Newbury’s El Sabio Tapas Bar and Restaurant is the follow up to a hugely successful big sister already taking Winchester by storm. Just like the original, El Sabio Newbury is a friendly, family run Spanish eatery as reliant on charming service as it is on good food. The simple, contemporary interior of El Sabio is comfortable and bright, the décor vibrant in deep red and cream on both floors – the ground floor a more relaxed bar space while upstairs the space feels more restaurant-like. The brainchild of Hungarian chef Attila Vanko, El Sabio is an expression of his enthusiasm for authentic Spanish food and the easy, relaxed approach of the Spanish tapas bar to socialising and eating with family and friends. Attila sources a combination of locally farmed ingredients as well as specialty produce directly imported from Spain for us in his kitchen, the resulting tapas menu (which also features the brand’s famed paellas) a blend of freshness and authenticity.

we arrived and it was a really warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere even though it was busy we had an excellent meal the tapas were amazing and plenty of them to choose from. overall an excellent place to eat and friendly and helpful staff i would definatley visit again

We ordered about 8-10 dishes between 2 adults and a child. Most were so oversalted particularly the garlic mozzarella bread, pork meatballs and the sauce on the potatoes. The chicken and chorizo paella was ok but lacking spices and any great flavour. We also ordered the fat chips which turned out to be packet wedges, disappointing. This place has such a fantastic location in newbury and huge potential - unfortunately it falls way short at the minute.

El Sabio had a nice authentic feel about it, authentic for being outside of Spain anyway. The food tasted great and there was lots of it. 3 tapas per person was plenty. My only complaint is that the service was a bit slow, especially given that the restaurant didn't seem that busy. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful though. So overall pleased with the experience.

I ate here with my partner after attending the races. The menu had a large and varied selection of Tapas dishes to choose from (meat, fish, vegetarian). The food was very tasty and well presented. The restaurant had an authentic Spanish feel and the staff were attentive throughout. I would thoroughly recommend dining at this restaurant.

I have no complaints. The tapas was varied, delicious and well priced. They had quite a few dishes I'd not seen elsewhere along with the usual favourites. We'll be going back and my other half isn't usually a fan of tapas.
