Elk Ave Prime Ratings and Reviews
Our server, Bob, was extremely friendly and attentive. Everything came in a very timely fashion and he got us everything we needed without having to ask a second time. Their house whiskey sour was amazing and they had such a great menu it was hard to narrow down what we wanted. He even put a candle in my boyfriend’s dessert for his birthday! The ambiance was the perfect little Crested Butte cabin with a modern swankiness. Can’t wait to come back.
Our friends have recommended Prime multiple times, so we thought we would finally try it out for a special birthday celebration. While the french onion soup was delicious, the crab stuffed devil eggs had too many flavors competing. My lamb chops were too chargrilled to taste the wonderful flavor that lamb usually holds, but my husband's duck was nicely done. Thus, it was a 50 percent hit rate that did not warrant the very large bill that came at the end of the night. Therefore, I would not recommend Elk Prime.
We had the brussell sprouts appetizer and bacon which were delicious! The sour dough bread was soft but crispy on the outside. Just perfect! The steaks, trout and salmon dinners were delicious, appropriately cooked to our liking, and the ambience is very cozy.
Bob, our server, was exceptional!! The kids sat at their own table next to the fire. Loved it.
We had reservations @ 5:30, arrived @ 5:20 & were told we’d have to be waited to be seated, we could go to the bar which was loud or come back; we opted to return in 10 minutes. We were seated. Though the wine list was extensive it was also very expensive & overpriced. We know restaurants mark up wine, typically 30-45% but 80%? We knew several vintners & vintages & these were 60 & 80 % higher respectively. Needless to say, we drank water! We ordered elk & asked for & paid for a Cabernet sauce on the side in lieu of the Holllandaise sauce but it was served with the Hollandaise..... can anyone say food allergy?!?!?!?
It was returned & another dinner was served. We’ve eaten elk at numerous other steak houses in ski towns throughout Colorado & all were more tender, a larger portion & at a lower price point.
If you want a tasty meal, a solid wine list, & friendly service go across the street to Django’s. If you want exceptional customer service , an interesting hip vibe, great food @ a great price go to Secret Stash, if you want ripped off go to Elk Ave. Prime.
We were in Crested Butte on vacation and celebrated our twins' 21st birthday at Elk Avenue Prime. The staff was exceptional, attentive without being obtrusive. Menu was wonderful and the wines were outstanding. I love the atmosphere and found it the perfect spot for a celebratory dinner.
From the time we entered the old wooden doors, we realized this was a great place. The server, Jacob, was very well spoken and informative about the menu. Quick service kept the little one from being bored. I had the buffalo(for the first time ever) and my girlfriend had the 10oz filet. Both were some of the best meats I have ever tasted. We will be coming back here to sample the rest of the menu.
Everything was fabulous, but the only issue was everyone in the restaurant was wearing their jacket because it was so cold inside. For such a nice and pricey restaurant, I would think you’d keep the room temperature a little more warmer so that people could feel a little more comfortable to take their outdoor jackets off and just relax.
Other than that, we absolutely LOVED everything about the restaurant!!! We’d definitely go back!!!
We were there for very small (3 adult, 2 kid) wedding reception dinner. Our waiter brought us complimentary flutes of champagne and offered his congratulations, which was very nice. The menu offered a great (and not overwhelming) selection. Our kids ordered steak off of the kids menu and it was a generous portion and tasted wonderful. The ambiance was casual, but suitable for a special occasion. The only thing that could add to the ambiance would be some candlelight at the tables. We had a lovely experience and plan to return.
We dined at Elk Avenue Prime while visiting Crested Butte in the fall. My husband, in particular, likes Elk and other game, and Elk Avenue Prime had good reviews. Despite the restaurant being very crowded when we arrived, we were seated promptly and our waitress was friendly and helpful. The Elk Steak was large and very tasty, and the special wagyu beef entree was also excellent. The only reason I did not give the restaurant a 5-star overall rating is that it is quite pricey, particularly for a small town like Crested Butte. I think it would help if the menu included some smaller steak entrees too.
What an incredible place for a dinner! We were in Crested Butte this weekend for my 60th birthday, and wanted something special -- we certainly got that at Elk Avenue Prime. The steak and sides were perfect, the wine choice was perfect (although we had to hide our bottle from the Vinotok participants when they came into the restaurant!), and the desserts were out of this world. I had the Paonia Cherry Cobbler and it was outstanding.
