Used to love EDK. Not any more. The food continues to shine, but the service has degraded considerably. But the BIG problem is the number of very large parties that are incredibly noisy. When you have 2-3 parties of 10+, all of which are celebrating SOMETHING, and they are all seated in the main dining room...well, it's more like a frat house than a restaurant. Gotta get this under control or they are going to lose repeat business from long term...and frequent... customers like me. Frankly, it's plain unpleasant.
We always have a great time here. Cocktails are creative, as is the food. Portions are ample and delicious. The dining room is beautiful and not too noisy and the outdoor patio on a warm day is so pleasant. The best part is the service, it is over the top: friendly, informative, professional with perfect attention. El Dorado Kitchen has really got the service thing down! Everything we have tried on the menu has been so good, we will return often. On our last visit we took my 92 year old father who has dietary restrictions, and our server was so gracious and patient, it was truly a heart-warming experience. We love this restaurant!
We enjoyed our meal very much. We had the duck taco's plus the Risotto. I would recommend this restaurant to others.....
If you can ignore some of the unnecessary pretentiousness (at night) this place is great! Go for lunch - much cooler vibe. Food is excellent: burgers were perfect in every way - high quality meat and soft buns. My friends mole hash was amazing and the tortillas were so fresh! Service is good if not a little formal.
We went for our anniversary and they made it very special! Food was wonderful and we were surprised by a special dessert as well. Will definitely be a favorite spot for us when in Sonoma.
Love this place! However, you wine list is short and very expensive. The cheapest bottle of red wine was a Merlot for $51. Next on the list was $56 and then everything else was $70 to very expensive!
There are plenty of great wines in the $40 range.
Your markup is excessive.
The food and service were excellent. Our favorite Sonoma restaurant.
One of our favorites but the service was uncharacteristically horrible.
Chalking it up to a fluke, will try again.
I’m a regular at EDK and took an out of town guest there. I love almost everything about the restaurant, but the noise level. You can’t carry on a conversation without raising your voice.
Soup was cold
Salmon was very raw
Server was in a bad mood
I have always enjoyed this restaurant....cheerful, lovely decor, great location, and good food
and service. This was the first time we sat outside on the patio on a warm day. It is an interior
space with plants all around, and umbrellas for shade. I had an asparagus salad with proscuitto
which was excellent, but couldn't find any prosciutto....So our outstanding waiter, Danny
brought me a small bowlful! Also had the burrata ...yummy!
Fabulous first dinner in Sonoma from Michigan
I came to the El Dorado with a group of friends for lunch. The ambiance on the patio was lovely, but the food was the star! We ended up ordering several entrees , shared them and thoroughly enjoyed each one. All afternoon we commented on how much we enjoyed trying several options. My favorite was the calamari, no, no, wait...the Burrata... no, no, wait... seriously, the mushroom flatbread!!
Our meal was delicious and the service was impeccable. Generous portions. Very pleasant ambiance. My husband's birthday dinner, so we were served a nice glass of bubbly on the house. We sat inside, but there is a lovely patio area for dining. Great location too on the Plaza. We have eaten at all the good restaurants in Sonoma and this one is at the top of the list.
Went for breakfast, which was completely delightful. We reviewed the dinner menu and the wine list, and decided that's where we wanted to dine for my wife's birthday in a little over a month. We ended up making a reservation at the hotel so we could enjoy dinner, all the amenities of the hotel, and another fabulous breakfast!
Still a go to place for Sonoma locals. The food is consistently good and service efficient. The kitchen could do better with a more varied menu. Frequent diners can soon be bored with the choices. Still easy to recommend that you dine here. Warmer weather brings the welcomed addition of a lovely patio.
We had a very good meal here and very attentive service, we would recommend it and would visit again.
Delightful meal and excellent service.
Great spot. Food is excellent, nice setting, good service. Will come back for sure.
I go often and it’s always a delightful experience. Great food and service and beautiful, open dining room. Great outdoor patio when warm.
I’ve had some not so amazing service during dinner
but the lunch team was pretty awesome. I wish I remembered the servers name because he was a pleasure. He Greeted the table within 3 minutes of seating, water 2 mins later, beverage order 5 minutes later. Drink deliver 5 mins later. Bread service came out before apps this time It was amazing!
Special menu request granted (vegan option)
He came to check on us at the appropriate times.
The new guy jack is very sweet!
My sister and I had a great lunch
El Dorado was excellent as always. Very busy on the Friday evening we were there. Food was uniformly good. Two of us had the steak, which was excellent. There could have been a few more vegetables on the plate. The mixed green salad was huge. The Rhubarb crisp dessert was mostly ice cream and rhubarb and very little crisp...I'm just saying! Enjoyable evening as always.
You absolutely have to order the truffle fries!!! They are probably the best I’ve had anywhere. The shisito peppers are also outstanding. Our server was excellent. We would definitely recommend coming here!
The food was good, but the noise level was a distracting. The service was excellent.
Always great food!
We were in Napa/Sonoma for a 3 day girls weekend & El Dorado Kitchen was tied with Girl & The Fig for our favorite meal! Two of us split the beet salad and risotto and the third woman had the carbonara. We couldn't stop talking about how delicious each dish was 2 days later! That risotto is what dreams are made of - our waiter was friendly, attentive & knowledgable about the menu and made sure I had a gluten and soy free dinner!
OK . . . so . . . El Dorado Kitchen (EDK) is good . . . not bad . . . just not great. It's a fun hang out for drinks with good bar food and great service or even for breakfast . . . but not the best in town (or even in the top 3) for dinner. It could be that it's a hotel restaurant, need I say more ?!
We eat out a least 4 to 5 nights a week . . . and in the town of Sonoma twice a week. We keep trying EDK every 4 or 5 months, but it just doesn't compare with other restaurants in town.
I had the steak and it was just a flavorless piece of meat. The night before we ate at Cafe La Haye where I had a fantastic meal/steak/experience.
Long story short . . . with restaurants in downtown Sonoma like . . . Girl and the Fig . . . Harvest Moon . . . and Cafe La Haye . . . there is no reason to go to EDK . . . unless that is the others are booked solid.
It is definitely a place to dine in the Sonoma Valley.
Service was very good. Waitperson very attentive. All our dishes were wonderful—the egg white omelette, the house mole hash and of course the truffle fries!! We definitely would go back !
We had my birthday dinner here and it was so wonderful! Food was delicious, fresh and well-executed and the ambiance and service was great. Will definitely come back again soon!
Great beet salad and great paella. can't wait to go back the next time we are in CA
wine list pricing was outrageous. Put a few value priced wines on your list.
Our luncheon was meeting up with old friends, so we had lots to talk about. The wait staff did not rush us, were very attentive, and we found every one very accommodating to any special request.
Great lunch spot! The menu was super, everything served just as described.
We left knowing we will be back!
Great service, very bad food, overpriced wine list.
Eggs Benedict were terrific
My friend and I had late morning brunch reservations. The dining room was no more than half full upon arrival. We began with mimosas, which arrived almost room temperature. We each ordered a starter and an entree, all of which were hot items. The server brought all four dishes to the table at the same time. The food was quite good; I'm sure the entrees would have been even better had they not sat at our table while we ate our starters. I did not expect to experience a basic service lapse in an upscale restaurant.
Israel was a great waiter! Great recommendation. They new I was coming in for my 7th anniversary so they printed that on the menu. Great touch!
