There is way too much to write about what went wrong with what should have been a nice dinner and evening out at Elia. It was our first time there, and it will be our last. Service was deplorable. Staff was friendly but, for the most part, failed. Food was okay at best.
authentic and delicious
The food was delicious and it's a byob! Will definitely be returning.
The food was delicious, everything came out perfectly! The spreads are amazing, the feta and eggplant ones are my favorite. The only thing is it’s a bit bright in there so it’s not a very intimate setting.
We had a good meal over the holiday season. We were the ONLY people in the entire restaurant. The portions are BIG. The lamb kabob was great while the chicken and pork were good. We loved a feta cheese in phylo dough with honey. However the big miss was the octopus. It was a huge serving but grossly overcooked and chewy. The waitress was very cordial. However at the end of the meal it was surprising that since we were the only people in the entire restaurant that i literally had to go the the reception area to ask for the check because she was MIA.
Overall, we suspect that the main chef was not working that night accounting for the glitches but it was a nice and better option compared to other local greek restaurants like Arpeggio .
We loved our meal! My husband and I went to Elia before a show at the Keswick. The waiter, a native Greek, was fantastic and spot-on with his recommendations. We shared the grilled octopus, which was perfectly prepared, and three-dip appetizers. For our entree, we shared a whole grilled orata, which our waiter recommended over the branzino. It was fabulous, as were the potatoes and Greek salad served with it. Dessert was yummy. Everything was so fresh. Only issue for us is we forgot it was BYO, a nice white would have been perfect. We will not forget that next time, as we will definitely be back.
Service is definitely a bit slow but the food was very good.
Place looks nice with the updated bright ambiance compared to the former restaurant. Food was very good, but I think our appetizers may have been given to another table as it came out slightly after our meals came out. When we first got there it was Saturday night rush and the feel of the place was a bit much for me with people whipping by our table constantly. I think they may have been under staffed. But the workers were working hard and were very friendly. I will definitely go back and give it another try!
Great food with friendly service. Noisy during dinner but quiet when it geta to 8 p.m.
Eating at Elia on Saturday night was awful. We got there at 5:50 P.M. (Our reservation was for 6:00) We had tickets to the Keswick theatre for the 8:00 show. We thought we had plenty of time. Unfortunately it took almost 1 hour and fourty minutes to get our food. We had to gulp the food to just make the show. The waitress also said that she thought she had served us and that was their excuse. Furthermore, the proprietor said that if we started eating the food we would have to pay the entire bill. The whole experience was terrible. My wife could not eat the food and sent it back. Luckily they did not charge her. We were here when it was Athena and we had no problems. This place will not be around much longer if the service and the food remains terrible.
We waited for an hour and a half for our dinner one individual could not eat it tasted bad. One entree did not come out till much later and the waitress said she thought she brought it out! Never had that happen before at any restaurant. None of us will ever go back or recommend this place to anyone in our community which is very large.
Family gathering and this was perfect. They were able to accommodate one of our who was vegan and gluten free with a number of delicious healthy choices. She has a stiff pepper with potatoes and a Greek salad. I had a pasta dish with ground beef and feta. Yummy! The vegetarian Moussaka was creamy and delicious. Spanakopita was fresh and the shrimp dish cane with 6 huge shrimp. Calamari was crispy and delicious. Everything was delicious, service was very good, and the resturant was spotless.
We lived it and will be back.
We've been there 3 times and loved everything we tried. Portions are huge. Everything is fresh. We can't get enough!
The food was very flavorful! My husband had sardines for appetizer and said they were good, but his whole fish entree was very good. He doesn’t mind picking out bones, but I do. I ordered the chicken gyro platter and it was a lot of food, took most of it home for another meal! The chicken was thinly sliced and seasoned well.
We were seated inside but near the door to the patio. Cold air every time they walked in or out, even though the patio was heated. That is why only 3 stars for ambiance.
Great value for the price! We will definitely be back again!
Loved the food and the wonderful service!
Again, open table sent me a message that my reservation was canceled! Host said they didn’t cancel it.
Food was good, lots of it!
This was our first time dining at Elia and we will definitely return! The food was delicious and the service was great. The food is made to order so its hot and fresh. Everyone was very attentive to our needs. We didn't feel rushed and dined at a relaxing pace. As a heads up to anyone reading this, the chicken gyro dinner platter is a deconstructed gryro. There was loads of chicken supplied and quartered pieces of pita bread with the traditional sauce and tomatoes, etc. Other than the surprise of the presentation the meal was very good. The stuffed chicken and Moussaka were excellent! We will definitely be returning.
The food was just Okay Was hoping for better based on the many positive reviews
Nothing special at all
Perfect; wasn’t a busy night so very quiet. Lighting was a little bright though...Food was authentic, fresh and flavorful! Service was excellent!
This place is a hidden gem if you love or cook Greek food!!! I can't remember having a GYRO platter with such a nice flavor, and they give you more than you can eat. Thank you for such a great meal with such wonderful service (thank you Roula!).
I've been there twice so far and both times the food was
delicious and fresh.
Everything was great! Food was delicious, service was wonderful- attentive and pleasant! Highly recommend!!
Our sever was very nice but seemed to have difficulty understanding what we were asking for. This is a BYOB and we were looking for glasses with ice and club soda. It took several attempts for us to get this. First she brought water, then 1 tall glass full of ice, then 2 more small glasses - you get the idea. This would have been fine if the food were edible. I ordered their meatballs stuffed with feta. There were hard, dry and so overcooked that the feta had the consistency of gluey mashed potatoes. The chicken souvlaki was equally overcooked. There were four of us and there was not one meal we would have considered "good. We had show tickets so we didn't send anything back -just noted that this was one place where we would not return. Shame - they have a great location if you have tickets to the Keswick.
Good Food and friendly service
Friendly and courteous staff got waited on right away. The food was hot and delicious. In fact I had to take some home because the serving was very big. Would definitely go back.
This was was the second time. Can't wait to go back to try more of their yummy food.
Excellent good and service. We love this place. So glad Glenside finally has some delish Greek Food!
Food is good l, portions large. Nice neighborhood BYOB. Good for dinner before a show at Keswick Theatre across the street.
I went to Elia with two friends and sat outside. We ordered the Spanakopita, the stuffed tomato, and the vegetarian moussaka. All three were delicious and enjoyed by all, as we shared everything. The spanakopita was made with homemade dough instead of the store bought phyllo sheets. My friend who had just come back from a trip to Greece said this was very authentic and was similar to the way it was made there. The desserts we ordered were excellent too. The servers were friendly and very anxious to take good care of us. This is a Greek family owned business that has clearly put a lot of care and attention to detail in creating a wonderful and tasty dining experience!
If you're looking for Greek cuisine, don't visit Elia. The previous restaurant, Athena, was head and shoulders better. From the new, bright LED lights in the dining room to the sad fact that there are NO fish dishes on the menu, we could go on and on about our disappointing experience and poor food quality. We dine out at least five times a week all over the country and sadly, this was the worst food we have been served in years. The chef should be replaced with someone who knows how to prepare Greek food. Simple hummus was terrible, as was the chicken for the gyros which was shaved and dry as toast with zero flavor. The highlight was their pita bread and we were thankful for that because all of the other dishes our party ordered were not edible. Zero stars is the correct rating but it's unavailable. The owner told us he is Greek which is hard to believe because nothing about his food is is prepared well enough to be classified as Greek or Mediterranean cuisine.
Less than stellar. Oversold my ordered fish. Management reluctant to deal with very unhappy patron. Doubt I'll beback.
Sat outside on a beautiful September evening. The service was pleasant and gracious, and the food was delicious and authentic. We’ll be back.
For Greek food lovers, this is what you’ve been waiting for.
Took an hour to be served as we watched multiple tables walk out after waiting way to long. Resturaunt seemed very under prepared for their customers tonight.
Great experience! Food was outstanding and generous portions. Staff extremely nice. Got the chance to meet and chat with the owners. Will dine there again!
Very pleasant dining experience
Second time back at Elia's this time with friends who never had Greek food. They loved it. My husband and I tried a few new items from the menu. The meatball appetizer was delicious and the eggplant spread was excellent. The service was very attentive. Our waitress was a lovely young woman (I wish i could remember her name) with a slight a accent who was friendly and pleasant and made a few good suggestions when we asked about choices. Thank you all at Elia's for a lovely Saturday evening.
We had a wonderful meal. Service, ambience, food, all very very good. Food is very authentic; if you are used to just the “same old” at other Greek restaurants, here you will have a chance to have something new and different if you wish.
Elia will be going into our regular rotation.
The food was excellent, and the service was very fast. My only complaint was the harsh, bright overhead lights. Dimmed lights would greatly enhance the ambience
Everything we ordered was delicious and interesting. We were going to finish with the baklava, of course, but our waitress encouraged us to try something new so we tried TWO new desserts and both were fabulous. Despite the mostly full room, it wasn't too noisy, and although service wasn't especially speedy, we enjoyed the whole experience. Can't wait to return.
Wonderful ambience, lovely service and fabulous authentic fresh Greek food
