El Dorado Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Food is consistently good. That's the good news. But...service has really taken a nose-dive, with very perfunctory service geared towards turning tables quickly. But the worst is the noise. The acoustics are awful. With an open kitchen and bar and all hard surfaces, expect to leave with your ear drums bleeding. The last two times I've eaten there I specifically questioned a quiet table away from the kitchen and away from any large parties. Even the "quiet" tables were so noisy it was impossible to have a conversation without shouting. They have lots of large groups, bridal parties, etc. which are seated in the main dining area rather than a private room or enclosed area. I'm a local and have eaten here dozens of times...but I've reached my limit. No more!
When in Sonoma this is my go-to restaurant for lunch, brunch, and now dinner. I had a recent dinner with three out-of-area business associates who had never dined in the modern and Wine Country casual restaurant previously. The group enjoyed there meals from the appetizers, to main course, and dessert. The menu variety and evening specials appealed to everyone in our group. And "Rosie" our waiter paced our meal effortlessly and professionally. In summary another fine meal!
Love the EDK! It is a lovely space. This occasion was six very old good friends gathering for a birthday. We sat at the large communal table which was otherwise empty on the day we visited which certainly added to our qbility to have a lively conversation. Our waiter was super nice and helpful and gave us just the right amount of attention. Each meal was just delicious.
We visited for a small bday celebration, in the middle of a self-guided wine tour. The restaurant itself is beautiful with lots of light and an airy feel. The food was outstanding - fresh, light, and just beautiful to look at! The cocktails were divine. The service was excellent too. The kitchen took an extra long time preparing our dessert so the waitress brought out a beautiful poached pear dessert for us 'on the house' and then comped the dessert we ordered when it was finally ready. Overall we had a splendid time celebrating my bday with family.
A phone call to make a reservation was directed than extension that was not i service. Reservation was made online (confirmed) On arrival at restaurant, our name was not listed.
We were rated in the lounge area where the noise was deafening.
Fish and chips, which we both ordered, were 70% batter and the rest tiny strips of fish.
We've eaten this dish in a half-dozen countries and know what it should resemble and taste.
Sorry. Our previous experiences with EDK have been much better.
Everything was delicious - The salmon melted in your mouth. We hadn't had carpaccio in years and it was fantastic, as were the mushrooms. The only thing that we did not enjoy was the bread, it was tasteless - too much good bread out there not to have yummy bread. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable , we would for sure go back.
I am a local and I have been going to this restaurant since it has opened.
It was one of my top 5 favorites until 12/24/17.
I made reservations on the phone days before and was not seated in the main dining area, but in the cafe where the morning patrons and hotel customers come for coffee, etc.
This has never happened to me before. I would have rather not come at all. The gal on the phone ( who was not very smart) did not tell me that we, the over-flow, would be placed in that room.
It was loud and uncomfortable. We were NOT happy.
The food was not great. The only part of the meal that was good were the side dishes - The truffle Fries and brussel sprouts. My over priced steak was unflavored and on the chilly side. And eating our meal along with the strong smell of coffee was not a good combo.
EDK, please do not throw people in there any more evenings. Tacky.
The waitress was a doll though, I have to say. And the cocktails were delicious.
Unfortunately, I will never dine there again.
Once again, El Dorado Kitchen did not disappoint. I have eaten there about 8 times in the past six months and I never tire of the food. It is a constantly changing menu and it is always a treat to have breakfast, lunch or dinner there. The room is big and airy and yet there is no din. The staff is knowledgeable and the food is based on seasonal ingredients. We had the steak which was cooked perfectly, a delicious salad and a wonderful cauliflower soup with a poached pear with gingerbread crisp for desert.
What is there not to like?
