The restaurant and event venues have recently been restored, renovated and enhanced to further preserve this landmark’s rustic charm. El Chorro became the first restaurant in Arizona to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

We had a 6 & 12 year old with us.
We would have wanted more reasonable main corses and more Mexican type food.
We did not go home hungry......what we had was great!
Always a great brunch!
El Chorro never disappoints. Fantastic atmosphere to celebrate our mother's birthday.
Just moved back to Arizona and could not wait till we could get back to El Charro, and it did not disappoint. Just wish it were cool enough to eat outside, just not the same. Will be back in the fall when it cools off.
Always good and service is always top notch. One of my favorite places to eat in the valley
Very good experience. Summer crowd was sparse. We selected salmon from the summer menu. Very nice. Salads were all excellent. Wines were price positioned at 2X retail which for the most is considerably less than most restaurants in town. Highly recommend.
If you have allergies or gluten and dairy intolerances they have very few options. However the wait staff are lovely and try hard to accommodate
We enjoyed our food & the overall experience. Our only complaint was the dining room A/C was frigid
Sunday brunch was delicious. We had the green tamales and scrambled eggs which were so authentic and tasty. We splurged on the macadamia nut sauce pancakes! The sauce is decadent!
The entire staff is super friendly and make you feel very welcomed.
The manager, Ryan Prentiss gave us a tour of the place, which is very historical and showed us all the beautiful western artwork by various artists.
If you have never been here, it is a historical restaurant that is magnificent and a must see!
And the food and drinks are fantastic!
Denise and staff gave is one of the best dinning experiences. We will definitely go back!
My husband and I were treating our two very good friends to dinner in celebration of them having become married late that afternoon. They sat us in the dining room by the window next to the patio, which was very comfortable, and immediately served us with four glasses of a delightful, light champagne. My husband and I ordered the filet mignon (grilled perfectly as ordered) with scalloped potatoes and grilled asparagus and carrots. The house salad I ordered surprised me --- a mix of fresh greens with a hint of mint and tossed with a very pleasant oil and vinegar dressing. Our married guests each raved about their fried/roasted chicken and beef stroganoff, each stating it was the best they had ever eaten. The service was outstanding, too. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, host, waitress and bus-man. They were all perfectly attentive, making us feel welcome and comfortable. If you have never had the opportunity to enjoy a dining experience at El Chorro, I highly recommend you do
It was amazing!
Food and service were excellent as always. The only disappointment was that they only served me one sticky bun. Just one!!
Such a gem! I’ve been going to El Chorro for over 35 years. Such a special place!
This place is perfect. The setting is gorgeous with views of the mountains and desert landscapes. The sticky buns are to die for, but so is everything else. Eggs Benedict was superb as was the huevos rancheros. The staff is attentive and helpful. A great place for Sunday Brunch.
You may wonder why I rated overall poor after the other higher ratings. My wife and I have bee to El Chorro on numerous occasions but this last visit was the most disappointing. I ordered the fresh catch and was told they had run out. I then switched to the featured salmon dish and was told they had run out. How can you be out of these two entrees for a 6:45 pm reservation on a Saturday night? What is even more offensive, no one from management even bothered to apologize. This is not the El Chorro we have come to enjoy on so many occasions. Will I go back, probably, but no time soon. There are too many other good restaurants in the area.
Everything as usual was great- when the misters were turned off we got a little warm
Great place, the food is great and the location is perfect.
This is one of my favorites in AZ. I have eaten there quite a bit because of the beautiful setting and great food. This last visit the food didn't live up to what I had experienced previously. Overall still good just not great which it typically is!
We have always enjoyed El Chorro until our last visit. On June 19 4 of us celebrated a birthday there and were very disappointed. We all ordered the beef stroganoff and it was terrible. It didn't even resemble beef stroganoff. The tough meat was in big chunks. The sour cream was not simmered in the stroganoff, but was a side order that needed to be dumped in. I would not have called this beef stroganoff. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't good.
My 65 th birthday!
It was a very nice time.
Always enjoy El Chorro. The only disappointment was the prime rib being taken off the menu for the summer.
My wife wrote the previous comments. Her meal was very good. I had a different experience. I've been dining at El Chorro since the 1960's. My food has always been good to excellent. This time, not so. The first disappointment was not having the prime rib available on a Saturday night. My selection was the seasonal fish, which was explained to me to be a variety of sea bass. Normally I like sea bass. First, it was served skin-side up, not a pleasant presentation. I've eaten at many fine restaurants and never has a grilled skin-on fish served skin-side up. Most importantly, the meat in the center of the cut was a mushy texture.
In spite of the poor food, our waiter was attentive and the ambiance was good.
Our whole experience was sub-par all around with the most disappointing aspect being the food. We ordered the famous chateaubriand for two along with the fish special which was a type of fish flown in from Australia. The chateaubriand consisted of four slices of meat surrounded by some small potatoes, asparagus, and carrots that had been loosely thrown together for garnish. To be fair, the meat tasted very good, but all the vegetables were undercooked and a far cry from how this dish used to be presented in the past. The fish special was almost inedible. It was undercooked and it had so much gelatinous fat in the middle that my wife, who’s very much a texture person, couldn’t finish her entree. For dessert, we ordered both the peach and the apple pies and neither was good. The peaches were flavorless and the crust had more flavor. The apples tasted like they came from a can you get at the grocery store. To top this whole experience off, our waitress, about a quarter of the way into the meal, adopted a fake English accent and proceeded to speak to us in this voice the rest of the time. It quickly became irritating and distracting. There was a time when a dinner at the El Chorro Lodge meant a certain level of professionalism and a true fine dining experience with classic cuisine. However, after our experience, it will be a long time before we return...if ever again.
Loved the meals, little overpriced for what is included, sticky buns were amazing
A bit pricy, nice wait staff, decent, but unremarkable food. Went for dinner expecting a bit more in-terms of choices and the air vents were blowing very cold.
Took Nana to brunch for her Birthday. Great food and service! We have been a few time and it never disappoints.
Our server, Jaymi, was attentive and there when we needed her. We had a lovely table visit with the manager Nate and GM, Ryan welcomed us in and showed great hospitality. Lovely dining experience because the food was amazing, too!
Great ambiance and food. Loved bringing our friends here. Thank you!
Our waiter was very attentive. Beautiful scenery and very good food.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at this restaurant as a matter fact or returning this weekend
My college-age daughter and I went to El Chorro - a favorite - Thursday night. Anticipating warm temperatures, I made a reservation for “inside seating” (you are given the option). When we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess and two other women. I gave them our name, and was again asked “Inside or outside.” I said “inside.” One of the women then asked if I was sure. I said I thought so. Then, the women all said it was going to cool off, the sun was about to set, etc, and it would be great. I asked if being seated INSIDE, we could be close to the outside/window, and that was dismissed. We relented, and sat outside. Yes, it cooled off, yes, the sunset was lovely, BUT (and this is a huge “BUT”) there were millions and millions of bugs that landed on us and crawled up us, starting about halfway through dinner. My daughter didn’t want to make a scene by asking to move inside, since CLEARLY the employees hadn’t wanted us to choose inside. As we were finishing, another waitress came to the group seated next to us with a can of Deep Woods OFF and sprayed all their legs, saying, “Oh, they are all over you!!” After chatting about the bug problem, the waitress didn’t ask us if we needed to be sprayed, and when ours came back, she didn’t say anything. We paid and left. When we got home, my daughter had more that 20 bites on each leg, and about a dozen on her back. I had a few on my legs, arms, and one on my face. By the next day, my daughter’s legs were swollen, and the bites were turning a yellowish color. Later, I got a call from Carly (one of the 3 women at reception) asking about our experience. I told her what happened. She didn’t know what to say - literally, was completely silent awhile - but then said THEY KNOW it’s a problem and “Usually spray before dinner service begins.” Did not say “I’m sorry.” She did say “next time” I can “just ask to move inside,” and they “will accommodate” us. Hmmm.... really??
There will not be a next time, Carly.
Lovely front patio, fabulous food and super waitress. The price is just fine. Highly recommend this Arizona gem
Great wine selection and fairly priced.
Service was also great. Same for ambience.
Food was good, portions on the small side and overpriced.
Fantastic place! Love the bubbles and juice option! ;) Patio was gorgeous and staff was so friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back next time we're in Scottsdale!
Yes the atmosphere is wonderful. The food is good but it isn't great. Honestly with some better seasoning, this place could be stellar.
We dined outside looking at Camelback mountain. The food was amazing and the service was great!
Our food was cold
I m hoping our experience was unusual. I love the atmosphere and will be back, but hope to have a better experience. 1st, with a name like El Chorro, we assumed it would be Mexican Faire, which it is not. We got a simple fish dinner each and it was expensive at $43 and $39. If we are paying that amount for a dinner we expect great service. We sat at the bar and had servers rolling silverware in front of us making it hard for bartenders to notice our empty drinks. A fan was blowing directly into my back causing my hair to fly each time it oscillated in our direction - plus it was loud. We ordered an appetizer which never came out. Bartenders weren't attentive. The bathrooms were messy with water and paper everywhere. Again, because of the outdoor atmosphere we would give it another chance, but if we get the same experience we wont be back a 3rd time.
