Elephant & Castle - Toronto King St.
We were seated in an area of the pub that was brightly lit and had a lot of screens playing sports - it felt like a sports bar and we wanted something more romantic so we asked to be moved. The server was happy to accommodate and we were much happier with the new table. Very friendly and considerate (but a bit slow) service.
Great food. Server Tres was awesome. Try the pretzel bites appetizer.
Very nice restaurant pub, with good food, nice atmosphere that isn’t too loud so easy to talk with dinner friends. I’ve been many times, and I’ll be back again soon.
Amazing! Every time I go to Toronto, I try to eat at Elephant and Castle. The stuff Yorkshire pudding is my favourite. The service is great, as is the ambiance and of course the food. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Great for before theatre dinner. Delicious food! reservations good idea on busy nights.
Our waiter was from Ireland. He was very attentive and friendly. He was prompt in getting our drinks and food to us as we had theatre tickets. He also suggested another drink since we had plenty of time. Well done
Overall a pleasant place but the food was the worst “pub” food my wife an I have ever had. Bland dressing and gravy, rubber calamari and enough coriander in the bangers and mash to choke a horse!!!
Our food was food and came quickly, the waitress was pleasant, we paid in time to get back to work in a timely manner.
Was looking for a restaurant close to the theatre and being from out of town we are not familiar with the area. Staff very friendly and restaurant felt very homey. Food was delicious.
I periodically visit this Elephant & Castle. For a chain pub, they do a good job. This store has a nice atmosphere, though it can get pretty crowded at times. Overall food is generally good. Typical of most North American restaurants, they could stand to reduce portion sizes by about 1/3 and do the same with the price. Worth a visit for a drink or dinner.
We went on new years eve, first time there, the food was pretty good, drinks were great, it wasn't too loud, the service was friendly and frequent
Busy atmosphere, a bit crowded. Food reasonably priced, excellent selection of beers (seasonal and regular), fast friendly service. Bathrooms a bit inaccessible (which may explain why the "disabled bathroom" is used by able people). Experience spoiled by a few loud patrons at the bar using locker-room language.
We love E&C, we went for the BD of our son and had great time.
Nice layout inside. Friendly staff. Decent food. Easy location with parking close by
Very nice place, very friendly staff, with stopping to eat without having the hassle.
This was lunch with my daughter before the theatre. We were seated immediately in Paris’ section. Wonderful, friendly waitress who made our lunch that much more enjoyable. I off-handedly mentioned it was our birthdays and we received our shared dessert on the house. Food was excellent. The turkey club was amazing.
Great value especially
We needed quick lunchcbefore a concert at Thompson HALL, and it was easy to make a reservation and get a quick meal. The server was cheerful and efficient so we left well prepared for a great concert.
Wonderful lunch at a reasonable price. Excellent service especially considering the place was full.
Last year for my birthday I had an excellent dinner here, but this year for my 20th birthday I got the same dish and it was smaller, more expensive, and lacked a lot of flavour. The service was quite poor: we had to ask several times for water and nobody came and checked on us during our meal. My friends enjoyed their dishes but agree about the poor service despite the servers being kind.
Always enjoy Elephant & Castle. Ordered chicken pot pie for the first time and I thought the pastry on top was a little too thick but otherwise, very enjoyable.
Excellent service, front desk very accomodating, menu choices adequate
Had a pre theatre lunch with friends. They’ve changed the menu and taken off my favourite item so that was disappointing. Busy spot so be sure to make a reservation.
Overall great experience but we were with a couple with mobility issues. THIS FACILITY IS NOT ACCESSIBLE! We were directed to the “accessible” side entrance but even that entrance had stairs,
Been to the E&C many times and it’s always great. Our waitress was fantastic. Not sure of her name but have had her serve us on a previous visit and she is efficient, funny and friendly.
Thanks for great service
Birthday recognition was missed even though noted on the booking.
We visited this restaurant for the first time. It is conveniently located at King St. and Simcoe St. across from the Roy Thomson Hall. The food was very good and the portions were generous. Service was also very good. We started with the pretzel bites which were excellent. Two of our party had the Turkey Club on Multigrain and one had the Slum Dog (an Indian take on a hot dog) for the main. All of the dishes were tasty. We would most definitely return again.
Haven't been to the Elephant and Castle in a while and it was a great lunch. Excellent service and good food and beverage options. Love the g&t specialty menu. Definitely won't leave it as long for my next visit.
Service was timely, friendly and the server provided just the right amount of attention to our tables needs.I like a draft beer with lunch and there was a good variety of imported and domestic brands to choose from. The menu had a good mix of traditional pub grub and current food trend favourites to choose from so everyone had a good variety of choices.I think the pricing for food and beverage was reasonable and certainly competitive for Toronto core restaurants. The noise level was good in that we could converse and hear each other without having to raise our voices and repeat ourselves.
Great server! Food was really good . A little noisy for a Tuesday at 5pm. Convenient for walking to the RTH across the street. We would go again.
Despite the crowd, the service was terrific...our server was pleasant and patient, and warm and friendly.
I was especially grateful that, despite the typical pre-theatre crowd chaos when I arrived, the pleasant young woman (who looks like Joni Mitchell) had the presence of mind to remember I mentioned it was my daughter’s birthday. It sure made the “old man” look good to his baby girl (34!!) when our server suddenly appeared with a decorated, candle-lit piece of delicious cheesecake (compliments of the house to boot!) at the end of the meal! She was thrilled, I was proud, and we both left for the blues concert feeling well taken care of!
Great food! Can’t go wrong with this pub! The chicken pot pie is the best! Flakey crust with lots of chicken pieces. Excellent location to theatres and Roy Thompson Hall.
Always a great place to get food before going to the theatre. Great food, good atmosphere!
I get together for lunch with a group of girlfriends once a month and our first choice is always Elephant & Castle. Great value! Great service!
You probably think that an energetic noise level is great, no it isn't. We like to be able to chat with each other at the table at lunch.
We were there before a show at the Royal Alexander theatre on Sunday Nov 24. They were very busy with theatre crowd. Service was slow - took a while for food to arrive. But was most upsetting was getting the bill was slow (had to get up and walk around to find someone to get our bill). We started at 1:40 for a 2PM show, we left at 1:55. The person who brought our bill wasn't our server and couldn't bring us the machine for a credit card.
Once we found our server she explained that they only have ONE credit card machine. ONE! The place pretty much emptied out between 1:25 and 1:50 when we left. You would think that they are better prepared for the theatre rush and have multiple machines or servers just moving from table to table doing NOTHING but cashing people out. The fact you have staff who can get me a bill, but not the machine (and there were several - as I spoke to 3 while searching for my server), but only 1 who could is not acceptable.
I would not recommend this for theatre goers. We'll go back to Il Fornello's - they are much more prepared for the theatre rush and often ask if we'll take our bill now/not ordering anything else shortly after the food arrives.
P.S. I had included on my reservation for 12:15, that we were going to the theatre. That information went NOWHERE! The greeter didn't know it. She couldn't/didn't pass it on to the server.
Honestly you should not carry salads on your menu if you can't make a decent salad. Difficult for a vegetarian to eat here and enjoy a meal.
Good food and nice pub atmosphere. Service was excellent. Try the ale and onion soup.
Great place for after a theatre show or symphony.
Great food service, and specials - convenient, too!
