Lovely evening celebrating my father's birthday. Loved the kale and brussel sprout salad. A bit disappointed they were out of the lamb shank, but the shrimp was a good substitute.

Wonderful shrimp bowl with the best bread I’ve ever had anywhere. Really good lobster bisque and pork tenderloin with banana polenta. My friend said the sea bass was the best she had ever had. Fresh handmade margaritas.

One of the best restaurants in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Every time I share this gem with visitors from our of town they rave about it for months afterward and always ask if we can go there the next time they're in town. Outstanding food only surpassed by the outstanding service.

I have been a fan of El Charro for years but sadly the Restaurant has changed. The formerly complimentary signature sticky buns are now $12 an order. Three were brought to our table and I was shocked for 3 little buns @ $12 according to the server. Our waiter said the offering was complimentary... no charge but the young server apparently did not know this.
My trout was delicious but covered with a heavy crust of almonds that overwhelmed the delicacy of the fish.
The waiter kept trying to push more drinks this became tiresome.
We saw the brief desert menu and decided not to order. Server explained that the Restaurant was working on new additions. I would have thought the older offerings remain on the menu until they were replaced.
I have not been back to El Charro after a miserable rack of Lamb disaster 2 years ago .
The order came with a plug of white fat running through the center of the chop.
A 2nd replacement order delivered more of the same... was the chef blind?
I sent that back but everyone was finished... so I gave up.
The management was indifferent to my plight which really made the experience really offputting.
I thought the new slick and floral interior decor was lovely. We asked the young hostess for an antacid. She never came back to us to say none were available.
We were given two boxes of food but no bag.
It seems that customer service is sorely lacking . Prices up, menu shrunk, indifferent service in beautiful surroundings. Pity

The setting here is old-time Phoenix. Lot of history here, which is probably the most distinctive thing about the restaurant. The service is good and the staff is solicitous. The food is solid - old time recipes in keeping with the character of the restaurant. The shrimp in pepper sauce appetizer was terrific with toasted croutons to mop up the wonderful sauce. Crab cakes were solid. Grouper entrée was good in ginger sauce but the fish was somewhat overcooked and so a bit dry.

The pricing is on the high side and the food is just solid, so you come here for the ambiance and history and just recognize the trade off.

GORGEOUS patio setting, great food (and why don't other restaurants serve sticky buns as a side?!). A great place for a birthday celebration!

The only negative was that one entree was not prepared correctly. It was remedied after a bit of a wait which was awkward for all the dinners. There was no extra effort to make up for the server’smistake such as a free dessert.

Very nice place, attentive & informed wait staff. Menu attractive and right blend of variety while keeping it simple to make choices. Decor and environment both inside and outside is top notch. Only minor complaint is the beef rib dish was too salty. The pasta/seafood entree was perfect. Nice touch with complementary dessert after dinner (anniversary). We'd definitely go back.

I’ve been there many times. Hosted special events there but dinner expensive and service horrible. I don’t mind an expense if there’s value for the bucks but we spent 3 hours mostly waiting for drinks, bread and, the ribeye which was excellent arrived after 1 1/2 hours of waiting it was warm.

We had a wonderful meal. The service was lovely, we were sat next to a fireplace that kept us warm on the cool night. The setting was just so beautiful. As for the food, the beef stroganoff was good, but the filet with crab and asparagus added was melt in your mouth. The veggies on the side were perfect. It is a pricey restaurant, but it was special and very lovely.

We are from out of town, but for probably 40+ years our family has made a point to have at least one night at El Corro. My father knew the original owners and they treated us like locals. It was just a great experience and we love the things the new owners have done. When in Scottsdale, El Chorro is a must.

This was our first time dining at El Chorro. The evening was mild so we were able to sit outside under the heat lamps. They have two very large patio areas with nice ambiance. Our only complaint was the level of noise from the nearby bar area. The menu offers a good variety of options and the food was excellent overall. I was a little disappointed with the flavor of the beef stroganoff but the ingredients were high quality. The service we received was first rate. We were pleased with our experience and plan to return.

My sister was in town for the holidays - it will be our last Christmas together because my husband and I are moving out of the country. It was a beautiful place to toast all of the family Christmases we have spent in Phoenix. The food was excellent and our waiter, Nate, took great care of us. I highly recommend El Chorro!

So beautiful and romantic! We sat by the fireplace and were given a “wrap” in addition, to keep us warm. It was incredibly beautiful and very cozy! Alfredo, our server, was attentive and friendly. The salmon was great too. Overall, we had a fantastic night and will definitely return!

We went Christmas Day and had the $70 price fixed dinner. It’s generous to say it was mediocre at best. A family of 5 and the tab was $500. The food was pedestrian from the bland winter salad to the inedible French onion soup. I ordered the turkey dinner and it was paltry and tasted like it came from a Boston chicken. I wouldn’t return to this place ever. Incredibly disappointing given the expense.

Have wanted to go for years. Needed a nice place to have xmas dinner with my wife and two year old daughter. Place was gorgeous. Hostesses appeared clueless on where to seat us for our reservation. Food was okay at best. Was super disappointed for 70 a head for a three course meal. Most disappointing were the infamous sticky rolls, didn’t seem to be very fresh. Bottom line I wanted to live this place, but the whole experience was kind of a letdown. Doubt I will venture back.

Beautiful venue, but inexcusable, sloppy mistakes with their food. I would have only given 1 star if they didn’t do the right thing, which was comp our meal.
My husband and I went out for dinner on Christmas Day. I spent a lot of time researching places that were open. We didn’t want a buffet, but we would have been better off at Denny’s.

First, they sat us outside as it was a beautiful day. The fire was crackling, it was wonderful, except that our table was right next to where all the service staff hung out, so we could hear them talking. Much more desirable tables were all around us and empty during the entire 2 hours we were there.

Second, our onion soup was brought out lukewarm. When we find someone to bring us another, I don’t get a soup spoon and no one offers ground pepper.

Third, the main course: my turkey and mashed potatoes are lukewarm and my husband’s filet is well-done! They take both plates back and start over. It’s fixed — although I swear the mashed potatoes are right out of a box.

Fourth, I order pecan tart, and it tastes like something brought in from the frozen food section of Safeway. It doesn’t taste like anything I’d serve at home.

All this for $70 per person + taxes and tip! I would never go back to that restaurant. It’s a shame because it’s so pretty, but it’s beauty is just skin deep.

I was with my 86 year mom and we did not order any wine which clearly annoyed the waiter and when my mom and I split a salad he was not thrilled. Her chicken livers were very fatty and the cranberry pie was awful. I grew up down the street and have been coming here since the 70s. I enjoyed the old. El Chorro with its neighborhood feel. This one I didn't care for which is sad to me and my family.

TERRIBLE!!!!’
It was our Anniv and they ignored us!
It took 2.5 hours for dinner.
Waiter never offered bread! We had to beg for another glass of wine! The waiter was awful!!!! We were next to a LARGE group of
Obnoxious large mouth women. They should have been in a private dine room!!! Manager never said a word !
We had to move tables 3 times.
Waiter never offered a dessert and we reminded him it was a special night.
Restaurant could care less and NEVER asked how dinner was when we left!!!!

Do not go to this place if you have a special occasion. They are very rude!!!

We should get a refund for destroying our special night!!!!!
