El Chorro Ratings and Reviews
We took Mom here for her 88th birthday. She and Dad dined at El Chorro for over 40 years and this, sadly, is the last time we will ever dine there. Initially, the hostess promised to bring Mom a brochure with the written history of the place, because she wanted to share some stories and facts with us. The brochure never came.
The server was friendly, but he was slow. When he brought the signature "sticky buns" to the table, there were three tiny little buns in a huge basket. It was comical. For years the sticky buns were brought to the table in abundance, as well as a relish tray (they don't do the relish tray anymore). Then if you ask for any additional sticky buns, you are charged an outrageous amount. The food was served cool, not hot, not even warm. We were also shocked that the restaurant added a gratuity to our bill without advising us.
The only positive thing about this experience was that the patio is still lovely.
So sorry that they have discontinued patio seating for cocktails and appetizers. We have enjoyed both meals and drinks/appetizers on the patio over the years. The way they have set it up now reminds me of a banquet setting. Plus having the bar area so close to the dining table creates more noise. I hope they reconsider the current arrangement.
A perfect place for celebrating a special occasion. The staff was attentive, knowledgable, and very helpful. I am gluten intolerant and I had no trouble finding dishes that were great tasting, but also met my needs. We were called the day before the reservation to confirm that we would be there, check to see if we were celebrating something special and to see if anyone in our party had special dietary needs! Wow! I have never experienced that level of service before. When our server arrived at our table he had already been informed of our special circumstances.
Despite having been around for 80 years, I found El Chorro to be up to date and fresh-looking. The patio dining has to be among the best, given the time of year. We didn't make the bar scene but it looked inviting. I appreciated the calmness of the establishment, lending itself to conversation, unlike many venues today. I am definitely going back.
While on a group trip we decided to come here for a group brunch. Everyone's meal was phenomenal! We devoured the mini sticky buns in the pastry basket and ordered a dozen to go!
The views from the patio were beyond beautiful.
The service was excellent too.
I look forward to my next visit so I can come back for brunch and dinner!
El Chorro has become perhaps our favorite restaurant in the valley. This was our 3rd time to the restaurant and the food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. The outside seating has great ambience. We started with the Shrimp Pepper Pot appetizer served with crusty bread, sooooo yummy. Their signature dish of Trout Armandine was one of the best trout entrees we've ever had. Of course, the sticky buns...... ymmmm
Perfect ambiance is what El Chorro has to offer in addition to great food and fabulous service. We dined there for restaurant week and had a fabulous dinner. Our waiter Brandon was funny and engaging and by the end of our meal, Tracy the manager came over to chat. We had a table by the fireplace and it was a perfect evening all the way around. The steak and mashed potato special for restaurant week was the best steak we have had in the Valley so far. We have lived here for a year, and this is a place we always come back to because it is so comfortable and of course the view is fantastic.
We chose this restaurant for an anniversary dinner. It was moderately crowded when we arrived but as our reservation was for outside the noise level was quite acceptable. The service was mediocre at best for the menu prices. The food was truly disappointing. We ordered a caesar salad which had little to no taste. I ordered one of their specialties, beef stroganoff . The Meat was tough and dry. My husband ordered another specialty, their beef short ribs which was also very dry. They served us a complimentary dessert which was again mediocre in taste. The prices are quite high and we expected much better quality and preparation for what we paid. I have since asked friends about their experience at El Chorro and they have concurred that it has changed and no longer has the reputation from prior years.
They put out way too many dinners. It's like a bus stop. You can't put out a quality product at that volume. It's more like banquet food. Lon's & A Different Point Of View's settings, views and food are far superior.
Plus, they add a 20% gratuity for a party of 2. We generally leave that, however, we feel it is up to us to decide.
