Mediterranean
Nestled high above LoHi on the fifth floor of 2930 Umatilla, El Five boasts spectacular unobstructed city views of the downtown Denver skyline. The large open-air patio sits adjacent to its popular big sister Linger; a sought-after seat come warmer nights. With its beautiful vistas, El Five will offer a relatively underrepresented cuisine here in Denver—a menu focused on traditional Spanish and Mediterranean tapas with influences from North Africa and the Middle East. El Five—the sensual, understated addition to Edible Beats.

As always, this place is a real treat. I've never had anything on the menu that I didn't love. Mostly it's just me and my husband, but this is the second time we were there with a group of 7 at my recommendation. 5 of my party had never been there before. We had to wait 40 minutes after we were seated to even get drinks to the table (which also happened the first time we were there with a group of 6). Not the impression I wanted my guests to get at my favorite restaurant. When I brought it to our servers attention, he blamed the fact that he put the order in, but it hadn't come up yet. Not the answer I would have hoped for. A simple "I'm sorry - I'll check" would have sufficed. Our drinks did arrive shortly there after, and the food was wonderful as always, but I won't be planning a group event there again.

Awesome location and very cool, vibing environment. Loved the interior of the restaurant and the glass surround walls that allow amazing city and mountain views. Staff was friendly. Service was lacking at many times during our meal. Food was not that tasty or memorable. This was VERY disappointing given all the other amazing aspects of the restaurant. Not sure if we will return which is unfortunate given the very unique decor and feel of the restaurant.

So glad to try this unique place. Had to dine early to get a reservation time, bet this is great after dark. Cocktails were quality, and mezze/tapas were tasty, but menu items were hard to decipher. Came for paella, which was good but maybe too complex for the execution. Also dishes came out a lite rushed, not sure if that was due to the dining time, that they wanted to hurry us out or just poor planning, but this is the kind of place where you'd be best to have time to consider and savor each presentation. All in all a cool and unique spot.

We went to El Five to celebrate our engagement, and it did not disappoint! We had multiple courses, delicious cocktails (nice and heavy-handed too) and our waiter, Nathan was an absolute gem. He made some fantastic suggestions. Everything down to the quality of the pita served was fantastic. The ambiance was perfect, the food was timely and delectable and the view was to die for. We'll be back in short order!

We always appreciate El Five’s attempts to honor our table requests when we are celebrating significant milestones with friends, and the personalized touches that enhance our guests’ experiences so that they feel especially lauded.
The cocktails at El Five are creative and fun - but not so much so as to be unpalatable as at some establishments where creativity trumps taste, and the mixologists will never give you the stinkeye if, for instance, you request that vodka replace gin, or plea for the removal of lavender. Nor will your server patronize you, or only mention the priciest of vintages when asked to recommend a wine. At the endorsement from servers, we have shared outstanding bottles from regions we would not have thought to consider, and then been astonished when our check arrived with a total far (far!) below our car payment.
And from the most fervent steak-and-potatoes carnivore to the most radical vegan, El Five’s tapas menu offers myriad delectable options that - truly - astonish. Heather consistently begins our dining experiences by determining the dietary restrictions AND preferences of each member of our party, and proceeds throughout the evening not only to offer recommendations for dishes, but also suggestions on how any given dish may be tweaked to satisfy both Ms. Steak and Mr. Vegan. The expeditor will then identify everything on the platter upon delivery, lest Ms. Steak eat a chickpea, or Mr. Vegan mussel-infused rice.
The view is incomparable. If you’re needing to impress that certain someone who Instagrams a hot dog, at El Five she can snap a photo of carrots-three-ways that rival any presentation in the city while also including as the backdrop to said carrots a shot of the city skyline that is stunning.
Finally, El Five is consistent. Whether you wish to treat your out-of-town parents to a memorable Denver experience, or your besties to an anniversary celebration, or your kids to a graduation festivity - El Five will never disappoint

Wow - I was so disappointed with this place. I reserved a table a month in advance and was not placed in an area with a good view. That’s understandable enough. The couple who arrived ahead of us were seated, then deported from their seats. When my date and I arrived, we weren’t allowed upstairs. After an interminable wait for a table once all parties had been reassigned, we were sat with a waiter who checked in every 30-45 minutes while ignoring our physical pleas in those periods of service-free isolation. Upon ordering paella, we were left alone for 45 minutes without update. Eventually, we simply asked for our check. The manager was nice.

The food that we were served was totally decent hipster Denver fare; just not good enough to overcome a bunch of sad service with sleeve tats and timeless piercings.

Outstanding tapas, clever drinks, spectacular view of downtown Denver's nightscape. We were celebrating birthdays and could not have been happier with our experience at El Five! Our menu favs of the night were: The Spreads of the Med (the house made pitas are to die for, so fluffy and soft), Goat Cheese Croquettes, Tabbouleh Lettuce Wraps (works of art that are almost too pretty to eat), and Turkish Pizza (this one is not to be missed!).

Valet your car, (it's only $5), check in at the entrance desk where a private elevator whisks you up to the fifth floor, and step out into the vibrancy of El Five's wall to wall windows overlooking seemingly all of Denver. We can't wait to go back!

Absolutley outstanding from the ambiance, up. Our service was great and the food.....phenomenal. Such complex flavor profiles, bites that start with one flavor, and finish another. Great combinations of textures, colors, tastes, very unique. Example: the roasted carrot hummus (highly recommend the spreads of the med as a starter) has this nutty, roasted veg flavor that is scrumptious. The dungarees crab salad was bright with citrus and spice. I can’t say enough good things about how delicious the food is here. Do yourself a favor and go. Memorable meal.

We went for restaurant week and our waitress Laura was very helpful with the menu. She helped us navigate through 3 different wine lists to find us a delicious bottle. The food was spectacular and well worth the price. We had a table by the window with a great view of the snowy city. This is my 3rd time at El Five and it still remains one of my top restaurants in Denver.

we arrived early for a special celebration only to be seated the back room

We sampled many items, while mostly small tapas sized food portions all were flavorful and beautifully presented . However, the seafood Paella was burnt. No Carmel safrito- just black burnt rice. The lady, who we found later to be the manager, told us we we wrong!

Expensive lesson. We won’t be back.

I loved El Five! It was during a snow storm and the view was still beautiful! The views from the restaurant are amazing all year round. We had a Vesper and Spicy Margarita to start. The Cauliflower, Goat Cheese Croquettes, Shrimp and Calamari a la plancha, Dungeness Crab, and Baba Ghanoush were all elegantly planted. They were easy to share and delish combinations. The service was on point and our waiter Jeremy was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine. Definitely, a wonderful meal and experience.

We decided to try out El Five during restaurant week in order to sample some of the kitchens best dishes at a steal of a price.

From appetizer to dessert, there was not one moment of disappointment. The way they bring together some of these flavors is genius. I don’t think you could order anything here and be disappointed.

The ambience of the venue feels like you are in New York. Great mood lighting and killer views of downtown. For a special occasion I would recommend reserving ahead of time and requesting one of the corner seats with a view.

Would definitely go again

The food was delicious with interesting flavors. Absolutely loved everything we ate and didn’t have a single bad dish. However, the service was poor. Our dishes came out of order and not all at once which is always awkward and inconvenient. One of us got their dish first and the rest of us had to wait another ten minutes to get our dishes. Service is usually least important to me, but not getting our dishes at once is a huge disappointment. Otherwise, great place with great food and views!
