El Sapo Cuban Social Club
Lively, somewhat noisy, but festive place with excellent Cuban food and drink. It's a neighborhood gem and a destination.
AMAZING, delicious food in a fun, vibrant, but sometimes too noisy atmosphere.
Great food. Super fun spot. Drinks are great and fabulous service
Sooo good get the pork
We had a birthday dinner there for 6 people on Oct 11 and had an absolutely amazing time! Food was delicious, drinks were tasty, and service was awesome! We will definitely be back!
Service was absolutely appalling. We had to wait at least 20 mins for drinks, and another ten before we could snag the waitress to take our food order. Then at least another 30 mins to get our food, which arrived cold. My wife sent back her fish; 10 mins later we got back supposedly a new plate, STILL cold. The owner, to whom I complained twice, seemed utterly indifferent to our dissatisfaction and even annoyed when I asked him to take my wife’s dish off the check (which the waitress had promised to do but didn’t.) pleasing the customer is obviously not a priority at this establishment.
The Grilled Sardines were awesome!! As was everything else. We ordered many different dishes and
shared - everything was beautifully prepared and nicely served. Can't wait to go back.
A colleague and I had dinner at El Sapo on a Wednesday night. She had the empanadas and salmon entree with beans and rice and loved it. I had the grilled sardines appetizer and Taso de Chivo and both were very good. However, the sardines have fine bones. So, be careful. I also had a mojito and it was also very good. Our waiter was a bit slow in taking our order and getting our check, but was kind and very good in the middle. I think he saw us talking and may have been trying to gauge the best time to approach the table, which is understandable.
This is one of the best restaurants in the County.
Everything we had was delicious and everyone was very friendly. The only problem with service was that everything came at once, due to some miscommunication. The smaller plates were bigger than expected, so don't over order!
Booked table for 3 for 5:30 Sat. night. One friend didn't show, so offered up the table to be split so others may be seated.(No one got seated) Server was very good, but we felt rushed throughout the meal continually being interrupted by the host and server, when we were obviously in deep conversation. My friend was visiting from out of town, so we wanted to spend time drinking eating and chatting. After paying the bill but before we had finished our drinks the host told us we had to give up our table for a group of 3. She told us to sit at the bar outside where there were 2 seats, but we weren't dressed for outside and the heaters weren't on. We didn't feel like we had a choice to move and there was no offer or incentive given, which would have helped and been good customer service. We begrudgingly gave up our table and went to the bar for a short time. The bar tender listened to our story and served us a shot of something delicious which we appreciated. It's a great restaurant, I've been several times, and will go back again, but the host should find different ways to encourage clients to give up a table.
We had terrific cerviche and fair empanatas to eat.
Ok place but ridiculously loud at rush hour. It’s impossible to hold a conversation without screaming across the table. I’m not talking about making it totally subdued but they should do something to reduce the noise to a moderate level. I don’t think I’ll go back unless acoustic tiles go up on the ceiling.
I great new gem in Silver Spring. It's like a trip to South Beach in atmosphere, food and music.
The service needs a little help but its is worth the trip.
The Vaca Frita was so delicious. And everything else was great too.
Great food, great drinks. Service left something to be desired. Seemed a bit biased relative to how other patrons were treated. Will prob still go back, just not the same server.
Once again, a fantastic dining experience. Friendly greeting by the gracious owner, lovely outdoor seating, lovely servers, and delicious food and beverages. We loved everything about this dinner.
Service was great, food was great, a little loud but will definitely go back!
Such amazing food! And the portions are large, so your money goes a long way.
Service is spotty. Ive been here several times and its really hit or miss (mostly miss) when it comes to the table service. Food, location and atmosphere keeps me coming back.
Love the energy and great food!
The food, drinks, and service are consistently great. I like taking friends and family there for happy hour to introduce them to my new favorite restaurant in Silver Spring Maryland
We love this place (and its predecessor, Urban Butcher).
Great, especially if the weather's nice and you can sit outside. What I ordered was authentic and tasty. Friendly, attentive staff at front desk who took time when he seated me to explain gluten free options (I'm celiac) and server. Would go back but probably not during winter; I suspect that inside noise levels are deafening.
Everyone who works at El Sapo are WONDERFUL! Thx for your service and will be back soon.
Fabulous food, wonderful staff, and great vibe. We were with friends from Cuba and they were so grateful for the authenticity of the experience!
Arrived 30 minutes early, expecting to have drinks until our reservation time. We went right to our table. Food was great. A really nice spin on crab cakes.
Food was worth money and atmosphere fantastic. Great location and wait staff very knowledgeable
The food was great. Service was very attentive. We sat outside and it was lovely.
Delicious food and awesome environment! Service is outstanding!
Happy hour till 7:30 even on weekends. Great mojitos and empenadas
Happy to have hit this Silver Spring hot spot on Friday night. The restaurant had the whole front open t the beautiful evening; it was busy and a bit loud, but not terrible. The food is very good and authentic; the service was excellent. Lots of fun drinks, only one beer choice. Perhaps a little pricey for what you get, but definitely worth a visit.
Lively open air restaurant - they have "garage doors" that can open/close depending on the weather. The food was excellent. We ate family style and I tried everything - all delicious. Mojitos were some of the best I've had. Flan was the best dessert & Cuban style coffees were on point. Will definitely return.
Portions are a bit on the small side. The menu is ok, the Ambiance and look of the restaurant is very cool. The customer service is ok. The overall experience was ok but I was kind of expecting more. Order the salmon!
Food was too greasy and service was too rushed - server didn't care to explain the dishes, just wanted our order. Bland presentation.
The shrimp were undercooked and two family members got sick.
El SApo Cuban Social Club is the perfect spot for a delicious mojito, outdoor seating and authentic Cuban cuisine! It's a little hard to hear indoors, but the ambiance is light and fun. great for girls night, date night, or just a group looking for some fun!
Service was very slow and poor. Our server looked over worked and was sweaty. Restaurant seems like they are short staff. Guy giving out the water and passing out the food was unfriendly and looked miserable. Our drinks were bland and barely can taste the alcohol. We order the vaca frita, it was tasty but only comes with a side of rice or perhaps they forgot to bring black beans. After eating the vaca frita, I believe it was overprice if it only comes with a side. I will not go back and rather go to other Cuban restaurants in the area!
Great atmosphere, and very good mojitos. They sometimes rush you out at happy hour, but with a dinner eservation, we were allowed to linger over drinks for a long time.
Service wasn’t as good as on previous visits. Our server forgot our cocktails, among other things.
We had a wonderful welcoming experience the food is great, the mojitos perfect atmosphere festive and beautiful staff . Did not want it to end . Will return I am a fan !
