El Sapo Cuban Social Club
This was a welcomed vibe, reminding you of an evening in South Florida. The food was fabulous and the signature drink (mojito), probably the best I've had.
Headed to a movie at the AFI Silver, we decided to try El Sapo based on current great reviews. We hoped that going a bit early would be less noisy. The music was loud, but overall not as bad as expected. I imagine it becomes a real din when the place is full. I guess it's part of the emphasis on a "party" atmosphere. In any case, the host and servers were engaging and efficient.
The menu is compact but the food was very good. Being "pescatarians" we tried the cod fritters, manchego and peppers, fried plantains and salmon, all of which were well-prepared and flavorful. Great salsa with the plantains. The mojitos were on the sweet side, but well-balanced with lime.
Too loud and noisy. Great appetizers and service. Turn down the music so that we can hear each others conversation.
An incredible culinary delight !! The food here is amazing like a home cooked meal. Be sure to order the Oxtail stew.
It’s too loud for my taste, it’s actually too much money for the portions, the food it’s really good, excellent, but one of
I’ve been to this restaurant twice now and have had a great experience both times. Very conscious of food allergies and delicious food and mojitos.
My family and I loved it! I had a large party of 12 people and while I probably won’t have that large a party at this restaurant again—the staff at el Sapo managed to get all of our orders sorted out. This restaurant is for a more intimate bunch for sure and not really the best location for large parties. That said, the food tasted good, my toddler son ate well despite there not being a kids’ menu and I was appreciative of the fact that the entrees were “kid friendly.” I’ll definitely be going back with no more than 5 or 6 other people!
We had a great meal. Everything we ordered was delicious and we had a difficult time making choices among so many yummy-sounding options. I love the open kitchen. The only thing that gave me pause was the sight of a large stack of what looked like pre-made Cubano sandwiches wrapped in plastic and stacked atop a convection oven. Since the sandwich is one of the hallmarks of Cuban cuisine I would expect that each one would be made to order but it didn't appear as thought that were the case. We did not order one mainly for that reason.
El Sapo Social Club has the most amazing Cuban food. The flavors are bright, fresh, and delicious. Drinks are also spectacular. Among the best restaurants in the DC metropolitan area.
Food was bland
Fantastic food and ambiance
MUCH TOO LOUD !!! And rather overpriced for the quality of the food.
Way too noisy. We had to yell to each other. Couldn’t even hear the server. Then a party of 14 was seated right next to us. Gave up trying to talk. I’d been warned about this. Food good, service very good. Menu a bit limited. Seating a bit cramped.
Enough meet to make one a vegetarian. Noisy and crowded too.
Best cuban food in town, hands down! My wife and i have added El Sapo to our list of top date night spots. We will be back again and again.
Great place to spend some time with friends or a significant other for dinner and drinks. Always get a reservation.
Always a hit!! The food is consistently excellent.
Every meal I’ve had at El Sapo has been superb and the service is top notch! A Silver Spring GEM!!
Lively, somewhat noisy, but festive place with excellent Cuban food and drink. It's a neighborhood gem and a destination.
AMAZING, delicious food in a fun, vibrant, but sometimes too noisy atmosphere.
Great food. Super fun spot. Drinks are great and fabulous service
Sooo good get the pork
We had a birthday dinner there for 6 people on Oct 11 and had an absolutely amazing time! Food was delicious, drinks were tasty, and service was awesome! We will definitely be back!
Service was absolutely appalling. We had to wait at least 20 mins for drinks, and another ten before we could snag the waitress to take our food order. Then at least another 30 mins to get our food, which arrived cold. My wife sent back her fish; 10 mins later we got back supposedly a new plate, STILL cold. The owner, to whom I complained twice, seemed utterly indifferent to our dissatisfaction and even annoyed when I asked him to take my wife’s dish off the check (which the waitress had promised to do but didn’t.) pleasing the customer is obviously not a priority at this establishment.
The Grilled Sardines were awesome!! As was everything else. We ordered many different dishes and
shared - everything was beautifully prepared and nicely served. Can't wait to go back.
A colleague and I had dinner at El Sapo on a Wednesday night. She had the empanadas and salmon entree with beans and rice and loved it. I had the grilled sardines appetizer and Taso de Chivo and both were very good. However, the sardines have fine bones. So, be careful. I also had a mojito and it was also very good. Our waiter was a bit slow in taking our order and getting our check, but was kind and very good in the middle. I think he saw us talking and may have been trying to gauge the best time to approach the table, which is understandable.
Nice find in silver spring
This is one of the best restaurants in the County.
Everything we had was delicious and everyone was very friendly. The only problem with service was that everything came at once, due to some miscommunication. The smaller plates were bigger than expected, so don't over order!
Booked table for 3 for 5:30 Sat. night. One friend didn't show, so offered up the table to be split so others may be seated.(No one got seated) Server was very good, but we felt rushed throughout the meal continually being interrupted by the host and server, when we were obviously in deep conversation. My friend was visiting from out of town, so we wanted to spend time drinking eating and chatting. After paying the bill but before we had finished our drinks the host told us we had to give up our table for a group of 3. She told us to sit at the bar outside where there were 2 seats, but we weren't dressed for outside and the heaters weren't on. We didn't feel like we had a choice to move and there was no offer or incentive given, which would have helped and been good customer service. We begrudgingly gave up our table and went to the bar for a short time. The bar tender listened to our story and served us a shot of something delicious which we appreciated. It's a great restaurant, I've been several times, and will go back again, but the host should find different ways to encourage clients to give up a table.
We had terrific cerviche and fair empanatas to eat.
Ok place but ridiculously loud at rush hour. It’s impossible to hold a conversation without screaming across the table. I’m not talking about making it totally subdued but they should do something to reduce the noise to a moderate level. I don’t think I’ll go back unless acoustic tiles go up on the ceiling.
El Sapo is hands down the best restaurant in Silver Spring!! I went there for my birthday. I was wondering whether they would have authentic Cuban food. I was not disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious. The roast pork reminded me of my Cuban roots and how my mother and godmother used to prepare it. It is moist and flavorful. The black beans are the best I have ever tasted at a restaurant in the entire Washington metropolitan area. They were so delicious we had to get a take out order. The desserts are fresh and the whip cream is made from scratch. The crochets we ordered as appetizers were delicious. If you are looking for authentic Cuban food this is the spot. The owner is Cuban and he knows how to prepare Cuban food. The atmosphere is cheerful and the service is great!! Put this restaurant on your list.
I great new gem in Silver Spring. It's like a trip to South Beach in atmosphere, food and music.
The service needs a little help but its is worth the trip.
The Vaca Frita was so delicious. And everything else was great too.
Great food, great drinks. Service left something to be desired. Seemed a bit biased relative to how other patrons were treated. Will prob still go back, just not the same server.
Once again, a fantastic dining experience. Friendly greeting by the gracious owner, lovely outdoor seating, lovely servers, and delicious food and beverages. We loved everything about this dinner.
Service was great, food was great, a little loud but will definitely go back!
Such amazing food! And the portions are large, so your money goes a long way.
Service is spotty. Ive been here several times and its really hit or miss (mostly miss) when it comes to the table service. Food, location and atmosphere keeps me coming back.
Love the energy and great food!
