El Jefe Leña y Mar
The parking lot was a sheet of ice and server was not very inattentive. The food and atmosphere were good. Food was a little overpriced.
Good service. Food was excellent.
This is my 4th time at El Jefe. I’m giving a low rating because the food is just too salty. I gave them several tries to maybe get it all together being a new restaurant. This past weekend we took our son who was celebrating a birthday and the food was just so disappointing. I truly want this place to survive because Aurora needs some great restaurants. I’m hoping the owners will look at this review and consider less sodium. If you like salt, you’ll love it here.
We were there with friends for New Year’s Eve. Our server was very knowledgeable and the food was outstanding. It was a little loud but it was NYE. I’ve been there before for lunch. Both meals were exceptional. The ambience is like no other in Aurora. Definitely a fave.
Great place, people and food!
We will be back! Highly recommend the food and drinks at El Jefe!
Delicious! We will be back and bring more people. Yum.
Not your traditional Mexican fare. The food is good and of high quality, but slightly pricey. The atmosphere is very loud and conversationally challenging.
The Guac was great. The margaretta was outstanding. The skirt steak and fisf tacos were excellent. Great service. Glad I had a reservation.
We will be back!!
Excellent visit to El Jefe. Great staff and all of us really enjoyed the food.
Drinks were good and reasonably priced.
Nice to see a restaurant with more than the normal offerings.
We will be back !
Great food and service. Made a reservation and we were seated promptly. Shrimp tacos were amazing. Servers were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back.
The food was good and presentation was unique. We both felt the pricing was a bit expensive for each dish. Our waitress was wonderful and atmosphere was average. Because of the over pricing for what was received we most likely will not return.
The hand crafted cocktails are amazing. The extensive menu makes it hard to choose. Everything was delicious. Service was outstanding!
We found the restaurant to be a little loud, especially for my husband who is very hard of hearing.
We liked the food and drinks. The service was very good.
Not crazy about the salsa. Very good guacamole.
The Restaurant is industrial modern with lovely lighting and nice music. We were here on a Monday evening and noise level was fine. I think a full house would result in a high noise level tho.
Food was very good.
So happy that there has so many new restaurants opening in the suburbs. I’m tired of going to the “chili’s” type chains. This place was adorable! Good drinks, food good. Try the mango habanero guac! I’m glad they made a point to add a vegetarian and vegan option which i absolutely did not expect from a Mexican restaurant. I’m a vegetarian, I came thinking I was just going to drink and eat chips and salsa. I had the Chile rellenos with brussel sprouts (which I’m usually not a fan of) but these were AMAZING. Even my boyfriend who hates vegetables was stealing them off my plate.
Great food, fresh and authentic
Will definitely go back!
Service was great too
The server didn’t even know the menu or the items on it. ( most restaurants have their staff try items on the menu so they are knowledgeable)My son ordered a horchata and we never received it. The server also never came back to check how our meal was until we were ready to pay. At that time I explained to her that my shrimp were over cooked, I only ate one and left the remaking on my plate I just ate the rice on my plate. She did offer to get me something else however my family had already eaten and I didn’t want them to wait. Our bill was a $150 for 3 people we were not offered for them to take my entree off the bill or even a simple apology. I paid $24 for rice and cucumbers. We will definitely not be returning.
Everything was great just a little un organized because it just opened and the staff is adjusting. The micheladas were the best I have had in Illinois and the sea food was fresh and very good flavors in the food. Portion sizes are not like your average Mexican sea food restaurant, they are a bit smaller but very good.
We love the food, the ambiance, and the staff. We’ve tried something different each time we’ve been there and have enjoyed every meal.
Great service and great food highly recommend 👍
We were so excited to see El Jefe open at this location in Aurora, even more so when we walked in and saw how beautifully they'd decorated the interior.
Hits: All of the food we had was delicious and creatively prepared. The cocktails were quite tasty. Free chips and salsa while we waited was a nice touch. It's a beautiful space.
Misses: It was VERY noisy, enough to inhibit conversation. The cocktails were the only thing on the menu without a price, and it was a bit of a shock to see how much they were when we got the bill.
I wish all the best to this place, and I hope they stick around!
I never leave any review but this place is just bad. The host had the worst and most arrogant attitude . The music was very loud and we could hardly hear each other. The food was mediocre for that price. If you try to sell upscale Mexican food prepare it accordingly, the pulpo I ordered was overcooked and rubbery. The silverware and the napkins were dirty. We were celebrating a birthday and they did not even acknowledge it even though we put on the reservation. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place, there are far better Mexican restaurants.
Wait time is ridiculous even with a reservation. Prices are pretty high for okay food. Service is still kind of slow. Waiters/waitresses are kind and hardworking but management needs to step up and hire more staff.
