El Dorado Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We had went by during the day to check out the menu and were very excited but once we got there we realized the menu we had seen was the lunch menus. I asked the waiter if it was possible to get a dish from lunch he did not believe it was possible but asked anyway and found out they would be able to make it. The meal was excellent. They also went above and beyond giving us recommendations for the evening.
The noise level was high while we were there, but seemed like people talking loudly and just catching up and having dinner. Very good food, very good service from Kay, our server, and overall a good meal. The bill accidentally added a hundred bucks to our total, which we caught and was corrected, but it was kind of odd.
Casual place with great food and ideal location across from Sonoma Plaza. I had the Tuna Tartare...yummy flavor combination and my husband had the EDK burger...solid option although he didn't rave about it. We were there on Super Bowl Sunday and sat in the front room since they had an event that had the main restaurant reserved. The service was good, responsive but not hovering. We'll definitely go back when we're in Sonoma again.
We had a wonderful time for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was bustling! We were greeted by our waiter Gabriel, with menus that said Happy birthday with my name on it, then before we even ordered the GM, came over with a tasty little sparkling wine for a toast, followed by a amuse bouche from the chef. We also received a plateful of some delicious truffle fries to munch on while we waited for our dinner. After dinner I was treated to a little chocolate tidbit with a delicious raspberry sauce and a candle in it. (even though I had declined dessert from being so full)!
All our food was tasty and generous, the seafood was especially fresh tasting. The wine list had something for everyone including a offering from Spain, France and Italy, among the regional/local l wines. Some great values there too. Can't wait to visit again with friends from the neighborhood. Thanks to the great staff!
We ordered the seafood Paella but had to send it back because it was overcooked.. The server was very good about taking that and the overcooked lobster back. Its a surprise because this is one of our standard restaurants to choose in Sonoma as locals and we have never sent food back.
Once a year, we get time to stop by. Always a treat. Wife has food alergies so is cautious and knows she misses out on some treats. But not this time! Butternut Squash soup: Mmmm. Puff pastry, melted cheese, pepperoni top: would have never seen her eat such! Risotto had her saying wonderful praise. I was happy too.
Friendly, not pressed for time. Plenty of time to enjoy the meal.
We enjoyed our first visit! We were just having a bite to eat in between wine tastings. El Dorado Kitchen has a lovely feel. It is comfortable but elegant. There are lots of choices - heavy & lighter. My husband had a burger, which was delicious while I enjoyed the seasonal Risotto, which was really wonderful. The service was just right - attentive but not pushy. We enjoyed it very much & would definitely come back when in the area!
I have eaten at EDK many times, and it holds a unique position in lunch dining in that it is a more modern, and more sophisticated place to dine than other restaurants in Sonoma. I enjoy special or business lunches there for that reason. In a pre-emptive strike, I called the restaurant in advance to get a window table on the Spain Street side of the restaurant, as i wanted to have a table that was relatively quiet for a business conversation, as I get stuck in the other "back" room sometimes where they put families and loud children. I made this request a few times, and upon arriving early for my reservations, there was a lot of chatter among the host staff and low and behold we were put in the back room with the families and children, with no acknowledgement from the staff. It was so loud, children crawling on the floor, screaming etc. Very unpleasant environment to try and have a business conversation.
Food is consistently good. That's the good news. But...service has really taken a nose-dive, with very perfunctory service geared towards turning tables quickly. But the worst is the noise. The acoustics are awful. With an open kitchen and bar and all hard surfaces, expect to leave with your ear drums bleeding. The last two times I've eaten there I specifically questioned a quiet table away from the kitchen and away from any large parties. Even the "quiet" tables were so noisy it was impossible to have a conversation without shouting. They have lots of large groups, bridal parties, etc. which are seated in the main dining area rather than a private room or enclosed area. I'm a local and have eaten here dozens of times...but I've reached my limit. No more!
When in Sonoma this is my go-to restaurant for lunch, brunch, and now dinner. I had a recent dinner with three out-of-area business associates who had never dined in the modern and Wine Country casual restaurant previously. The group enjoyed there meals from the appetizers, to main course, and dessert. The menu variety and evening specials appealed to everyone in our group. And "Rosie" our waiter paced our meal effortlessly and professionally. In summary another fine meal!
Love the EDK! It is a lovely space. This occasion was six very old good friends gathering for a birthday. We sat at the large communal table which was otherwise empty on the day we visited which certainly added to our qbility to have a lively conversation. Our waiter was super nice and helpful and gave us just the right amount of attention. Each meal was just delicious.
