El Naranjo is an Austin, TX restaurant that is proud to serve up high quality, fresh Mexican cuisine that has an authentic traditional favor. You can always find something interesting on the menu and those who visit often will find that it changes regularly.
Some of the typical items you will find on the menu at El Naranjo include guacamole, empanadas, ceviche and camarones al chrimole. You can also enjoy a variety of different types of tacos. In addition, you can enjoy the homemade moles, all of which are made from scratch. You can choose from pork chop, duck breast and other items. El Naranjo is the place to dine for authentic flavor.
Awesome food, especially the mole with duck breast. Appetizers were also really unique and delicious, plus the staff were courteous and attended to our table well!
Our wait person was the best I have ever had. I forget her name but she was tall, dark hair in a pony tail. She was so friendly, smiled, explained the dishes and the ingredients, was efficient, provided everything we needed in the best possible manner. She was truly excellent!!! The food was as outstanding as our waitress. We were a group of 3 and we had tacos, rellenos, and short ribs. And the best for last were the churros. The meal, the waitress, the entire experience could not have been better!
It was wonderful!
Amazing blend of flavors & sensations! Our waiter knew all the background of all the dishes and drinks & just what to suggest, what a phenomenal treat!
Food needs improvement to be called authentic Mexican cuisine. We had chilaquiles and no beans, any plate without beans is not Mexican
The food was good, but not spectacular. I had the chile relleno with cheese, which was plain. Not worth $24. Service was good. I had indicated on the reservation that it was my birthday, and no one acknowledged it. A little disappointed in this restaurant that came highly recommended.
Very good and unique real mexican foods. But pricey.
Fantastic authentic Mexican food. Moles are otherworldly and the guacamole is unbeatable. Great spot on Rainey street.
We found every dish too salty for our taste, including the guacamole. Stuck to the small plates part of the menu and found nothing outstanding. Great drinks and flan.
Our waiter Dustin was superb! Highly recommend the small plate of two enchiladas with mole sauce which was devine. The trio of sauces with ciabatta bread before the meal was a party in your mouth! The Experience beat our expectations! Can't wait to return!
We loved the food. Unusual flavors. The service was friendly. The space was split into two rooms. Interesting photographs on the walls. The restaurant is on the trendy Rainey street
I had family come from out of town and this place had great ambiance and fantastic service. Alex gave us tips and helped us understand the menu. He did great. We will be back
Our server Simon was very engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. His service and interaction with our group of 7 was perfect. The unique cocktails and wine selection complimented our meal.
This was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. We managed to try all three of the moles (two in main courses, one in an appetizer) and they were all outstanding and different as well. The cocktail list is southwestern focused and has some nice options. We also enjoyed a great bottle of wine from Mexico to go with the main courses and it stood up pretty well to the heat/spice of the dishes. The space can be a bit noisy when crowded it appears. The only other minor complaint is we felt a bit rushed. We had a 9 pm reservation, which was ready for us, but once we sat down it was made clear "the kitchen closes at 10", so we had to order right away versus enjoying a cocktail for a short while and then getting food delivered. That aside, the wait staff was helpful and attentive and it was a very enjoyable meal.
The service and food were fantastic. Our group tried each of the three different moles with different proteins and they were all terrific, though my favorite ( and choice) was the lightest of the three. Our server was very helpful in guiding us through the menu as we were first time diners. Great craft cocktail and tequila lists. You should make a reservation as it is a rather small restaurant and fills up quickly. The great reviews are well deserved!
Amazing brunch. Enfrijoladas with chorizo are my fav! Service was exceptional.
First time dining at El Naranjo. I have heard good things from friends and have read many positive reviews. It did not disappoint. Great food. Great service. We plan to visit again soon. Gracias!
An excellent experience. If you're downtown, you absolutely have to go here. Great portions, waiters are very knowledgeable. Every course has fantastic options.
Great food, very authentic flavor and great service. This place is good for a date or anniversaries. It has a premium prices but well worth since the quality is excellent and dish sizes are good.
Great service! Food was good, but not great. Nice and quiet which was good for a group of friends getting together.
Friend visiting from SF!
We visited Oaxaca in April 2018 and lunch at El Naranjo took us back to that wonderful trip. The food was every bit as good as our best meals in Oaxaca. We can't wait to go back again and again. Keep up the good work. We found a place to park on the street for lunch but wish parking were easier.
Delicious food, delightful service, charming ambiance! Would have loved more vegetarian options, but "when in Texas..." Will definitely be back.
Saturday brunch; Eggs benedicto were excellent and loved the pan dulce.
Lovely spot combining great food, ambiance, and attention to detail.
wonderful service and delicious food. We went for Brunch on Sunday. Enchiladas were delicious. Adding a small side of guacamole and salsa verde really jazzed up the omelet.
Everything was well presented, tasted good, and was a good size portion. However the food was pretty overpriced for what it was. We wouldn't go back.
Been coming to El Naranjo since its opened and I consider it to be one of the top 10 restaurants in Austin, and in the top 2 when it comes to authentic, interior Mexican food. The preparation, service, and ambience are always excellent and Illiana is a tremendous host. One of my new year resolutions will be to eat here more often next yr.
They were pretty booked for the holidays so we opted for the covered and heated porch. The porch was inside a tent situated on a deck it was temperate in the tent, however the cold came up through the decking and the metal chairs were like sitting on ice. However the food was top notch and probably one of the best meals you can get in town.
As always, the food was amazing. We tried the empanadas this time and they were outstanding! We also splurged on the mango flan, also really good. The service was excellent as well - our waitperson explained the dishes including some of the cultural aspects as we ordered them. I can see why this is consistently rated as a top restaurant in Austin.
Great place for drinks and dinner ceviche was awesome
Always cherished as a favorite stop in Austin, Naranjo features carefully crafted Mexican staples and regional fare from Oaxaca.
Quality of food is not what it used to be. The Fall dulce drink tasted like diluted tequila, tge guacamole waa not spicy at all, cochinita pibil was dry and not good, either. Maybe the flavors are gear towards American taste. I am mexican and I waa very disappointed.
Real mexican food, nothing tex-mex
And it’s delicious
Great Authentic Mexican food , none of the Texmex the real thing .
Food was amazing, and so was the service! Place is on the pricey side but the culinary art in the dishes served justified the prices in my opinion.
Have eaten here several times. Always bring family when they come to town. Lindsey is amazing!
Excellent authentic gourmet Mexican!
This is hands down my favorite restaurant - not only in Austin, but anywhere.
