   Loved the menu choices, including splendid deserts. The food was delicious with wonderful service & a cozy comfortable ambiance. Ellie's is a hidden gem in Santa Ynez, offering a first rate dining experience. We will return ASAP.

   This restaurant is as close to perfect as it gets. In all categories. Beautiful welcoming dining room, attentive personnel, best food in the valley including desserts, even the music is awesome. And Joy even stops by to greet you.

   Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. The food was not my favorite. We had the sardines appetizer (quite literally an opened can of sardines and a pile of saltine crackers,) the warm apple salad (the star of dinner, for sure) and the crab cake (good crab cake, bland undercooked potato accompaniment.) Overall, our experience was just ok and I don’t see us coming back.

I can't dispute the sardine dish, which is why we list it simply on the menu , so there isn't confusion. I'm not sure how we missed the mark on the potato hash for the crab cake,.     Our 2nd visit. And we will continue to visit. We enjoyed an excellent lunch. The petite filet was cooked to medium rare perfection and served with a peppercorn sauce that was to die for. The sautéed spinach was a perfect match for the melt in your mouth steak. Our other dish was the halibut served with a mixed greens with orange segments. So delicious. Lunch is a great deal as they offer $10 glasses of wine. The Spanish Albariño paired beautifully with the fish. A glass of Syrah was our choice with the filet. We also enjoyed the cream of chanterelle soup with an order of the bread basket. Delicious! Our server Christine was very attentive and super friendly. The chef also came by to check in on on us. It’s a small place but we visited on a rainy day and there weren’t many patrons. The decor is lovely. Lots of seating options. Lots of wine options. We will be back on our next visit to the area.

    We had a rather mixed experience at Ellie’s. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We were told a large group had come along, so they needed our table. We were told we could sit outside (it was a very cold night) or at the bar. We chose the bar. It was a little awkward as the restaurant is not large and we were right by the kitchen door. Not exactly the romantic anniversary we had planned. It did get a little better. The waiter was excellent, very personable and efficient. And the food was fine. The calamari was excellent. They have a nice selection of wines. Overall we had a nice dinner

    First time diners. The hospitality and quality of the food were both excellent. My friend ordered the halibut with wilted spinach, and it was some of the best halibut I have ever tasted. It is a denote winner.

    Our party of five dined at Ellie’s last night to celebrate a birthday. Our server, Brock, was friendly and efficient despite how busy the restaurant was. All of our starters were delicious- we ordered salads, calamari and ahi tuna. Our entrees were all phenomenal! We ordered osso bucco, the filet mignon, halibut and short ribs, and all were seasoned to perfection. We loved our desserts as well. Ellie’s offers a nice variety, and there’s something for everyone on the menu. I appreciate that Ellie’s accommodates my food allergies. Overall, a 10/10 for all five of us!

    It was Restaurant Week so it was very crowded and noisy, service was chaotic. The starter's and main course were good. It took 45 minutes to get our dessert and it was burnt when it arrived.

    Joy and Jay delivered a wonderful meal. Because it was Dine SYV week we each ate three dishes, much more than I would normally order. Everything was great, especially the warm Carmel used apple salad, spicy crab cake, and bread pudding. Wonderful service and experience.

    There is not a bad thing on the menu. I had the halibut with the hoesin sauce and it was delicious. For appetizers we had the backed brie (which we wish there was more of) and the mushroom soup. The soup was the best I have had in the valley. My son had the chicken and my daughter inlaw had the tomahawk ribs for the main course. Everything was wonderful and it is always nice to have the owner and chef stop by your table to see how everything was.

    We have usually had good experiences at Ellies but on this occasion both the food and service were lacking. Especially disappointing in celebrating a special birthday. One member of our party had the filet and it was so undercooked we sent it back. The second steak was also grossly undercooked. My fish was over cooked. Both desserts we ordered were not edible. The apple crisp was stone cold and the mouse was so hard, like fudge. The service was also not good. The one server disappeared for large stretches of time. We did let the restaurant know of our concerns. Usually a nice hidden gem but not one aspect of our meals was up to par. Not sure we will return. The ambience though is very nice and quaint and not noisy like so many other places.

It was cooked to perfection and when I hand delivered it, you said nothing to me about an issue with your fish. We removed your desserts from your menu because you weren't happy. And, yes, the whole valley is certainly understaffed and we were short last night and my staff did great under the circumstances. If you're local, then you know that I am the owner and that I am very approachable. You could and should have spoken to me.

    The restaurant was highly booked and under staffed but the wait staff was very nice and explained the situation. We had to wait a bit for our meal - some of our choices were 86ed but overall it was still a very tasty meal in a charming spot. Would go back next time we are in the area.
