Nestled in the cottonwoods, El Pinto was founded with eight tables in 1962. Twin brothers John and Jim Thomas, known as the Salsa Twins, carry on the family tradition and have expanded El Pinto into the quintessential "Spot" for healthy and fresh New Mexican cuisine. Experience an authentic Taste of New Mexico.

The Salsa Twins are pairing tradition with innovative healthy nutrition at El Pinto. El Pinto is proud to have the first and only Animal Welfare Approved laying hen program on property. 200 hens lay pasture raised eggs for daily use. An onsite green house produces over 5,000 lbs of organically grown greens.

Freshness is throughout El Pinto. El Pinto uses chile from Hatch, NM, dryland beans from CO, healthy sunflower oil for frying, Celtic sea salt for seasoning, and local ingredients when in season.

It has been featured on Food Network, Travel Channel and the BBC among other places.

Came for my husband’s birthday. Server seemed anxious to just get our order and be done with it. Our food was warm at best. Even after sending it back the second plates were not hot. While the manager on duty was very apologetic and offered to comp the meals (we don’t do that sort of thing) the experience was far from pleasant. He did bring us a sack with salsa in it. We won’t be back.

Decent food. The ribs were amazing, but stuffed sopapilla were just ok. The prices were pretty high, and the kids menu was very basic. Overall not a bad stop for an out of towner, but it’s wouldn’t go out of my the next time we visit.

The atmosphere is wonderful and the drinks are great. The food leaves much to be desired. The prices are high so the food was expected to be good. Chicken was way over cooked and dry. Food had been left under warmer for awhile because sauces were very dry.

The food was great, the service fantastic and our table was ready right as we arrived. The timing of the food delivery was great, all of it was plenty hot when it arrived and our cups were never empty. Will definitely go here again.

First of all, I’m glad I can now make reservations via Open Table at El Pinto, especially for a large family group. This is one of the few restaurants that can seat a large extended family in town.

We did have some issues with the seating, however. They put us on the patio and in order to accommodate 11 people, they put 4 round tables together. The chairs were the large wood ones they have and they did not fit at the table. My father had to split his spot between two tables, just to have a place to put his drink and his plate.

These tables were also very wobbly and I ended up with my margarita in my lap, due to someone hitting the leg as they pulled their over-sized chair up to the table. Wait staff brought a wedge, but a bit too late. I suggest when the tables are set up, remember to check if they are sturdy and won’t launch a drink all over the table and guests!

My final bit of advice to the kitchen: when someone has a food allergy and asks for something to be omitted, such as the rice and no onions due to allergy, do NOT substitute calavacitas for the omission! It wasn’t asked for and it is full of onions!

I give the whole night a 4, simply because my family did enjoy themselves and the atmosphere lent a hand in the merriment of the occasion.

Had reservation for six at 6:30. Got table immediately. Extremely busy crowd. Drinks were pushed but after ordering at 6:40 p.m., food didn't arrive until 7:35 p.m. Nice wait staff but kitchen was too backed up and no apology or offer of discount occurred. Bottom line: too long to wait for food and too pricey for a few burritos, tacos and enchiladas for six. It'll be a while before another visit.
