Great place for drinks and dinner ceviche was awesome
Always cherished as a favorite stop in Austin, Naranjo features carefully crafted Mexican staples and regional fare from Oaxaca.
Quality of food is not what it used to be. The Fall dulce drink tasted like diluted tequila, tge guacamole waa not spicy at all, cochinita pibil was dry and not good, either. Maybe the flavors are gear towards American taste. I am mexican and I waa very disappointed.
Real mexican food, nothing tex-mex
And it’s delicious
Great Authentic Mexican food , none of the Texmex the real thing .
Food was amazing, and so was the service! Place is on the pricey side but the culinary art in the dishes served justified the prices in my opinion.
Have eaten here several times. Always bring family when they come to town. Lindsey is amazing!
Excellent authentic gourmet Mexican!
This is hands down my favorite restaurant - not only in Austin, but anywhere.
Delicious and the moles were bordering on magical!
Hands down BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT in Austin. Awesome location, great vibe, DELICIOUS comfort food... need I say more?
Fabulous Interior Mexican food with a great menu, and the best trés leches ever!
Let me start by saying I have NEVER written a review of ANY restaurant on any site. Naranjo started off great and turned out TERRIBLE. Kitchens make mistakes, servers make mistakes and that's totally cool, but when no one claims responsibility or tries to resolve the issue, that's bad business. We started off ordering drinks and starters--both were really good. The restaurant was busy, server was attentive, but not aggressive.
We waited, waited and WAITED for our entree (about 40 minutes). We never once complained or asked.
No one from the restaurant said anything to us until our server uncomfortably mentioned our meal was accidentally given to someone else and they started eating it. Kinda funny, right? They said, they were making a new meal--fast. She promised we would have it ASAP. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 15 passed...seriously? No one said anything to us again, no manager, no server, no one. I don't care about free anything (that was not what I was looking for), but acknowledge we are still there with no meal. Finally when another table next to us that sat down after us received its food, we decided if we could catch her attention, we were going to say if the food wasn't coming out, we wanted the bill. And guess what? It was not ready. So we paid the bill two hours after we walked in the doors without eating any entrees.
The food we ate was good. The food the people around us were eating looked great, we only wish we could have tried some. If you venture to go to Naranjo, we hope you don't have the same experience as us.
A real disappointment. We picked it for the gluten free options which turned out to be extremely limited. 3 mole choices- just one was GF. And unless you wanted red meat, it narrowed the choices more. Even the tostadas were fried in the same oil as churros so they weren't GF. I went with the fish which was not even served hot, as if it had been pre- prepared- and for the money was a small portion. The night that we went, our table for 4 was in the corner surrounded by large parties that were loud. No thanks.
Food is still really good, ambiance is fine in dining room. Lighting too bright & a bad odor in bathroom (not caused by recent user). Service was quite slow & prices very high for overall experience.
My favorite interior Mexican food. Fresh ingredients expertly prepared make for a dining experience to remember.
Our favorite Austin restaurant. Upscale Mexican cuisine.
My fiance and I went on a date at El Naranjo and the food blew us away! We had the ceviche (it was a special that night) and split a couple of small plates, and the mole enchiladas were outstanding. I am still dreaming about them! The waiter was very friendly and it was clear that he was passionate about the food too. Overall we had a great time.
Very well prepared Mexican food. One of our friends was of Mexican heritage and enjoyed the dinner. Some dishes can be quite spicy.
Given the boil notice, I definitely understand the need to sell water—I don't think a $6 bottled water helps with the situation though.
Nevertheless, I really (and I mean really) love the food. Price was a bit steep but totally worth it. I was raised in Mexico and although every state has its own flavors and dishes—your food definitely reminded me of home.
Totally coming again!!
Excellent Food, "it is the real Mexican Food".
The quesadillas are amazing, the "Conchas" a sweet Mexican pastry is delicious , great service.
Any day any time you can enjoy the great menu from this place.
Chocolate mole con pollo is always complex and delicious; the pasilla was spicy hot, flavorful and outstanding. Margaritas are the best!
Very poor service. Rigid and non understanding staff. I specifically mentioned this was a special occasion. We very not made to feel special. Requested a table change change since they gave us a table tightly fitted between two tables. Staff was not willing to listen or change despite the fact that 80% of the tables were empty.
If you are interested in wonderful interior mexican food in a very nice setting with great service, this is the restaurant that you want to go to.
Service was great. We loved the ceviche, margaritas, crab tostadas, and cute little complimentary chibatta bites. It was very noisy, and the mole portions were pretty small for the price.
Great customer service and amazing food!
Food was amazing. Drinks were also spot on. Spent a special evening celebrating. Don’t miss it.
Had a wonderful Saturday Brunch on the first taste of fall day in Austin. Great service and unforgettable Oaxacan Cusine.
Loved this place. Food was excellent and service was really good. Will return.
This was our first visit. The cocktails and food were outstanding.
Great food, really great food! Lots of great appetizers make up a full meal!
If you want authentic Mexican food, you need to try El Naranjo. I love the enchiladas verdes, and make sure to come early and try the Conchas, definitely the best I ever had including the ones in Mexico, no kidding.
Went for dinner for restaurant week only to find out that was for lunch only.
One of the martinis (desert sour or something like that) sounded good from the description, however it tasted like liquid smoke. No mention of "smoked" in the description.
Saturday Brunch was delicious! We had a very large group....took the entire front dining area to seat us! Waitstaff was wonderful.....very attentive! Hibiscus tea was very good. I had the omelet and my husband had Carne Guisada.....both were very good! The Pan Dulce was awesome.....so tender! The Bacon was delicious! A real gem on this street of small restaurants!
The best quesadillas see ever ate! And the sangria was superb. A perfect place for lunch or special occasion fine, authentic Mexican dining. Highly recommend this initiate dining experience.
Special time with special friends and awesome food. Will return.
The queso fundido was as advertised---awesome! The mole' was outstanding. The service is outstanding! I highly recommend El Naranjo.
Best concha ever! Excellent service and food and Bloody Mary. Construction was noisy but all the rest was great.
Excellent service (Dustin), and wonderful food. I had the braised short ribs with goat cheese mashed potatoes (very tasty). My wife had the shrimp with a jicama-pineapple slaw that was also fantastic. Based on an online recommendation, we started with fundido, and we were not disappointed. This place is a real find for us. We will dine there again... hopefully soon. Thank you El Naranjo!
