Eli’s Table Ratings and Reviews
My family and I enjoyed Elis Table, very cozy restaurant with nice outdoor seating area. The food was only good, by Charleston standards. Waiter was young, perhaps new, and was not particularly familiar with the menu, or skilled at knowing when to check on the table and when not to. So, service was very average. In most cities, I would say that Eli's table was very good, but in Charleston, just ok.
The food was very tasty. I had the shrimp and grits and it was very good. The portion was small for the price, my opinion. My wife was just ordering a salad. A beet salad. Our server suggested a side of salmon with the salad. It was a great suggestion. The salad was maybe four bites. Tiny. The salmon was perfect.
The food took over an hour to be served. They apologized for the delay. The kitchen got slammed with everyone ordering at the same time. It was busy and I understand that does happen. They also apologized for being out of bread. We were told it was the day after Valentine’s Day and they ran out yesterday. That I don’t understand. Worst case you go two blocks to Harris teeter and get bread. Although it should be fresh everyday.
All in all the place was very comfortable and the menu is interesting and what I had was very good If you are not very hungry and want to try some good tasting food you will enjoy Eli’s Table.
We had heard good things about Eli's Table and were looking forward to dining there. Unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to our expectations from some of the reviews we had read.
We started with the Gruyere cheese fondue which was actually quite tasty. We thought that we were in for a treat with the rest of our meal, however that wasn't meant to be. One of my wife's favorite dishes is Shrimp and Grits and she has tried that dish in many southern restaurants as well as having made it at home. We had heard that Eli's Table's Shrimp and Grits were award winning, but in my wife's opinion, they were the least favorite of all the one's that she has had. She said that if those were voted the "Best in Charleston" as our waitress had mentioned, she didn't want to try them anywhere else during our visit. I had the half chicken dish and while the chicken itself was ok, the mashed sweet potatoes were pureed to the point where they looked and tasted like baby food while the one stem of broccoli tasted as if it had been burned.
While other guests nearby us received complimentary champagne, our waitress never provided us with any. When it was time for our check, she ran our credit card and brought us the bill back to sign but with no pen to sign it with, then she disappeared for the next ten minutes before we had a chance to ask her for a pen.
All in all, their attention to detail was lacking and we were disappointed in our entire experience. The best thing about our meal was the warm bread brought to our table before our meal. Your experience may differ, but we won't be back.
Would not recommend. We waited 30min for our breakfast, people that arrived after us were served before us. The resturant was not busy.
The sweet potato pancakes were so burnt they couldn’t be eaten. (See photo)
The service was terrible.
Won’t go back there again.
Waste of money.
So much fun! Started our meal with a complimentary glass of champagne... so good. Being a vegan, they were more than accommodating. The chef created a vegetable risotto. It sounded so delicious that my non vegan friend ordered the same thing. It was a amazing. Jake and Chad were our waiters. They were delightful.
First time here for dinner; been for lunch several times. I didn't feel that it was up to its usual standard. To start, the hostess left us standing in front of her for a few minutes while she was doing something on her computer. When she did acknowledge us, she had a very sour look, and never smiled. Our waiter was very friendly and funny, but not very attentive. He forgot our bread, and the coffee that was requested. I had the salmon. It was just ok. I will certainly come back and give it another chance. I hope this was just an off night.
Parker was our waiter on outside porch dining area. He made everything special from the unexpected champagne to how great the heaters were placed to make dining outside a joy on a possibly chilly evening. We were pleasantly surprised by a additional salmon dish "taste" before our meal.
Everything was excellent!
When we first arrived and noted how the servers were all dressed up in white shirts, black vests and black pants - we thought that we were walking into a great place.......... We were seated almost immediately - but then that's when the honeymoon stopped. After placing our order for drink and dinner, we received our drinks 40 minutes after we had ordered them - with no explanation as to the delay. Appetizers came out shortly after the drinks, and they were good. We then waited another 40 minutes after our appetizers before the main dish was served. Our server never removed dishes /glasses that we were finished with and never offered an explanation/apology for our food being so delayed. We had to tell the server that we wanted another drink; he did not inquire. The food was very good - but the service was terrible.
The restaurant was full and we arrived somewhat before our reservation but the staff went out of their way to make us welcome and move us to the first table that came available. It was a special (anniversary) night for my wife and I and, again, the staff made an extra effort to make our night a real celebration. The food and service would, no doubt, have been excellent anyway but we recognized and appreciated the extra effort many people made to make the evening exceptional.
We absolutely loved our time here. We did not have a reservation but by chance got seated quickly on a Sunday night! We were given a toast of a sparkling wine to celebrate our night out! It was very tasty! I was also given a complementary rose along with an appetizer to share with the table. We also ordered a couple of additional appetizers...the fried green tomatoes and the Fondue! Both were amazing! I ordered the Crab cakes and they were outstanding! Others got the Duck and Waffles, The Fillet, and The Shrimp and Grits. All were delicious. Our service and total experience was charming and personal! Will definately be back! Great job to all!!
My husband and I just ate here for the first time and had a great experience. We loved our food and had great service. I’m giving a 4 for ambiance because we were seated by the front door and a large group came towards the end of our meal and filled the entrance as they waited to be seated, which took a little away from the mood. There are many amazing restaurants in Charleston, so there is a high caliber of competition, hence the 4’s in my review. All in all the food was superb and the service was better than most. We will definitely go back!
