El Toro Chino Latin+Asian Cuisine
We went to the bar first and had good cocktails. We went for happy hour, but only a few beers were included. Nothing that we wanted was included. That needs to be re-thought. Our drinks were fine and the bartender was friendly and competent. We ordered enchilada dip with fried wontons.....excellent
We stayed for dinner which included a Cobb salad and my companion had the meatloaf with yummy carrots and mashed potatoes. I would like to try this restaurant again and order other entrees. The waitresses were young and shy, didn’t seemed quite experienced. The place was half empty at 8 o’clock when we left as well as when we arrived at 5:30......on a Saturday night. I hope this restaurant flourishes. The fusion mix is really good.....
Our waitress, Tara, was awesome! The avocado hashbrowns were amazing!
We showed up on time for our reservation. After listening to the 2 hostesses argue they didn’t have a table for us, they finally took the 5 adults to a very small 4 top with a chair on the end. We suggested the other empty larger tables and were told those were saved for other reservations. They finally relented and put us at the larger table. We were waiting for anyone to approach and the hostess brought 2 glasses of water (for the 5 of us) and left. No one else ever came to the table. We finally just left. I can’t say anything about the food obviously. They also had a large group in a “private room” to the side. But they were spilling out into the middle of the restaurant. It is not a large building so this was a distraction as well. We looked around while we were waiting and not very many other people had their meals either. Maybe it was an off night for them, but unfortunately, we probably will not try this place again. First impressions and everything.
Brunch here is excellent and service is wonderful. Some of the best coffee I've ever had.
So good! Everything we had was delish!! We’ll definitely be back!
Its close and I am glad they are changing the menu, need more variety.
Everything was wonderful! A little mix up when it came to serving our table’s food with another table’s food. But it got fixed quickly! Great service and fun atmosphere, will come back!
It was just OK. We’ve dined there before, but this wasn’t their best night. It was so loud that it was impossible to carry on a conversation. Our server did her best but there were no clean glasses for our drinks so it took 20 minutes. The quest was soupey, chips were stale and entrees were so-so.
Been here 3 times and it's consistent: appetizers are delicious, but entrees are pretty terrible. It's weird that they can't quite figure it out on the entrees. At least the nachos and egg rolls are good.
The food was good. I don’t really see the Latin/Asian fusion vibe they are trying to promote. They are mainly Mexican with some American (they have meat loaf) and some Asian with very little fusion. Our server was just OK. He only had three tables he was attending to yet never refilled my water. We will give it another try.
Fusion food at it's best! Love to have this even if it's in Norman. It's worth the drive from Piedmont. Everything from appetizers to dessert is wonderful!
It was my wife's birthday so we went for a quiet dinner. The restaurant was quite nice, the food was exceptionally good. And my wife got dessert for free for her birthday. So, yeah, I'm probably biased 😁.
What an excellent find! Service and food were truly outstanding. A hidden gem in Northern Norman.
We really wanted to like El Toro... We ordered the special of the day, which was to be a Latin fusion version of Eggs Benedict. Sounded awesome, but was very disappointing. There was a generous amount of shredded beef, but no hollandaise sauce--no sauce of any kind. Eggs were served on top of shredded beef (which sadly didn't have much flavor or spice) on two pancakes, which were also served dry, no butter, no jelly, no syrup. There was very little egg yoke as one egg was served broken. I asked about hollandaise sauce or possibly sugar free syrup for the pancakes? They didn't have any in the restaurant. Left most of the meal on the plate. Servers were nice and friendly, but overall very disappointed.
Love this place!
I had the special which was a skirt steak with potatoes and a roasted corn with some amazing cheese and spices. Lots of food and delicious. My date had fajitas and they were excellent also. The onions and peppers were done perfectly and the portions were enough for two meals. I didn’t have room for the chili chocolate cake but I love that dessert! Great place!
Decided to try new place for dinner while in town. Service was moderately poor. Our waiter was prompt seating me prior to the rest of my party then did not come back for 15 minutes. I asked another server to take my order for a cocktail, which she was happy to do. Food was moderate tfare and the meats seemed to be frozen stored and not much flavor. The Asian Nachos were the best thing we ordered. Huge serving and great flavor. Not very busy on a Thursday night so would have expected better service. Not sure if will go back.
Superb! Our first visit. Interesting choice of flavors for the cocktails as well as our entrees. Management offered a dessert to share for our 23rd anniversary. It was a nice gesture and wonderfully accepted.
The peach margaritas are awesome & the live music wasn’t overdone. First rate.
Husbands 55th birthday family dinner. First time dining for all except me: big hit, although had to explain the Latin / Asian connection.
I reserved a table at El Toro Chino for a gathering of four couples, longtime friends with a range of hearing impairments! It was a Monday night, so perhaps more quiet than usual, but we really appreciated the quiet table where we were seated. The menu offered options that worked for everyone and the wine list was very nice. We had a great time!
Server very pleasant. Service a bit slower than usual. Food came out at different times. Slow on drinks. Overall okay.
I've dined at El Toro Chino a number of times and have never been displeased until this visit. The service was extremely slow. the tables were just over half filled but our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive. I ordered the special which had a small steak. The steak was overcooked and was a bad tough cut of meat that was impossible to eat...it could not be cut with a steak knife. My wife's meal was good and she shared with me but I was set for my choice. I brought this to the attention of the manager and she did not charge for my meal but for me the damage was already done. She offered to have another meal prepared but by now, I had shared my wife's meal and did not want an additional wait.
We had chosen to eat on Friday evening because they had always had musical entertainment in the past which we greatly enjoyed and apparently this has been discontinued...if there had been live music, the long wait would have been more bearable...
They work really hard to make it a nice experience, but the food fell a little short. The menu has interesting options but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Second time and the food was great both times
I plan on going again soon
We had a reservation and arrived on time. They seated us st a table that was completely unstable - it was rocking. We pointed it out to the hostess who then disappeared and did not address our concern. The waitress came to take our drink order. I showed her the table and asked for another table when the manager came to our table with water. I showed him the instability of our table before he placed water on the table. The manager left and returned to tell us the only option was to eat in the bar. We decided to leave the restaurant and passed three empty tables on our way out. It was a very disappointing response to a legitimate concern. I don’t know how they will remain in business if this is how they treat their customers.
Great food and service for reasonable cost. Excellent location in west Norman too. Overall it was a pleasurable dining experience.
We love the Sunday Brunch menu!
The restaurant needed to be darker, louder music, more ambiance. It felt like a Chili’s. The food was good, my salmon salad was awesome (minus the pickled jicama). Tacos were very average, beans were cold. We expected a better experience overall.
Great food! Specials are usually the best!! Service is impeccable! Favorite local for a special meal!
We spent Valentine’s Day here. The special menu was a treat. Each course was presented well and was very delicious. We had only visited this restaurant once before. It will be included in our places we frequent in the future.
The ambience was pleasing and welcoming. The food was fresh and delicious; will be coming back soon!
OU pregame with friends.
Food was fantastic! Not your typical Oklahoma Mexican restaurant. Had shrimp empanadas and shrimp tacos. Both were great. Enchilada dip is pretty special as well. We will be back!
Really enjoyed it. The music was great “John the Franklin” and my wife looked beautiful to complete the whole experience!
This was my first visit to El Toro Chino. I was very pleased. We took a party of five who each ordered a different entree. Everyone was pleased with their meal. The portions are generous and tasty. The menu provided the only frustration of the evening. It was very difficult to choose just one entree. The list is not overwhelmingly long. It's just that every one of the entrees sounded, and the five we chose proved to be, delicious. So do yourself a favor and check out the menu online before you go. The restaurant was clean and our waiter was attentive without being pushy. It was a very pleasant family night out. We were there on a Sunday evening and business looked a little slow. I have a feeling this restaurant is just waiting to be discovered.
Excellent food, diverse menu, good wine list! On this visit, we had steak and pork tacos, and their fantastic mango salsa with wonton chips. Was disappointed in the service, which is usually very attentive. Gerry Reardon is an outstanding chef and offers creative blending of Asian and Spanish fusion cuisine. A west-side hidden gem in Norman!
Everything is always so good!
Food was not very good. It seems they have tried to reinvent the wheel with some of their dishes, but it did not work. I had the "steak" salad and my wife had the brisket enchiladas. The "steak" was not steak but some kind of chopped beef, more like chopped brisket. The enchiladas were mediocre.
The waiter was annoyingly attentive, constantly interrupting us and rushing us to order.
