Elgin Public House
CHeese curds were over cooked, as were the biscuits.
SERVER WE HAD JOHN WAS GREAT .ORDERED PRIME RIB WAS GREAT WAS SPECIAL FOR SAT. WE WILL RETURN FOR SURE SERVER TOLD ME ABOUT SEVERAL LOCL BEERS AND TASTE
We love this place. The food is outstanding bucket of ribs were on spot. Our Cajun shrimp were awesome. Our server was very attentive never had to ask for anything. Would highly recommend this place to anyone!
Great menu selection. Our server was great. The decor is a bit old school and outdated, but that didn’t bother us. We will definitely be back.
Great food, just stay away from the salads. Not enough food for a meal. Sandwiches are fabulous. Always very friendly staff.
We've been to the EPH about a half dozen times now and this visit was probably the least best we've had. Not bad, but not great either.
The food was fantastic, as usual. However the service was a little piecemeal. We were sat immediately and greeted by one server who told us that another server would be assisting us, although she did take our drink order. Less than a minute later another server came by to take our drink order; we told him we already had them on the way. When server 1 came back with the drinks she took our food order, which was brought out timely by a third server. The place filled up quickly with a bunch of large tables (it was Mother's Day) so we didn't see our server (server 2) too much until we were ready for the check.
Again, not terrible, but not the best. They also shifted their daily specials so the pot roast has been moved from Sunday to Saturday.
It was a Monday night and, apparently, half-price burger night, do I would have expected it to be more crowded, but since it wasn’t, the noise level was good. I believe most of us had burgers and we all thought they were great. I like my burgers rare, and that’s what I got. Kudos to them. The service was okay. Some things were forgotten (at least two items for sure), but after a reminder to the server, they were brought to our table, who was very nice and personable, if forgetful. Considering the fact that it wasn’t crowded or extremely busy, that was surprising.
The food was really good and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely go back again.
The food was great the service was weak. I had the Friday night Fish Fry and it was very good.
I was very disappointed. I brought my family in to celebrate my birthday. Food was horrible. 3 out of 7 of us had Burnt food. 1 got a burger smothered in mushrooms and melted cheese on top of what was supposed to be on the burger. He didnt ask for mushrooms. My burger was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. And about an inch of mayo on top. Wont be back there anytime soon.
The food and service is amazing!
If you are 21 and over and looking for a quieter evening ask to sit upstairs. It is terrific. We are a little older and always sit up there. They play jazz music and the noise level is WAY lower. No matter where you sit the service is grat and so is the food. The Saturday night prime rib is delicious.
Been going to EPH for years, but disappointed in last visit. Host wanted to seat our party in high traffic entry area because balance of restaurant was "full". Lie. You could hear your voice echo in the other section because it had people seated at only 2 tables! A pleasant waiter greeted us, took our drink orders, and after waiting nearly 1/2 hour and asking for him we were told he left. The ball was picked up by a great waitress - Elise - who did not disappoint. Had the steak sandwich; expected it to be tender at nearly $18-19. It was not. Are they going through new ownership?
The food is fantastic for casual comfort food dining. They have extensive sides to choose from both comfort savories like their to die for mac and cheese or healthy food options like sauteed vegetables. It is definitely a dark cavernous pub atmosphere. The service is friendly and personable. Their burgers, sandwiches, and salads are great. They also have a delightful dollar desert. Last time I was here for the Reuben Sandwich. It was loaded with homemade corned beef melted Swiss, sauerkraut and their homemade horseradish Thousand Island Dressing. i loved it. At first I was going to take 1/2 of the humongous sandwich home, but it was so good I finished it before I could ask for it to be wrapped. Love the menu and easy dining experience.
The food was excellent. We had a large group with a wheelchair and the accommodated what we needed. Service was very good for being in a large group.
Service and the overall experience were great! I always enjoy coming to EPH, and I recommend it to everybody I know who hasn’t been there. Thanks again for the great service!
Great Food, Service, Ambiance, & Friendly Employees!!!
Prime rib was the best I ever had
We had a reservation and tables were dirty but Steve (Manager) did an excellet job of getting a table cleaned off and we had a wonderful evening!!!! Made our reservation time and service was incredible......
The food and service was amazing. Our server was very attentive and always on top of any of our needs. We were placed in the back which is more like an old VFW with the dated furniture and overall feel. I made reservations, but still was placed in the back of the restaurant. I feel that if they invested in a little nicer furniture, it would reflect their prices.
Very nice evening. Waitress was great, food was good and worth the money.
Overall the experience was good. Wr would come back and try for the burgers to see how they are
We asked for blue cheese olives in our martinis but they didn’t have them at the moment which we felt was odd because the olives were ready to be filled with blue cheese. Blue cheese was on a lot of dishes.
Convenient location in downtown Elgin. Wide variety of options on the menu in the general category of pub grub. Good beer selection. Nice atmosphere.
Our server Phil was super! I’d go back just because of his hospitality. The pretzels and Cobb salad was also delicious.
Always good food!
Dinner with friends
This place is huge. And, being that it was a Sunday when we went it wasn't very crowded. The service was great and the food was very good. I had the signature sloppy joe which was yummy. My husband had the pot roast, also very good. Our friend had the burger which he said was good.
Definitely worth a visit. I can't believe we've lived here 10 years and it took us this long to give it a try.
Fantastic food and service
Great burgers! Seated promptly! Noisy Birthday party, adjacent to us: that was ok, but kids squealing in booth behind us, while parents seemed oblivious at other table: not EPH fault: just annoying!
Has the feel of a neighborhood place but the many rooms can accommodate larger groups. Kid friendly in the early evening. For a quieter, cozier atmosphere with the same menu try the upstairs pub seating. Extensive beer/wine/cocktail menu at reasonable prices (although prices are not shown on the menu). Food options range from appetizers to salads and sandwiches to full entrees. There's a whole page of burger choices. Service is friendly and efficient - plenty of time to eat here before an event at The Hemmens without feeling rushed.
Good specials. Pre concert dinner: service was timely we did not feel rushed
I had a very pleasant lunch with an old friend at Elgin Public House this week. Good sandwiches, excellent service. The restaurant is huge and apparently is hopping in the evenings.
It really only takes ONE person to sour ones experience at a venue.
The server was neglecting our table of twelve. When I approached him he said, " I will be right with you" and proceeded to help another table. When I approached him again, he came to the table and "announced" that because it was a table of 12, that there would be a 18% gratuity.
A) That is unnecessary and rude to my guests, and
B) I am a generous tipper and you just ruined ANY additional tip over the "required" amount.
Also, when the waiter made his way to me for my order he addressed me as "Dearie"-- I quickly corrected him to NOT address me in that way.
The other servers that assisted him, were quite pleasant. But this guy, who's name I unfortunately do not remember was either having an exceptionally bad day or is naturally poor at his job. I was exceptionally disappointed.
The food here is always good. The service was great.
Elgin Public House is an Elgin treasure. This is our go to place whenever we plan an evening in Downtown Elgin. Outstanding beer selection, out of this world fried pickles, and the best burgers in town.
It was large, drafty, and empty at 5pm on a Saturday. I’m sure it was filled and hopping later on. The server was kind and attentive. The burgers were phenomenal! I had the Bleu Horse and he had the Bacon and Egger and both were delicious.
This was a recommendation from a local friend. My salad and buffalo chicken sandwich was one of the best I had in a long time. My salad was also good. We enjoyed our food.
Devin Provide us with fantastic service. We really enjoyed our prime rib and the turkey BLT sandwich.
Excellent meal and service. They lost our table and upon arrival walked us to the dining room which was already occupied. We had to settle for a table in the middle of a busy area.
With this exception, everything else was excellent.
Took my sister out for lunch she was on a tight schedule. We let the waiter know and he was super friendly and understanding the check came out with our food. Loved the food. Sooooo yummy.
