Ella Restaurant + Bar Ratings and Reviews
This is my third visit to Ella and the worst so far. The food was fair but I have had better on previous trips. I was very disappointed in our waiter. He was very rushed and hardly spoke to us. He just didnt seem to have the time. You deserve better service when paying that much. I may return and give it one more chance but that will be it. It is a good spot but they need to do a lot better.
Seated immediately. Knowledgable server. Ordered drinks and then we sat... a long time. The server apologized and said the bar was backed up. He ended up "comping" our drinks for the 4 of us. On the other hand, the food was excellent and a good value. The entrees were large enough that we did not need salads or appetizers. Both my husband and I ordered one of the evenings specials which we very nice. The warm complimentary bread was awesome! Nice overall.
This restaurant was recommended by our B&B host and it did not disappoint! My scallops were the best I've ever had - please try them if you go! It was unusually busy for a Monday night but the service was still great. I only wish it was a little quieter - sound was bouncing off the concrete floors and walls which made it less than romantic. If they improve the ambiance, this place could be in my top 5!
Party of three. Table was ready 15 min after our Open Table reservation. Table surface sticky, no table cloth, VERY noisy so that normal conversation not practicable, all members of our party very pleased with their meals. Might have stayed for more drinks but too noisy.
My wife and I have dined at Ella previously and both times it has been a real treat. The food is really great and flavorful, you never get a bland experience. I personally love the scenery inside the restaurant which is provided by the Haley Gallery which is located next door. Definitely a restaurant we'll continue to visit.
The lunch choices were beautifully plated.
The Eat Local mantra is so very evident. How charming to find yourself sitting on the outdoor patio with a flourishing garden at your side.
We enjoyed our conversation with the "ice cream chef." His "indulgences " alone will certainly initiate a timely return.
The grilled salmon brochette was tender and delicious. There was an excellent selection of ice cream for dessert. For the outdoor dining, there was live music that was wonderful. The staff was not particularly hospitable which is the reason for my lower rating in service and ambience.
We LOVE Ella! We always have fun and always great food and drinks! This time, we had the wahoo (Hawaiian fish) and the asparagus tart. Ella also has wonderful vegetarian selections.
We also enjoy the bar very much--welcoming bartenders, excellent drinks and excellent bar menu!
Very good restaurant that keeps getting better. We shared olive and biscuit appetizers and had four different entrees: steak, salmon, cheese brochettes, and asparagus tart. Each well prepared and delicious. We split an outstanding and unique carrot cake as dessert. Service was very good, despite server handling table of 12 at same time.
The crab cakes were a special the night we dined at Ella and they were marvelous; having dined on crab cakes near Annapolis, Maryland for 20 years this is no small endorsement. They were as good if not better than the crab cakes I have feasted on for years. The sides were inventive and delicious. If this is any indication of quality everything else is worth a try. We will be back. And the wine list was very good...Cakebread Chardonnay, yum!
We have been to Ella several times and it has to be said they are inconsistent with service. This time, except that we had a coupon, that we laid out on the table from the start, and the waitress rung up the bill without it and had to do it over again, the service was above average. The food is good; we had prime rib and chicken. It is always VERY NOISY. Art gallery next door is a nice touch.
My wife and I and two other couples enjoyed a wonderful evening. Even with a party of six, we were seated at exactly the time of our reservation in a booth. Our server, Chris, was friendly, helpful, and very knowledgable about all segments of the menu - wine, meals, everything. The food was incredible and the atmosphere was great. Thank you, Ella for a great evening with friends. P.S. I know it's almost spring, but please keep the Autumn Risotto on the menu - it's out of this world!
This gem in New Albany is great. I live a little north of New Albany and like good restaurants and don't mind driving to Short North, but it's nice to have an option of a restaurant with just a high caliber up north. Delicious menu and friendly staff. Recommend.
Very good food - lots of unique choices. We went kinda basic - the Burger was excellent, including their home-made BBQ chips. And while the kiddies would like the Mac-n-Cheese, it's a great adult meal too - very rich and tasty - we got the pulled pork add-on - great choice! And the Chocotini was a delightful start. We were first-timers- and we'll be back!
Love this place! Have been visiting since its opening 2 years ago. Chef Hyde's menu is creative and the food and service are consistenly excellent. Also, really like that most everything used including some of the alcohol is from Ohio, which showcases the excellent extent of the high quality products available in this rich agricultural state. New Albany is very lucky to have this little gem.
We had an excellent meal here. I currently am unable to use my right foot due to surgery and have to use a little scooter. The restaurant staff was more than accommodating making sure I got in and was seated comfortably. The food and service were both excellent. I highly recommend the mussels. I love mussels and I am very picky about them. The sauce was incredible and mussels were fresh. We will definitely return..
Unfortunately our experience at Ella's was not very enjoyable. The restaurant was very noisy and there were way too many tables crammed into a small space. The service was adequate at best, and the food was average; for the price we did not feel it was a good value, especially compared to other restaurants in the area.
We were a small group of 6 that meet for dinner on a regular basis and were looking forward to our evening. We were visiting after dinner while our server took care of the dinner tickets, and we were encouraged to leave by the hostess. She informed us that there were customers waiting to be seated.
That will be our last visit to Ella's.
Our first experience was very positive at this local gem. it's attached to an art gallery which makes it unique for a suburban restaurant. We were a bit surprised to discover they did not have a full menu on this particular date (prix frixe) but we're adaptable types. The only real downside was not being able to swap out courses between the four and five course options. Again, not a deal breaker by any stretch. Very busy (to be expected on Valentine's Day) but the atmosphere was still intimate enough to enjoy conversation with wine. The wine list is fairly extensive with plenty of selections from Ohio-based vineyards. Service was prompt and efficient, and food was excellent. Great little place and can't wait to try their full menu!!
I took my wife to ELLA for Valentines Day and because of the weather we were almost 30 minutes late getting there. The owner and his mother took great care of us and found a table in a reasonable length of time. I can honestly say my wife enjoyed browsing about the art gallery and fortunately I got out of there without hurting my wallet. We both selected the 3 course meal, most items were delicious however the Sea Bass was inconsistently cooked. I contributed that to the number of people eating at the same time. Like most high-end restaurants I feel there is an over use of cheeses and mushrooms in there dishes. There was plenty of variety to select from, we will go back!
We have eaten at Ella many times, it is our favorite! The menu for the Valentine Special Dinner was incredible. Chef Hyde out did himself. I told everyone that the meal ranked in my top 5 meals of all time. We have eaten in some of the best resturants in the world and this ranked up at the top. Cudos to Amy, David and Chefs!!!!!
