Welcome to Elephant Sushi Hayes Valley. We specialize in craft sushi and friendly service. We offer traditional & modern maki, sashimi & cooked Japanese small plates in a warm and friendly environment. Try our omakase nigiri and flaming seabass.

We are in the heart of Hayes Valley, but just off the beaten path on Grove Street.

We are so excited to use OpenTable and ask our guests to keep their time with us to about an hour and a half. Of course we understand that parties over 5ppl require more time.

Not a traditional sushi restaurant, but good quality in a sleek trendy spot. Rather pricey for what you get ($160 for 2 people with 1 drink a piece, 1 shared dessert, tip…and still hungry afterwards). But recommend if going to a performance nearby and want a nicer place to dine.

Amazing, creative sushi! The flaming sea bass was so unusual. We couldn’t quite tell what was in it-it’s more of a seabass roll with rice, seaweed shell and lots of mayonnaise than cooked seabass. We were expecting something with much less going on since most dishes are all about the amazing fresh fish. It might have been a bit over cooked - it’s finished tableside and as fun to order as the Himalayan trout on salt block-which is delicious. They could use more than one bathroom-standing in line is really a drag.

We've always loved the Oakland location and glad that we also now like this one! A little worried at some of the 1 star reviews, but none of those things happened to us on a Thurs eve (sometimes i wonder if those reviewers have a personality disorder lol). They were kind when we were 15 min late due to traffic (I called). Excellent food & service & we easily made it to our show at Davies Sympnony Hall a few blocks away.

Great choice - always fresh and the price is right in my opinion. The only gripe I have is that they seemed pretty rushed to get us out of there and turn the table (after we've been having dinner for less that 80 minutes). If they can work on having better spacing between reservations they'll have my 5 stars :).

Found Elephant Sushi on a search for good omakase in SF. The interior was trendy, industrial chic, high ceilings, open sushi bar kitchen. The sushi and food selections were definitely reasonable. Wait staff were very friendly and checked on us often. There is gender neutral bathrooms available. We ordered the nigiri omakase, few different nigiri and rolls. All tasted fresh and delicious. Recommend coming back! Good for any occasion. Space for groups, birthdays, romantic date night.

Food quality was good - esp the sushi but they were out of a few items. The service started fine but our server seemed to lose interest in our part of the restaurant. I became concerned that the kitchen may close soon and went to find her chatting with the chef. I asked if last orders were soon and she replied “yes - in a few minutes”. Told her we still wanted to order nigiri. It all worked out ok and we were not chased out but frankly I expect much better service as this is not a cheap place. Not sure if I would return - plenty of good competition in SF…

Food always good. But they had some drinks on Saturday on 86. Cool as cucumber when is one the most selling, my service took at least 4 to 6 mins to approach to the table by that Time it was almost empty. I get catch her name. She was tall skin light skin. She had her pony tail on Saturday 12/10
