Opentable cancelled my reservation. Called the restaurant twice. No response. Found out the restaurant closed in the newspaper.
My salmon had the most amazing flavor. I love the bar as well. Service could not have been better.
Great spot with wonderful service and very good food. Highly recommended.
This is normally a really solid restaurant and we have dined there on several occasions. Unfortunately we had one of the worst dinners we’ve had in a long time.
There were 7 entrees on the menu, and our group of 6 ordered 5 of them. The hamburger and chicken were fine, as one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The salmon in a clay pot was overly fishy and dry, the Duboc pork chop for $48 was over cooked, and the plums were inedible due to over saltiness. The tomato and stone fruit appetIzer was truly the only dish that was excellent.
We had a party of 8 and our experience was fantastic. The food was a amazing and the service was top notch. We enjoyed the ambiance of the fireplace room and we will definitely be back on our next trip to the area.
Need to use a white tablecloth at this price level! Steak was overpriced at $46.
Should have had a candle on desert since this was a birthday we told management about. Chicken and pork were excellent. Other vegetables were just average.
The restaurant had no ice for the table and when we requested ice for water and beverages they were very stingy. Super strange for a restaurant to not have ice, don’t you think? Our waitress was super sassy and passive aggressive when we asked questions on the menu etc.
They also used to serve pop over bread when Tyler Florence was part of the restaurant but now they don’t serve anything... we ordered apps but would’ve loved some bread as well for the sauces.
All in all the restaurant is not as good as it used to be. The food and experience is not worth the prices.
The pork chop with grilled peach and blue cheese was phenomenal.
Desserts are not their thing. Donut holes sent back twice because they were hard as rocks. It’s a small place so if there are tables with kids the noise really carries. Menu is not very descriptive and only a handful of options.
Although the menu was somewhat limited and the prices a bit high, the food was excellent, as was the service and the dining area.
Father’s Day brunch. Had the Pork Chop on the Brunch menu. It was
The food and service are fantastic, recommend the rib eye and the halibut starter.
Food was excellent. My trout in the bacon broth was so unique and fantastic. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly. The cheese it was paired with was much too pungent and overpowering however. The donut holes were raw on the inside so we sent them back. The appetizers, salad and market vegetables with fromage blanc were delicious. The ambiance was very cozy and romantic.
Everything was amazing! The food was stellar and the service was outstanding! Oscar, our server, was fantastic! A wonderful experience!
Good place. Get several small plates and share. They are very good and creative.
We were very disappointed to be charged a double corkage fee because we brought a magnum bottle of wine. To pay prices like that for mediocre food, and then to be insulted with this $50 fee, made all 6 of us think we would not likely return or recommend El Paseo to anyone. Our bill was $450. including a generous 25% tip. Honestly, as someone who eats out a lot, the food was not worth the price. The appetizers were exceptional, but the entrees were not. Our vegetarian risotto was gloppy and not well prepared at all. The atmosphere could not be better, and the server was professional, funny, and attentive.
Initially our table was great, in a separate room and quiet. As the room filled up, the noise level made it very difficult to converse form the four of us. Food was OK. Waiter was not. Expensive food and wine.
Amazing dining experience all around. Attended for our anniversary! The food and wine was amazing!! We had desert on the patio. Loved the ambiance! Top notch service! The building is incredible! I would highly recommend to anyone!
Service was terrible. Food very good.
It is so rare that we have had such a disappointing dining experience that I felt compelled to write this review. We went to this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, as years ago it was where we had our first date. We were excited to experience the updated venue, etc. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow, almost dismissive, and, more important, the food disappointing to an extreme. We started with a couple of items that, although uneventful, turned out to be the best things we were served, but our entrees, one beef and one pork were the fattiest and toughest things we were served in years. My asparagus were so charred they were impossible to chew. No one questioned how little we ate. We ordered one cocktail and 3 wines by the glass, so 4 drinks total, and forwent dessert because we were so "done"...and the bill was $240.00 before tip. Buyer beware! Come on, El Paseo, you must be able to do better than this.
A wonderful time with friends celebrating life's experiences, birthdays and friendship. The food was delicious and the service was attentive to details and made the whole evening simply memorable. Thank you for making this extra special with the placement of our party in the library room - it was intimate and especially unique! Always a treat to dine at this Mill Valley historical establishment. Treasured memories indeed!
Overall, experience was okay.
Arrived early; waited in bar for restaurant to open up.
Hostess advised we could come into restaurant, but then tried to sit us in a back (sunnyside) area even though we have reservation requesting table in front dining room. Finally corrected challenged her and when she learned our name, she advised she thought we were someone else.
A little disappointed in the value as it relates to cost. Thought it was overpriced. Also, ordered pork chop and was disappointed that center was raw.
I hate leaving a bad review, I almost never leave a negative review, unless it is to warn fellow patrons of impending disappointment .... This I am afraid is one such review.
Our party of 3 were seated at our table, which was around a sharp corner adjacent to the entrance and the server station. The hostess would call our “corner” every time she turned into the dining room so as to not run into the servers... This is an old space and generally a crowded dining room.
Our table unfortunately was right next to the entrance of the dining space, next to the “corner”... On a cool Bay Area night a very drafty, very crowded and very noisy corner. (They leave the resturant door open).
There were some booths that were empty, some were occupied by couples or groups. I politely asked our server if we could be reseated. He inquired with the hostess and came back with, “sorry, nothings open, and the hostess is busy”... A few minutes later the hostess walked by to seat a couple in a booth... and I managed to flag her down. It went downhill from there.
We were very curtly informed... Every booth or table is spoken for. If you want a booth, you need to say so in your reservation. This is all we have. Her tone and demeanor were rude and condescending. At this point we decided to leave and got a table at Cavallo Point for 15 mts later for a great meal.
You will drop some decent money here, on a very limited menu and a very concise wine list (the list online is much larger - not so at the restaurant). We didn’t eat so cant comment on the food, I am sure it’s fine.
Yummy food, lovely and down-to-earth service. Miss some things from the old menu, like deviled eggs and free bread. Menu is even more limited than previously, but if you like what they have, it’s delicious.
Had the ribeye. Steak was very good but price too high at $58.
This was my 2nd visit. Excellent, delicious food from start to finish. Attentive, friendly service. Rustic, lovely ambiance. Will return.
The restaurant menu doesn't make sense. Very limited (few choices) and very expensive. The prices suggest excellent service, excellent quality, excellent food and excellent overall but frankly, all things except ambiance (which is excellent) are average at best.
When looking at a menu with a $58 steak and $48 pork chop, one's expectations are pretty high.
The food was good, the menu much too small, not enough choices.
Went for brunch. It was very dark inside. The servers seemed nervous and somber. They had no decaf coffee at all on Mother's Day. The food was very fresh and tasty. But we left craving a friendly face and some day light.
Had another outstanding meal with clients. The wine list is great and the food is spot on!
Just the best
Food was very mediocre at a very high price. Staff was casual and inatentive for the price point. Wine list was short and scattered. Not very many dishes on the menu. Terrible value. Would not recommend at any price point.
We came for a special occasion, not having been to El Paseo in several years, but left without ordering. The menu was extremely limited, and overpriced. We ended up going down the street to Balboa Cafe for an excellent meal. To bring the point home, the pork chop at El Paseo was $48. At Balboa Cafe it was $28, and very, very good. Unless they change their format, we'd go back to El Paseo for a drink but that's about it.
The menu was pretty limited particularly for anything light. What we ordered was tasty but very calorie dense. Charming spot.
El Paseo in Mill Valley is charming, intimate, gracious, and altogether delightful. The menu is inventive and inviting and regularly changes. It was truly a pleasure to spend time there, and we look forward to doing it again -- and often!
Special occasion not acknowledged.
Service was abrupt and not accommodating. Not a warm or good experience. Would return
40 minute wait despite reservation. Good wine but small food menu. No bread available at all. Cheese on most appetizers and entees but no vehicle. No buns for burger. Only 2 desserts left, one of which was ice cream. The food was not cooked properly.
Special dinner for a special getaway weekend with my mom - it was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and the staff made us warmly welcomed. The setting was the biggest draw for us, having never been here before. It did not disappoint, although we did feel the music made conversation challenging.
This restaurant has an absolutely beautiful setting. On a lovely summer night, one can eat indoors or outdoors. It is charming. The food is delicious.
