Modern, comfortable space. Attentive staff. Mushroom app amazing. Lamb amazing. Would definitely recommend and would we would go back!
Best brussel sprouts ever. Service was efficient and shared among staff. Lamb was very good but small shank. Wine overpriced compared to other restos.
It’s always a pleasure to dine here. The food is flavourful and inventive, the decor beautiful and the service excellent. Excellent cocktails 🍹 we appreciate the local ingredients used to make these dishes.
Wonderful as always. Amazing atmosphere and service.
A great local spot with great atmosphere and food. Wine is not bad either.
First, we have eaten there on three or four occasions, before Covid shut-down, and recently, and usually been happy. This was the fifth or sixth time overall. My wife is vegan, and on the previous occasions was well fed, with advance notice - well prepared vegetable medley, good sauces, mushrooms, pasta mixes. I am an omnivore who would eat road-kill properly prepared.
We have been quite happy with the meals prepared on the prior occasions. This time, with few people in the restaurant on a Tuesday, and advance notice about the vegan matter, we were both disappointed with the dishes served. I ordered the scallop opener, which came with four small scallops, over-cooked (obviously seared on one side longer than the other - someone not paying attention). The duck breast entrée was also over-cooked (supposed to be medium-rare but not a hint of pink), and the asparagus tips were little pieces of string. If the produce isn't up to standard, don't serve it - this is Nova Scotia - I'm certain the kitchen can come up with a suitable substitution.
My wife's meal was essentially pasta, with a pesto-based sauce. Not nearly indicative of the imagination, or effort, that was put into preparation of her previous meals. I don't know who was in the kitchen on Tuesday, but there were only 7 adults and 2 children there while we ate, not exactly a demanding situation for the kitchen. After this most recent experience, I am inclined to say it was an off-night, and give them the benefit of the doubt one more time. If it happens this way again, I will be striking Eliot & Vine off the list.
This was a disappointment.
Asked whether to recommend, I would describe the overall history and let them decide.
The halibut was delicious! Cooked to perfection. Very tasty salsa with charred veggies. I really like the crispy potato served on the plates along with leeks. The presentation was dramatic
First time back since Covid. Highly recommend
While the menu is limited, the food is always excellent and the service attentive but not hovering. I like coming here for a good meal with friends and family; conversation is easy as the restaurant is not noisy.
Great dinner and service . Happy hour oysters and house wine a bonus. Would certainly return.
Wonderful food and service!
We had the Halibut, Pesto pasta and a cheese board.
Delicious food! Accommodating with menu substitutions for ensuring a good dining experience. Great service. Relaxed atmosphere.
Awesome. Food was great. Waiter was great. Much better value than going downtown. Wanted to go for some time. Glad we finally made it.
Great food, great cocktails! Would definitly recommend this spot!
Great local choices. Server was skilled and had many good suggestions.
Really really good! A new fave! I would recommend this spot to any of my friends...
Went back because we loved it the first time. (Before Covid) The 2nd time it was an entirely different experience. Food quality and portions were very disappointing.
Great food and service. Will be back!
Always a great meal for me. Sat on the terrace on a beautiful evening. Not sure why there weren't more people? The staff is excellent. My steak frites - delicious and just right.
This was our second time at Eliot & Vine. Our meal was delicious and server excellent.
Excellent food, beautiful presentation, excellent service and great value, especially during happy hour!!!! Scallops were cooked perfectly. I thought my husband was going to lick the plate. Lol. Great dining experience and super easy parking!
Amazing food!! My sister and I are vegans and Eliot & Vine was able to accommodate us because they make everything there fresh!! Beautiful atmosphere and 5-star service. We will be back!!
The lamb shank was delicious, it fell apart as soon as my fork touched it.
Sublime Creative yet down to earth. A Halifax gem.
I have been to Eliot and Vine a few times and it never disappoints. However, on this occasion there were two problems. First, the item on the menu that 2 of us would have ordered was not available, the steak frites. What we did order was very good but they were our second choices. Secondly, the service was not efficient in that we waited a long time to both order our drinks and receive them, consistently. We would have had another had it not taken so long in between visits to the table by the wait staff. On note it was not evident whether the staff were too busy or the waiter was simply not paying attention.
So ultimately, when you can’t order your favourite meal and the service is not up to snuff, it is disappointing.
I will go back and give it another try at some point.
Small menu, not many options for vegetarians/vegans
Fantastic food. Servers were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Interesting menu with subtle twists on the expected.
Small but excellent menu. Been here 3 or 4 times now. Always an excellent meal.
Service is attentive but not distracting.
Thanks for the review BillY! We're glad that you had such a good experience. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Friendly, helpful staff; inventive, accommodating kitchen re food allergies.
Delicious food and warm ambience.
Hi, Valquaire. Thanks for the review and we're so happy to hear about your experience. Hope to see you again soon!
We enjoyed food, service and prices although there were constructions going on nearby when we seated on the patio.
Their happy hour deal is super good with fresh oysters and local craft beers.
This is my second time in the last 2 weeks, and in both times we were served stable quality of food AND of course stable quality of services.
Thanks for the review TomokoM! We're so glad to hear that you had a good experience. We hope to see you on the patio again soon.
One of the best food ever I had in Halifax. The highlight was the red wine
Hi RezaM, thanks for leaving a review. We're so thankful for your praise and happy to hear that you had such a good experience. We hope to serve you again soon!
Waitress wasn’t wearing mask, never apologized when mistakes were made with our order and actually got mad at us for “ordering wrong”
So sorry you didn't have the best time while dining with us. Customer service is very important to us and a top priority. I hope you'll try us again. Masks are on. Stay safe! ~ Johanna Eliot
Always a lovely time at Eliot & Vine. The service and food are top notch.
Thanks SarahA for leaving a review! We're happy to hear about your experience and hope to see you again soon.
We have been here several times and always had excellent experience. We had an 8. 15 pm reservation on Saturday 18th and upon arrival we were seated right away. The restaurant was moderately busy. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio, Ribs for appetizer, Halibut and Rib Eye for main course. It took almost half an hour for our appetizer to arrive and our wine was starting to get low. It would have made a big difference if there was something to snack on or if they do bread service. Ribs were really good. Halibut and steak arrived, Halibut was very well presented and tasted really good however the steak was a total disappointment. We ordered it medium and it came almost well done. We saw the steak people were having next table and it was thick and medium. Our steak was the size of a hamburger. Above all that, the sauce over steak was SUPREMELY salty. The fries were super salty, the 2000 island dressing came with the steak was super salty. I think in the kitchen, they should pay attention to consistency and reduce the sodium level to less than half of what they used in our dish. Our server was very friendly and accommodating.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We really appreciate it very much as we strive to make every visit the very best it can be. I will share with the chef and servers your comments. Our menu is small so we aim to make every choice super pleasing. Hope you will give us another try soon. ~ Eliot&Vine
A lovely place where you can have a conversation over a perfect dinner. Lamb dish was amazing. Excellent cocktails
Food was wonderful, staff was knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Great atmosphere and very clean. This was not our first visit and it won’t be our last.
I always love my visits to Eliot & Vine. Amazing service, incredible food and that buck a shuck happy hour, so good!
First time eating here for our Anniversary, it did not disappoint. Started with the Little Neck Clams, they were very tasty in a Coconut Thai Curry, just spicy enough. Both my wife and I had the lamb. It was the best we've ever had, period. This may become a regular haunt...….
Thank you for leaving us a review, AtholC! We are so happy to hear your first experience with us was a great one. We look forward to seeing you and your wife again soon!
Oysters Caesar salad and mains were all excellent. The mignonette for the oysters was lovely but I did find The house hot sauce a bit too overpowering for the oysters. The salad was fresh and crisp with a nice lemony bite. The halibut was perfectly cooked the roasted potato nice a crispy and the accompaniments of artichoke purée, corn and red peppers with this dish had wonderful flavours.
Appertizers and Mains perfect, cocktails were fun, wine lovely but the service was excellent. A little COVID quiet but we are getting to enjoy that more and more about dining out. We will certainly be coming back,
Thank you for leaving us a review, AndrewD! We are so happy to hear you had a great night with us, and we hope to see you again soon.
