Great Saturday night vibe. Attentive knowledgeable waiter. Excellent martinis and over the top food. Our first visit and can’t wait to go back!
Had a 7:00 reservation. At 7:20 table still not ready. Asked for high top and guests were lingering since 4:45
Asked for another table for two and they sat us. Did bring over champagne for our anniversary for apology which was a nice touch.
It was our first time there and we’ll be back. The cocktails were excellent and we feasted on small bites and a yummy steak. It wasn’t cheap, but the food was great and it’s hard to find decent places on the Northshore.
Really good comfort food . Best Mac and cheese . Lamb meatballs awesome. Very inventive drinks . Second time there and made res again
First time at Ellis Social Club. Very interesting menu with many unique, and shareable, dishes. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great suggestions. Food and drinks were very good and we look forward to returning.
We had a great time here. The food is uniquely prepared and the service is EXCELLENT. Love the atmosphere! Highly recommend.
Good food, interesting menu. Highly varied and well done appetizers. Our foursome had a number and then split two entrees. Service was excellent. Will definitely return when we next go to North Shore Theatre. Only significant concern was that some of the sauces were a bit too much and some felt a bit similar. That might apply to the duck wings (which were otherwise terrific) and the innovative scallion pancakes.
This place has potential, but the food is just very bland. Almost flavorless. The chef should work on developing much stronger flavors.
This was our first visit, and we'll definitely be back-- plus have already recommended it to several friends. The food (especially the small plates) was great to share. Definitely different and adventuresome, but all in a good way. Fantastic drinks, coffee, and desserts, too. Our server, Paul, was attentive, helpful and informative. We were there after a matinee at NSMT. And, while it's difficult, if not impossible, to get five opinionated "older ladies" to agree on anything, we did agree that we love Ellis Square Social! Thank you.
Loved everything about it! Waiter (Tom)
Was exceptional!! Will return for sure!!
The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable. That atmosphere is perfect. The food will have you asking what is that flavor? It is delicious and extremely affordable.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, and the specific dishes. Plus, he didn't have to write down what we were ordering. I always find that impressive. :-) My bf and I were not sure when we walked in, but were sold when we met the waiter, and tasted the food. Very good. Will be going back.
We had a fantastic time! We enjoyed a great cocktail at the bar to start and enjoyed talking with the bartender, then we had an amazing meal. The food was prepared perfectly, the waiter was engaging, knowledgeable and made sure everything was good. My wife had the Risotto and I enjoyed the 9 ounce rib eye special which melted in your mouth. This is the best meal we have had in a long time! We loved the atmosphere and the food, and will definitely be back soon. Highly recommended!
We used to go to this place all the time when it was Barrel House and loved it. Happy to see that the quality of all aspects is still top-notch! Get the asparagus fries, they’re incredible!
Really good experience. Room had a lot of character. Service was very good and the food was terrific. We live pretty far away but will be back
Great food loved it
Server kept cutting us off before we finished ordering to turn to take order next table over. We had to flag another employee to take main course order. Maybe understaffed but it was only a Monday evening. Hamburgers were placed on small narrow rectangular plates. Very narrow plates so a bit messy. Ask for larger plates. Beautiful church across street. Improve service and I would rate a 5. Our visit, not so much.
Our server was excellent and knowledgeable. She made drink recommendations and assisted us navigating their menu. We've already recommended them to multiple people and we intend to go back soon.
First, our waitress was great. Kind. Attentive. Helpful suggestions. The restaurant is nice looking. Our cocktails were very good. Parking easy.
It’s an odd menu. Not sure how to explain but I recommend really looking at it before you go. Not quite sure how to categorize. All 5 of us were a little stumped on what to order. No obvious pairings for appetizer/entree. Food was ok.
We had the charcuterie and cheese board. Cheeses were good. Nuts tasted a bit like the smoker. Meets were unexpected. Two had the shells, one the salmon, one the pot roast. Can’t remember the last. All fine. Brownie sundae was huge. Good to share. Banana dessert was odd.
We shared a selection of small plates. Delicious and innovative food.
It was a Monday night so the restaurant was not crowded. The service was great, not much noise and the food was
great. My go to place when I want steak.
A lovely surprise! Stopped on our way home from the beach and were very happy that we did. The space is wonderful with interesting lighting and new “old” architectural features such as exposed brick and embossed tin ceilings.
The service was excellent as was the food The portions were generous and well prepared.
We look forward to returning soon!
Amazing food crushed any expectations we had. We'll be back often!
Made a reservation for 3 people for 6:30pm dinner before a concert next door at 8pm. Had to call and change reservation to 6:45pm because our sitter didn't make it on time. Person on the phone was very accommodating, said no problem at all. Reservation was for a standard table, specifically not a high-top (one person in our party has limited mobility).
We arrived 2 mins late at 6:47pm. There was no table for us. We were offered a high-top and after we explained that this couldn't be an option, we were offered a table at their sister restaurant, Soma, down the street. While this was great service to cover for their screw up, I would have preferred to be able to rely on the reservation for a table.
All said and done, food was amazing once we were seated and served. Dinner felt rushed because of the seating delay.
Pleasant servers but didn’t communicate well among themselves. Long wait time for drinks, tonic in Vodka tonic was too sweet and no carbonation. ALL drinks should be craft even old school ones. Did get discount however which was nice. Ordered ribeye steak which was small with large fat vein. couple on either side each got a perfect looking one. Ours was very tasty but small. Kitchen needs to do better QC on All plates, consistency is key. Wasn’t told about app specials had to ask for dessert. In summary if you want to charge big boy prices you have to have the whole game together from the time you enter to you leave.
Excellent creative food choice.. This was listed as a value restaurant, it was a bit pricier than expected... especially house wine at $12 a glass. Otherwise really great.
Before concert dinner. Food was great, the service was ok.
Paul was out server and he was knowledgeable and made good recommendations. The sauces for both Fried asparagus and mushroom Coquettes were fabulous
Had the pleasure of chatting with one of the owners. A lovely lady! Best of luck to Ellis Square
I would highly recommend
Amazing food from a very talented chef. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great meal.
We have been fortunate to have Tom wait us on our several times...he doesn’t skip a beat, attentive, professional and best of all pleasant. Also, a ‘thank you’ to the owners that made sure the vodka was back in inventory. This restaurant expresses their appreciation for your business, how nice!
We selected Ellis Square Social due to it's proximity to a show we were attending on Saturday night at the Cabot Theater 3 minutes down the street.
We sat at the windows and had some entertainment from the wedding across the street.
The craft cocktail was list was extensive. We settled on the Grains of Wrath (I like Rye) and Gimmie the Sweet Down Low (my wife likes Mescal). The beer list was pretty broad and tempting but glad we tried the bartender's creations. Both drinks were so good.
Small bites of Asparagus Fries and Mushroom Croquettes for appetizers and entrees the Pork Chop with a side of mushrooms and burger were our choice. I chose the chimichurri preparation for the pork chop and it was unbelievable. My wife is a burger aficionado and was very happy. We topped it off with the cheesecake and were very pleased with that choice also.
Probably the best part of the evening was the waiter. He explained the menu thoroughly and was on top of everything all night. Just a fantastic experience that is highly recommended.
The Cotuit Oysters were outstanding, the New York Strip was cooked to perfection, the Pomme Frites and Asparagus were great sides and our service was spot on! Finished off with sorbet and coffee....it couldn't have been a more perfect dinner!
Unique menu focused on small plates, but not Spanish Tapa’s style. Good food, good wine list, a bit noisy but not bad.
Worth a try.
Enjoyed our visit.
Found street parking right in front. Lucky! Metered parking, $1.50 for the night. Pay at sidewalk kiosk, know your license plate number as you enter it when you pay.
Reservation for six, table was ready, though our party tricked in due to 3 separate vehicles and friday traffic coming from Boston and CT.
Drink order was taken promptly. Cocktails and beers were good.
Waiter was easy to flag down as needed, no complaints with the service. Helpful, accomodating, offered spot-on recommendations when asked.
Table ordered several small plates plus a steak, a burger, as well as a couple of sides. Highlight was pork belly small plate. Least favorite was the Baratta small plate. Nothing worth complaining about, but the pork belly was worth raving about.
Steak was ordered medium rare, middle third was more towards rare according to the person who ordered it.
Burger was cooked to order, no complaints from that diner.
Mac and cheese was unremarkable.
Frites with aioli, aioli was terrific, frites were on the cool side of warm when brought to the table.
When we asked for the check it was delivered promptly.
A lively restaurant and bar. Crowded, Noisy, but not overboard. Conversation across the table was easy.
If in the area, I'll revisit.
Try it, I do think you'll like it.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Ellis Square Social! Extensive cocktail and wine menu with very interesting offerings. Meal was delicious. Several of us got the pot roast and loved it. Very tender with a lovely mix of flavors. Our waiter was excellent. Very informative and knowledgeable about the food and beverages. We will certainly be back.
Very disappointed with the food here, overly salty, overly priced. The steak and fish alone were very good however the appetizers and sides that came with the meals or that were ordered separately were sub par for a restaurant such as this. My wife barely ate. Perhaps we were there on an off night. Service was good as was the ambiance. 3 stars only due to the food
Lovely spot in Beverly. Food and cocktails were delicious. Attentive and knowledgeable staff.
Delicious food; excellent service; great beer selection and interesting mixed drinks.
Overall enjoyable dining experience.
Ellis Square Social was terrific in every way. Really attentive service; loved the atmosphere; the food was great. All good. They even collected the notebook I left, kept it at the hostess stand, and called me to make sure I knew it was there to come back and get. Good service. We'll come back!
