Easter Brunch - 3 courses for $25 10am-3pm
Easter Dinner - 3 courses for $30 5pm-9pm
Sunday, April 1, 2018
Stopped in for brunch (currently on Sunday mornings only). Tried the french omelette and gnocchi as well as the kale & barley salad. The omelette was a little wet but good otherwise. The gnocchi was very well done. Salad was a good add-on.
Open table rewards was very simple.
We had the four course tasting and every dish was fantastic! I am gluten free as well and they were able to accommodate my allergy without issue!
Fine food; nothing objectionable, nothing exceptional. Just simply wasn't worth prices they were charging.
Ela feels like what you want from a neighborhood joint: above average food, and friendly service.
Always a great meal and the menu is always fresh and new. A special place
Great food with a twist!!
We went here to celebrate my birthday and we all enjoyed our meals a lot. I found the restaurant just a bit chilly, perhaps b/c of all the windows. We found the menu rather limited (there were only 15 options total, not counting drinks or desserts), but we all found delicious options among these. There was a slight push toward ordering 1 from each of 3 groupings, but we made do with just 2 from the 3 groups and that was enough. We began with drinks and I thought the mixed drinks were a bit unusual and not that appealing to me, the beers to be less extensive in range than many places these days, but we found some things we liked. I and a friend both found the starter to be quite interesting and delectable: the DIVER SCALLOP NOODLES | black truffle cream | applewood bacon | spinach | bread crumbs . I found it creamy and satisfying, pleasantly unusual. Our other friend raved about the KALE & BARLEY SALAD | roasted root vegetables | ricotta salada | walnuts | sherry-dijon vinaigrette , which I have to say looked quite tempting.
2 of us had the CRISPY ORGANIC CHICKEN | little noodle ditalini | brussels sprouts | chorizo | pecorino. I thought the amount of chicken was quite generous: 3 large and savory pieces of skinless, boneless chicken, and they liked the very tasty part underneath the chicken. I got the ROASTED MONKFISH TAIL | black rice | broccolini | chipotle-miso | 26. The portion size was just a bit smaller than I might expect for this price, but it was luscious, meaty, and had a great and slightly spicy sauce that went well w/ the fish, rice, and broccolini. We also started with some tasty, warmed bread that came with some garlic-infused olive oil. Really tasty.
We really enjoyed our meal here and were able to have a good conversation b/c it was not too loud, which is often a pet peeve of mine.
Good food and ambience overall, but subpar service, even on a quiet night. I may be tempted to try it again as the food was good, but definitely not on my must-repeat list.
Baby octopus dish and Crispy chicken roulade are fantastic!
Ela for brunch was amazing. I initially set out to date my husband Sunday after church and invited some friends after I booked the reservation on Open table. The staff at the restaurant were able to accommodate our party from 2 - 4 with no problems. I was a bit worried about the size of the restaurant because most dining areas in South Philly are typically small. This corner restaurant was bigger than I expected. Waiter was very knowledgeable of the oysters/menu. Bottomless chicken and waffles were definitely a treat. Waffle came out a bit overcooked the first round. We asked for a small adjustment and the next 2 rounds of waffles were superb. I looked forward to dining again at Ela. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
I went for valentines day (well the saturday after). They were offering a 4 or 6 course tasting menu. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant as a whole hit just the right vibe for celebrating my first valentines day with my bf.
Very busy Valentine's Day dinner. They added a row of tables to accommodate the crowd. Kitchen and service very stressed. The roast monkfish waited under a heat lamp too long and dried out a bit. Salmon carpaccio was excellent. Wine pairings were good. Discounting for the circumstances I will give dinner another try.
We love Ela! It was our 4th time and it did not disappoint. The food is super flavorful and so delicious
We were very disappointed in the change in the menus options AND the food. We have dined here about 6 times before. We kept returning because the food was very well prepared and we especially liked the option of getting a 4 course pre-fix dinner.
We haven’t been in around a year. Last night we learned we no longer had the 4 course option. Now we had to order al’ a carte. This made the dinner far less fun and far more costly.
We decided to share a “first” kale salad plate and a “second” scallop noodles plate. The salad was quite tiny and uninspiring. The scallop dish was more generous but the sauce was too rich for my partner to enjoy.
For entrees , my partner got the strip steak and I got the cod. We both found the entrees wanting. We didn’t finish them and left the meal hungry. My cod had an overly heavy, fennel-based sauce; it just didn’t taste very good. My partner’s steak was tough and had little flavor at all.
We skipped dessert.
We brought friends with us this time. The meal was delicious. We have never been disappointed. Chef Jason is charming and came out to say hello. We have had the tasting menu in the past and it was amazing. Everyone was happy with their choices. Service was excellent.
AMAZING!!! First of there was Falanghina on the wine menu- so authentic! Secondly order the scallop pasta- UNREAL. Thoroughly enjoyed every single bite! A great experience looking forward to going back !
Very impressed with the creative cocktails and food. The scallop noodles were over the top. Very seasonal entrees. The pork loin with chestnuts was really good. Nice wine by the glass options.
I was VERY disappointed with ELA, poor service, and Very expensive my husband ordered the steak and the portion had four little slices of meat for $ 30 dollars !
Won't be coming back and would not recommend !!
Food was great as usual. Would be nice if they offered the bar menu at the tables as there are some gems on there ( I was told it was possible but was told no this time which was rather unfortunate. But food was still awesome)
Exceptional meal at Ela, as usual. Gotta love the consistency! Chefs tasting menu was excellent, well worth the price. Also a great pinot grigio suggested by the server that went really well with everything. Had been a while, need to get back sooner...
Ela is a cozy but chic restaurant in a cool part of Queen Village. They have great drinks an we thoroughly enjoyed the cheese plate appetizers. We were advised to pick one thing from each section of the menu, but it turns out the entree portion was perfect for feeling full but not overly so. The pork loin was excellent.
Small, cozy gem. This restaurant is located just south of the South Street bedlam. That said, the street is very quiet. While the building looks a little boring, the inside is anything but. It's vibrant and cozy at the same time. The food selections are uniquely original and very tasty. They also have a wonderful drink selection.
Consistently creative and delicious. Great casual bar style ambience. Tom Petty on Pandora was great. Big fans!
My fiancé and I enjoyed the food and the drinks were great
the food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful! Besides it being a little chilly inside we had a great experience! We went for brunch and everything looked so good it was hard to choose! The cornbread waffles were perfect and the caramel sauce on top was unreal. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes good food!
Our waiter at brunch was attentive and very funny. I will definitely be back at night!
The food was great from the bar appetizers to the small and large bites on the menu. Beautiful presentation. Friendly staff.
Chef Jason always creates the most creative combination of ingredients. It is always a pleasure dining at Ela. I would highly recommend!!!
you must get their signature dish, the scallop pasta. the Apple salad was also very good, as was the salmon tartare (more like a poke), the cauliflower, the octopus, and the foie gras. but the scallop pasta is to dream about.
We choose Ela's 3 course Monday night pre-fixe dinner because "3 bites" is just the right size for us. Each course was delicious and the service attentive. The half price bottle of French chardonnay we ordered topped it off, it was very good. Highly recommend!
It was ok. Portions are definitely smaller than expected and for the value. Cauliflower dish is overpriced for sure! Would also be nice to have more vegan friendly options than 1 dish on the entire menu. Server was weird about pushing us to purchase desserts even after we shared that we had a birthday cake at home waiting for us to continue our celebration and enjoy. So, prolly wouldn't go back.
Always a beautiful armosphere
Adventurous menu which made for an even more enjoyable experience at Ela. Top dishes: Diver Scallop 'Noodles', NY Strip Steak & Apple Tart - cocktails were excellent as well.
Great night, lovely food and service. The Venison addition to the menu and the Octopus were our favorites. Great cocktails too
We tried this restaurant because we were visiting someone in Jefferson hospital nearby. We did have a reservation, but they sat us at a table in between two other tables that were so close we were practically on top of them. It was impossible not to hear their conversations. Very awkward. The menu is very eclectic. Strange choices. I had the pork loin which was tasteless and tough. The Apple salad was tasty. My husband enjoyed the scallop noodles as an appetizer and he also enjoyed his trout as a main course.
We are in our 50s and the restaurant was just too new wave for us.
Chef Cichonski is a true master of his craft. Each course was more impressive than the last. We asked out completely stuffed because everything was so amazing. Definitely recommend. One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia hands down!
Ela always delivers. Monday nights are a great value they have three courses for thirty dollars.
Friendly staff, great food in a neighborly setting.
