Elephant & Castle - Chicago Wabash Ave.
Since 1977, Elephant & Castle has rolled out its well-worn welcome mat to anyone and everyone looking for a cracking good time. Whether that means cheering on your beloved team or chatting up your mates or simply savoring fresh made eats with a bit of jolly old England folded in here and there, this is the pub where you get your brit on.
good location for Chicago Theater events. Good food & drinks.
Excellent, my wife and enjoyed it. Will definitely return and recommend
I wish I lived closer to this establishment as I would love to have this be my neighborhood hangout.
Even though the restaurant wasn’t very full, we were seated right next to the kitchen. We made a reservation through Open Table and they said we didn’t show up, even though we were very much there. They got one of our meals wrong. It was just an okay experience.
Chicken was rubbery and tasted bad. Two of o our party had a stomach ache after eating here. Will not return
Had the fish and chips. The fish was tasty and was a nice, light batter.
Very busy and noisy. Trouble with the London Pride kegs meant slow delivery of beer. Overal quality of food was good.
Our server was very accommodating. The food was delicious. I would definitely go back.
Fish and Chips at the recommendation of our waiter. EXCELLENT!
Loved this restaurant and bar! It was a great atmosphere to chat with friends in an upbeat but clean bar. The food was delicious as well. Definitely going back.
We picked some place close to The Chicago Theatre and it was a wonderful surprise how great the food and staff were.
We loved our dinner at E & C! Because of the ability to make a reservation easily in the open table app, we arrived and were seated immediately at a table by the window. The server was wonderful and knew the menu really well. He was able to answer all our questions and suggested some items. The menu has something for everyone. The pretzel bites and beer cheese was spectacular! My friend had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and I ordered the chicken pot pie. It was unique with a rich base and soft chicken and vegetables. The goat cheese and cranberry salad was excellent. Wonderful comfort food for a chilly evening in the city. I would return to E & C in a heartbeat!
Waitress and service was excellent! Food was very good. Food prices were very fair!
Great dinner with a friend. We sat by the fire and enjoyed Happy Hour apps and then a tasty supper. Great pub like atmosphere in the heart of town.
My companion had to cancel and I was held up in bus traffic in a very cold night, but they called me to reconfirm and kept my reservation! Shepherd’s pie and salad were great comfort food!
All the entrees were good. Portions were righr-sized, not too much or too little.
Loved this restaurant! Great ambience, good food & excellent service. Will definitely be going back when in the city!
Family friendly comfort food. Affordable, particularly if you are bringing kids before or after a show.
Great value restaurant well placed in Chicago. Arrived about 10-15 minutes ahead of my reservation and was seated immediately. Staff was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Food was good I recommend the London Cheesesteak or the bangers and mash. Pricing is fair. Plenty of beer and cocktail choices. Food comes out a tad slow and seating is a bit cramped but otherwise and good place.
Dined at the Elephant and Castle prior to a concert at the nearby Chicago Theatre. It was a chilly night, so I appreciated that we were seated near the (gas) fireplace. Service was prompt and efficient. Food was decent - typical pub grub. My wife had the lamb burger that was quite good. The chicken pot pie was acceptable. Decent selection of domestic and imported beers of draft. Nice to see London Pride available, although served too cold.
AMAZING bread pudding!
Went to a show
We realize this is not the establishments fault but the noise level exceeded normal. Not due to a game on tv but misbehaving patrons. Loud cursing and disruptive behavior at 6 pm on a Saturday was disappointed management did not acknowledge or address.
Great place for a pre-theater dinner....wonderful comfort food.....great service...Susy took good care of us.
Very good shepherd's pie and great service. Wed go again
Good food and quick service. Very noisy though, especially at the bar, so it's not so easy to have a conversation. It's very close to the Chicago Theater, so it's a good choice for a pre-show dinner.
I keep hoping I'll like this place but every time I'm disappointed. It's not bad...but it's also just not good. The food is always mediocre.
This is a place that you should not expect good food or good service. It’s a place for a beer and an appetizer that has mediocre food. The music is weirdly loud for some reason. Our waitress did not get our order right and never followed through with our request for water and additional requests for sauces.
Our waiter was great — he really hustled it and was super friendly. We didn’t even know there were happy hour specials but he made sure we knew and got our orders in before the specials ended. Really good guy.
Great place for a meal before a show at the Chicago Theater one block away. Had the feel of a English pub on a weekend night and everyone having a great time.
Food was good. Service was average, rushed in nature
They seemed a bit shocked by a heavy crowd during a EPL match between Arsenal and Tottenham on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Waited 45 minutes for our food. Slow on coffee refills. Food order was incorrect when it finally came. Food tasted fine. They adjusted the bill. Hostess was a bit...gruff, to put it nicely.
Great food, good service, kitchen rather slow, a little too loud and not the best looking place.
Had another great experience at Elephant & Castle. Love both locations in downtown Chicago, but this one certainly has a more festive vibe. New server we had who was in training, wish I could remember her name. She helped us prior to our late night show which was Ali Wong’s last one at Chicago Theater. She was super attentive, sweet, and on top of her game which was assisted by another Filipina waitress due to the high volume of the night since Ali’s earlier show brought in a big crowd wanting to cap off their night. All our servers and runners were efficient and kept on top of their hospitality with us.
Especially enjoyed the light and succulent calamari and the delicious mushroom ravioli. Shared a couple of appetizers and a main dish for a quick meal.
That and our Moscow mules were perfect for our evening which we thoroughly enjoyed. It’s definitely our go-to spot before a show. Thank you E & C!!!
My Rueben sandwich was way over cooked. Was much better on previous visit. Everyone else seemed to like their salads
Great experience at Elephant and Castle. I've been coming here for years and the food is still top notch. Great English style pub food. Our server this time was great. She checked in all the time, but wasn't hovering. Food came out quickly.
This is the best restaurant for comfort food anywhere in the Loop.
Elephant & Castle is reliably solid pub food across a number of visits that we've made. Everybody at the table got something different - from the Butter Chicken to Fish & Chips and the dishes were all hot and fresh and great. Fair pricing on the cocktails as well which makes it a steady and reliable visit every time we're in the city.
