Eli’s Table Ratings and Reviews
I wanted this to be great like the last time we were here. My husband’s steak was over cooked and in all fairness they did it over. My duck was totally over cooked but I didn’t want both of us to complain, so I didn’t. They took the appetizer off the bill which was fair. In all it wasn’t a great dinner for either of us.
My wife and I have been to Eli's Table a dozen times over the years and we have always considered it an above-average restaurant. But Monday night, December 11 was our best experience yet. The food was better than ever -- she had the shrimp and grits, I had the duck. The duck was on the menu as duck and waffles. I mentioned to the waiter I liked duck but did not care for waffles, so the waiter had the chef fix a plate of duck and roasted veggies just for me!
My personal experience at this restaurant was good; however, I would like to share some specifics regarding the food, service and table seating location. Food was good, very nice presentation; however, the taste of my food choice was not to my expectation. The taste was spacier as I normally like on my food. Regarding the service, overall the server did a fair job; it seems he was new or recently hired, because showed nervousness, and did not have all the answers (at least) I was hoping he would have regarding some of the menu choices offered. Finally, the location of the table was not what I had in mind. My goal was to have an early Christmas dinner with my two best friends, and requested a cozy location next to a window, nice table setting with at least a candle ... instead, we were seated in the patio on a plain metal table ... although nice, it did not meet my expectations. Despite all my previous comments, I would go back to this restaurant for a second chance.
Beautiful, quiet, quaint restaurant serving excellent cuisine! The Bacon Infused Bloody Mary is not to be missed by any fans of Bloody Mary's. Spicy, savory and delicious.
The Fried Green Tomato Napoleon was simply outstanding.....crisp, seasoned tomato slices sandwiched between excellent pimento cheese, all on a bed of tomato coulis....the perfect appetizer to begin the dining experience at Eli's Table!
We were warmly greeted and the wait staff was very attentive. We had breakfast and the food was absolutely fabulous (ok.....MAYBE my soft boiled eggs could have cooked for 15 seconds longer but trust me, that's being incredibly fussy....the food was GREAT!) I'd go back there to eat w/o hesitation.
We had a 7:30 reservation for Thanksgiving but were not seated until 8:05. The hostess was rude and unapologetic for our wait. The service was subpar-I had to ask for my drink to be refilled numerous times. The restaurant had run out of bread and several other menu items. Overall, a very pricey, unpleasant dining experience.
We had a reservation and were seated very quickly even though it was a packed-to-capacity holiday evening... kudos to Eli's Table. Food quality was excellent and waiter/kitchen were graciously accommodating of side-item substitution requests. Appetizers, entrees and desserts all arrived with appropriate timing and attractive presentation. Our waiter's demeanor while pleasant was clearly more a task vs. service orientation but given the number of people waiting to be seated I'll have to cut the staff some slack for being a bit harried. Go to Eli's Table... and save room for the bread pudding!
Thanksgiving Dinner. Trip Advisor had advertised a 3 course meal but when we arrived, it was only turkey and two sides - no pumpkin pie for desert. The restaurant was overwhelmed with customers waiting for tables - no one available to clean and set up tables. Waited one hour to be seated in spite of reservations. Charleston has a serious problem getting help in restaurants. Would not return to Eli's Table.
We booked here for 3pm for Thanksgiving Day. There was a special offering for turkey dinner, but other options included choices from the regular lunch menu. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes Napoleon. The selection was tasty, albeit a bit heavy handed on the pimento cheese in my estimation. Lunch entree for me was a crab cake over arugula and grape tomatoes, which was light and delicious. Hubby chose Tenderloin Medallions served with kale and fingerling potatoes. The meat was cooked perfectly at medium rare.
Outside seating was not my first choice. It was comfortably heated and protected from the elements with plastic sheeting to block wind and rain and propane heaters under cover. However, the tables were flimsy metal mesh and rather unsightly. (Some had been covered with white tablecloths for the occasion, but ours was missed.) I had a glass of wine and companion had a beer. Overall, the cost of the meal was very reasonable given the occasion. We would definitely return again.
My wife and I were really looking forward to a great Thanksgiving meal together. The restaurant was overcrowded and very loud. The Thanksgiving meal was cold and horrific. The whole day was spoiled. I highly recommend that anyone reading this review never eat at Eli's table. You're wasting your time and you're wasting your money
We had reservations for Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving menu, which they were calling 'the special' for that day consisted of sliced turkey with some gravy, green beans supposedly with shallots and whipped sweet potatoes. Period.
My son ordered the regular menu option of beef tenderloin which he said was very good, but not much of it.
The server recommended as an appetizer the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese which was good.
We were seated within a few minutes and put at a table for 1-2 in front of the open kitchen. Since we had reservations, I felt somewhat insulted to be placed in a noisy, trafficky situation for Thanksgiving. When I asked the server if it was at all possible to be moved to another table, they were very quick to respond and put us at the front of the restaurant in a corner. It was a delightful spot.
Eli's table is probably a fun place to go on regular days (this was our only experience there), but Thanksgiving seemed an afterthought for them.
Love Eli's Table. However, things seemed a little off. We sat patio side. Heaters were nice for the cold but didn't go well with the rain, rain tarp (that had holes), and the arrangement of tables. Also, don't know if overbooked, but our waitress was super frazzled. Never received our appetizer, my daughter's eggswere not cooked as ordered, the biscuits were burned on top but undercooked inside (still doughy), and my pork tenderloin medallions came out as steak medallions over cooked. We never received a refill on drinks. It won't keep me from coming back but being a single mom that doesn't dine out often with my girls in really nice restaurants, was a little disappointing.
We came here for the “best grilled cheese in the country” as they are known for and it was simply not good. It tasted dry like it had been sitting for a day. The she crab soup was good and the ham and cheese croissant sandwich was decent but not up to Charleston’s standards by any means. Very disappointing.
The place was beautiful. We sat outside under the heaters which kept us very warm with the cool weather. They food was great. So interesting pairings but they worked! Our drinks and appetizers were delicious. I would recommend this to friends and family but it is not a place for picky eaters!
I made a reservation online about an hour in advance because my friend and I were having trouble deciding where to go. We were seated as soon as we arrived and were given complimentary champagne. We ordered the beef carpaccio appetizer and I just about swallowed it whole. Delicious! I then ordered the duck and waffles and my friend ordered the catch of the day, which I believe was grouper. My friend wasn’t too hungry, but devoured her meal and I did the same. Excellent! I enjoyed an elderflower cocktail that was sweet and delightful. The waitstaff was wonderful. I eat out a lot and I rarely have such an exceptional experience.
Had a birthday dinner at Eli's Table. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The outdoor dining patio is very quaint with several outdoor heaters for chilly evenings. The fried green tomato appetizer was the best I have ever tasted! The shrimp and grits were also very good. This is a place I would happily put on my list of restaurants to hit while visiting Charleston.
In our table of 4, the wine was wonderful.
Our appetizers were good as well, although one meal was undercooked ( salmon ) which was
requested medium well.
Our meals seemed to take a while to prepare..........ordinarily it would not have mattered much,
but that evening we were preparing to attend a performance.
I have dined here many times and never disappointed. On the 15th, we were entertaining out of
town guests, so I felt some dismay regarding the food preparation.
