediocre. The service was just OK. I don't understand why the place was so crowded with such an overpriced mediocre menu. It's not like there are no other restaurants on Cabot Street. It is a small restaurant and was totally booked up with reservations early on a Saturday evening. The parking in Beverly is terrible. I had to park more than a block away. With all tables occupied, the noise is terrible. But the worst was the food. It was so bland I had to ask the waitress for a pepper mill and had to grind pepper onto every bite. I won't be going back. The beer was good, though. I'm only writing this bad review because Open Table emailed me asking for it. So here it is. If you want a good place to eat in Beverly, go to the Depot.
What a pleasant surprise! We came from Ohio for a concert at the Cabot and found Ellis Square Social (actually chose it because it took reservations). The food and the ambiance were exceptional. We started with the mushroom croquettes. They had great flavor. I had the salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the coconut was very subtle in the risotto. My husband had a burger...it was so good, he took half home (too much food) and enjoyed it for breakfast the next morning.
Food was excellent and our server Matt made great pairing suggestions. Never a moment without food and timed correctly for enjoyment.
this was our second visit to Ellis Square Social. We came back with friends. We all had small plates. All four of us tried the mushroom croquettes which were very tasty. Our friends had lamb meat balls and I think little pancakes. We had duck confit which was also very good and pork belly which was a large portion and also very good. Our waitress was very personable. The night that we were there, there was not a large crowd so we could carry on a conversation. We like the creative menu and the ambience and will be back.
Paul was excellent. Made it a great first time visit. Classic cocktails made a nice intro to very good food. I vote for the bone in pig and friends thoroughly enjoyed the pot roast. No room for dessert but offerings looked great. Go and enjoy!
really great place, super friendly staff, and atmosphere along with staff made this a top notch place, I hope to return and often
Friendly, knowledgeable service. Nice ambiance. Delicious food. Parking was difficult possibly due to the show at the Cabot Theater that evening.
Top food preparation with a range of options. Outstanding and personable service. A unique and surprising selection of bourbon, rye, and whiskey. Excellent cocktails too. A very fun evening out.
nice to have some different flavors in Beverly! inventive excellent cuisine and great service! can't wait to go back!
Entree was not worth $28. My friend got a similar dish and she said the same thing. I don’t mind spending money on food...as long as it’s good. Left much to be desired. Service, drinks and mushroom croquettes were excellent though.
Been here three time before. I am impressed with the wait staff that intimately knows the menu and does a great job describing the specials. I am a foodie and the menu here never disappoints.
Eclectic and lively restaurant. We were a party of 5, and the menu offered interesting takes on swordfish, beef, pork. The preparation an presentation were good with generous portions. The house made charcuterie board was ample for the table. The bar is equally innovative in libations. The cocktails are unique and good our son enjoyed the craft beer selection. Tom our server was great!
Went in for a valentines dinner—we loved Barrel House before it became Ellis Square, but hadn’t been in a couple years.
I can’t express how phenomenal our meal was, from service, to plating, drinks to dining, this was the best meal I’ve had in maybe years.
My wife and I split the Duck Confit Arancini, A Particular Burger, and an 8 oz steak special. The burger was the best I’ve ever eaten, and coming from an area where we have a number of fantastic burger options, this was an absolute treat. The steak was perfect, tender, and flavorful. Even the fries were crispy, but tender, and perfectly seasoned.
We finished the night with the Malted Chocolate Cake, and couldn’t have been happier.
We will be back very soon!
Great, knowledgeable staff. Pot roast was incredibly tender and the mushroom jus was scrape-the-bowl delicious, chocolate cake was a perfect finish.
Everything was great except it was very loud!! Our server Paul was amazing!!
We only had two "share dishes" and both were good - the cauliflower was delicious and the scallion pancake a little of a misnomer on the name. It was great for those who like mushrooms, but it was mostly mushrooms on a flatbread. The swordfish and pork chop were spoken highly of. Two people got the burger and didn't comment. The orzo risotto was tasteless and the "steak special", a skirt steak, was considered unremarkable. Two desserts - sticky toffee was pretty good but the butterscotch was insipid, sweet with little flavor except for the nut toppings. Atmosphere is nice although we were a little crammed at a table meant for 4 (problem I think booking on-line), noise level good, service was really excellent. (kudos).
We went for Valentine’s Day. Our waitress was great. The entrees were good, but to be expected, as they are pricey. Would have given more stars, but the cheese plate we ordered was such a disappointment. For the price, the plating, quantity, and variety were such a miss. Seeing as it took up the first half of their menu, I expected a bit more in terms of presentation. Other dishes were good though, and the steak is excellent. Highly recommend the Brussels sprout sides.
Food was very good, menu had Many offerings that it was difficult to decide
Excellent food, friendly service, comfortable and fun atmosphere
