El Chorro Ratings and Reviews
We came to El Chorro expecting a formal, pleasant, Sunday brunch. This was the first gathering of our family since all had arrived in town for Christmas. Here are the things we were so greatly disappointed with:
-much too long before anyone greeted our table
-a man came, we requested more sticky buns, he advised he was not our server. later he advised he was our server
-we requested more coffee repeatedly and did ask for a carafe*. server told him, 'when youre at home you can have a carafe*, when you come here, i'll refill your coffee cup.' incredibly rude, very inappropriate
-server unknowledgable on menu
-two orders were wrong, server could not explain
None of us will come again or recommend El Chorro.
Our entire experience from start to finish was amazing.
-Excellent service: our server, Damien, took the time to chat, make recommendations, and get to know us a bit. He had many tables, but he was efficient, knowledgeable, and never lost a beat.
-Food: hands down one of the best dinners we've experienced in a while. Everything was perfectly prepared and tasted amazing
-Cost/Value: pricey, but for the experience, it was worth it. $80 a head (wine...)
We wanted to find a place with the look and feel of old Arizona. El Chorro was just the place. The environment was cozy, even in an expansive facility, and the food was delicious. One of us had the Burrata and tomatoes, which were delicious, followed by the NY Strip Steak, which was perfectly prepared. The other had the iceberg wedge with blue cheese and bacon. The blue cheese had a lovely flavor and was complemented by tomatoes and shredded cucumber. This was followed by a main course of duck, which was moist, and very flavorful. As a diabetic, I couldn't enjoy the chocolate cake my companion had for dessert, but they gladly created a mixed berry bowl which topped off the meal perfectly.
With a reservation made prior to arrival, we were seated at a bar table right next to the dessert buffet. For a lunch buffet with the only service was beverage, in our case, water, adding a 20% gratuity to the bill was a rip-off! 130 bucks for 3 to serve yourself at a bad table was not satisactory at all.
We have only been twice and both times were fantastic. Food is great, service is great, atmosphere is upscale without being too stuffy. We have dined on the patio before and are looking forward to getting back there for happy hour as well as brunch. Great place for celebrating a special occasion.
The ambience has improved greatly with the growth of the shrubbery since the remodel job. The sticky buns are great! I ordered a goat cheese and beet salad. I live these salads usually. I was surprised to see this small salad brought on on a narrow long plate.
It should not be listed as an entree salad. It is more like a side salad to ago with an entree. It was not as good as those I've had elsewhere ... including Great Britain and Ireland this summer. I ordered a sundae with brownie to make up the calories. It was also a disappointment. The brownies did not taste homemade. There were more like something from a grocery store. It was generous in size, though. Desserts are over priced. At $10,it should be spectacular. Not!
Our evening at the EL Chorro was fantastic. The service matched or bettered all the fine places we have dined. The drinks were great and the appetizers and entries were served at the correct time and all was delicious.
This is a perfect place for fun nights out and for bringing guests and business associates.
Couldn't have been happier. We sat on the patio at 7:30 and were kept very comfortable by the amount of heaters in the space. Everything from the aps, salads and entrees were absolutely fabulous. Excellent service and ambiance for a great celebratory outing. We've been here before and will be again many times.
Steaks are great and the short ribs are also fantastic.
If you're looking for the perfect spot for celebrating the holidays (or any other occasion) El Chorro is it! Everything on Thanksgiving was delightful, from the setting, views and atmosphere to the scrumptious food, desserts...all at a VERY reasonable price! We had the best time. The service is fabulous as well. We'll be back....soon!
Opted for Thanksgiving dinner at El Chorro and was very disappointed. For the price, the quality was no where near what I was used to in the past 1980's and 1990's. Turkey was dry, stuffing reminded me of something out of a box and the deserts were nothing to write home about. The only redeeming quality was the company at my table!
We're thankful we can afford to have Thanksgiving dinner in this lovely place. It's one of the best patio dining places in the Valley & our AZ weather didn't disappoint us either. We thought our traditional turkey dinner was good even if it was more than we would normally eat. The service was good. We left full & happy.
My wife and I, for the first time, ate out at a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner this year and chose El Chorro. We were seated outside, and the views were as gorgeous as I had hoped for. We both ordered the traditional Thanksgiving meal, and the food was wonderfully prepared - the Butternut Squash & Granny Smith Apple bisque was great and the stuffing even almost tasted like home!
Only complaints would be that our server was a bit slow to take our order and cash out even though the restaurant was only mildly busy while we were there. I was also surprised that valet parking wasn't complimentary (as it is so many places in town).
We'd come back to El Chorro again, but probably more for special occasions vs. everyday dining.
My favorite dinner table for Thanksgiving! Three menu choices --- all excellent . Perfect to share. How can you not love sitting outside with a beautiful view of the mountains when your friends back home are braving the snow! Service was very attentive and festive!
Revitalized and expanded without sacrificing the old-school ambiance. Beautiful views from the decks. Set back far enough from the road to make the setting quiet. Traditional architecture and patios. But with a great menu and superb preparation since it was rebuilt 4 years ago. A fabulous place for afternoon or evening meals if you want to be outdoors.
El Chorro was a wonderful place to celebrate our son's 19th birthday. The wait staff was fabulous (especially Leopold) and provided excellent suggestions. Everyone in our party of 8 commented on their dining experience from fantastic food to a wonderful location. It was also very pleasant to receive a phone call the following day from the restaurant inquiring as to how our evening progressed and if we had an excellent customer experience - very nice touch.
I frequent your restaurant two to three times a month. Love the whole deal! I fell in love with the roasted chicken. Ordered it again last week. This time it arrived sitting in a bed of white milky citrus sauce and totally ruined it. I would love it if he waitress informed us of the change and/or offered the old style. Second complaint. We have had Broccoli or Broccolinni almost every time we have eaten dinner at your restaurant. I asked the waitress if I could get it, she said no. I asked why I have had it before? She argued (somewhat snippedly) we have never served Broccoli nor Broccolinni. Funny, when I got my plate, it had broccoli in the mix. Hmmm? Maybe make sure the help understands the options.
I had friends visiting from out of town, so I wanted to choose someplace for dinner that would capture the best of the "old world" Phoenix: outdoor dining, laid back (but in a "unwind" way, not "paper napkins" sense), and great food informed by southwest flavors. El Chorro was just the ticket.
The staff went over and above expectations for my wife's birthday. They were sincerely friendly and everyone made her fell very special. The ambience and the historical feeling is incredible and the food was very good. The outdoor dining patio is gorgeous. The experience could not have been better.
El Chorro has stood the test of time. Excellent food and service. Both indoor and outdoor dining. Nestled between Camelback and Mummy Mountains it has been there since the 1930's when customers would walk across the desert from Camelback in for food and beverage. The atmosphere is charming and the evening memorable.
We are "old time" Phoenicians and always liked this place. With the latest expansion and re-furbishing it is now truly a World Class One of a Kind restaurant for special occasions and casual Arizona style dining.
Recently we had over 100 guests at our 50th Anniversary celebration in the large pavilion, with Bar and Brunch service. It was a fabulous success.
Thank you El Chorro, we love you!
