The food was quite good! However, when I ordered my bottomless brunch, I was given a glass that clearly had soap residue on it and tasted of soap. Upon examining my friends' glasses, a few others also had soap residue on their glasses. While the Ella's staff quickly retired the glasses and re-washed them, there was no offer to extend our hour-only bottomless brunch while we waited for the glasses to be cleaned (since they cleaned all of the flutes, it took a while), and we were charged full price. This left a literal and figurative bad taste in my mouth. While the service was pretty good and so was the food, I will not be back to Ella's based on this experience.
Such an awesome place to grab dinner and drinks with a friend! The food was fantastic and the restaurant was beautifully decorated. I went to share tapas with my sister and we both had a wonderful time. Would absolutely recommend!
I keep coming back to Ella and, regardless of the time of day/type of meal, I am never disappointed. Great food at a reasonable price (by Manhattan standards)!
We went to Ella's after reading reviews on Yelp. Ella's did not disappoint. We ordered 4 tapas for 2 of us which was ample for us
We particularly liked the avocado tartar with feta and kofte sliders. Wait staff were pleasant and efficient. Prices were reasonable. Noise level was a little high but we were still able to have good conversation. We will definitely be going back.
First time visit, but would definitely go back. The food was interesting and really good. One member of our trio is a vegetarian, and there were plenty of choices for her. The only downside was the noise level (from a large table), but that wasn't Ella's fault!
The Drunken Mushroom Burger is my favorite burger in NYC!
Cute and cozy neighborhood restaurant. Food is pretty good but portion for some dishes is way too small for the price compared to other tapas place. Also drinks (both cocktail and wine) need to be little more generous with pour.
We had a lovely dinner before the theatre. I am not sure what was best; the food, the service or the atmosphere. We had Tapas, 5 was perfect for the two if us. They where all tasty, spices well balanced. We had fish, meat and mushroom. With a nice glass if Cava. Would definitely come back and recommend for others.
Neighborhood Gem ...always love a visit to Ell'a's...never disappoints
I thought it was lovely but rather expensive, particularly the mushroom croquettes were too teeny a portion. Enjoyed all the food, the avocado, the empanadas and the wine recommendation was excellent.
The food was a wonderful collection of small plates. Truly a caring and attentive staff just minutes from the Beacon. Would definitely return.
Great atmosphere and food was very good! The Spinach salad was delicious!
Looked for a place close to the Beacon theatre. Cute place went early so not many people there. But filled up quickly by 7pm. Get the the Tapas. And plates were not that small. Shrimp was good - my wife had the octopus - was good but very large portion, and pretty rich. Must have gotten a left over it was hard to finish. I made the mistake by looking at reviews how good the mushroom burger was. It’s a Tapas place. Don’t get a standard $18 burger and fries. Also note we were seated at 6pm to enjoy our time before the show. The bar has happy hour - only at the bar. Very small bar. But the drinks are below half price. I’d go back and do the happy hour. I hear the Tapa is limited at happy hour, but did not check that menu. The dinner tapas menu looked good, I’d try some of the other dishes. Sangria red. Was decent but a small glass for what it cost. So I’d go happy hour for drinks. 5-7 however.
This place is a staple - always great vibe, tasty food, awesome drinking scene and casual meet ups. This is one of those places that since you arrive you get in a good mood.
We had lunch at Ella Kitchen & Bar before a Saturday 2pm matinee at Lincoln center. We had not realized that they only serve a brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday, but there were still good options for those more inclined to a lunch offering.
The food was very good. We were impressed that the service staff were very on top of things, and as they knew we needed to leave on-time to get to Lincoln Center, they made sure our food came out quickly and we were served expeditiously.
It was our fault that we were a few minutes late arriving, and our table had indeed been given away, so we were seated outside by the sidewalk - which turned out to be quieter than inside (good) and was fine as the weather that day was really great.
Obviously this is a popular venue. Suggest early reservations and prompt arrival.
Main problem we had was the breakfast potatoes, which definitely tasted of pork. My partner and I are both vegetarians and grew up not eating pork, so we immediately set the potatoes aside. When we explained this to the server, he was overly-adamant there was no meat. As if the universe herself heard us, a customer from the neighboring table chimed in and explained she was also raised not eating meat and always orders something in place of the breakfast potatoes here because they have a pork residue. We weren’t upset, just annoyed at the initial pushback. Plus, breakfast potato are our favorite part of brunch. Warning to all vegetarians hoping to order breakfast potatoes, this may not be the place for you!
Lovely little place with good ambience, nice staff, sweet location -- some of the dishes are very good, but some use canned substitutes for fresh ingredients, which is a disappointment (my "roasted red peppers and tomatoes" were directly from a can or a jar, and made the bread underneath it soggy).
Good experience— great food
Super delicious — everything we ordered. Brussel sprouts. Salmon burger. Greek salad.
Much too loud indoors for elderly like us, but pleasant outdoors. Four tapas were about the right amount for two of us. The ones we chose were tasty.
Best restaurant in the neighborhood. Perfect in every way. Five stars for all
Love this place! Neighborhood staple
Great place, great food, great service! I highly recommend this restaurant. One of my favorites in New York.
The food was amazing. The service could have been faster but it was great experience overall. The food made up for everything.
Great selection of different foods to share, all very good! It was very loud inside, so expect to shout to whomever you’re with if the restaurant is busy (we ate around 9PM on a Friday).
The food was good but the service was bad. We had to call waitress over every time to get service vice.
Love this place!!!! I've been here for work, for play, or to relax. It never lets me down.
As always, the food is just incredible, we were almost licking the plates. The drinks are also terrific. My only hesitation is the acoustics are not great so the noise level is high. Otherwise, love everything about this place!
Tasty tapas and friendly, attentive service
Excellent tapas, especially the empanadas and mushroom crepes. The patatas bravas seemed more like a baked potato than with that great crispy texture, so I don't think I'd order that particular item again. But overall, an very nice experience at a reasonable price.
Tapas were outstanding. Waitstaff could have been more attentive. Entrees (both Paellas and the Veggie Burger) were unremarkable.
Great “local” that we are glad we found! Reasonable price with different, authentic food and great service. Definitely coming back for tapas at the bar.
Ella Kitchen and Bar has been a neighborhood favorite of mine for many years. Although the food has always been consistently very good, the service has become questionable. Better training is in order if staff think it’s ok to remember half an order, deliver plates without silverware on the table, not offer condiments for toast, serve milk that is obviously spoiled, and curdling or place 4 large platters on a high top that can only accommodate two. The level of thoughtlessness is unacceptable. In addition, the last two times we have dined here, we observed there are more annoying flies in the dining room than there are outside. I now am questioning the cleanliness of the place.
Terrible food. This is an insult to Spanish food. Their "bravas" were the worse... will definitely not return
Good atmosphere - bustling but not chaotic. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered 4 tapas. Kofte sliders were delicious as were the Ella empanada and shrimp ajillo. Bravas were very good, but we prefer them a little crisper and with more sauce. Paired off with a generously poured glass of cava, it was a perfect summer dinner. We love this place and will definitely be back.
Service very attentive Leo the best service and the manager very friendly back soon to Ella thanks food the best tasty
Nice setting with indoor and outdoor tables and our server was attentive. That said, flies were present while eating indoors. Menu had a wide variety of tapas. Burger was good while gazpacho was ok - creamy base which was not disclosed and bland flavor. Grilled octopus was not cooked properly - tough exterior while mushy interior. Disappointing meal compared to reviews.
This place is amazing. We had the skirt steak and salad and fries. Delicious! I also liked their sangria.
Ella Kitchen and Bar is a very pleasant tapas style restaurant a short walk from the Beacon Theatre. The menu has lots of options including many vegetarian friendly choices. The small plates are excellent including the olive selection, empanadas, guacamole ‘tartare’, chorizo, and many others. Service was friendly in the busy room. Noise level is a bit elevated in the cozy seating but manageable. We’ve now dined there twice and all in all a really nice place to grab a bite on the upper west side.
Neighborhood gem. Great food and attentive service
