Lovely evening celebrating my father's birthday. Loved the kale and brussel sprout salad. A bit disappointed they were out of the lamb shank, but the shrimp was a good substitute.

Wonderful shrimp bowl with the best bread I’ve ever had anywhere. Really good lobster bisque and pork tenderloin with banana polenta. My friend said the sea bass was the best she had ever had. Fresh handmade margaritas.

One of the best restaurants in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Every time I share this gem with visitors from our of town they rave about it for months afterward and always ask if we can go there the next time they're in town. Outstanding food only surpassed by the outstanding service.

I have been a fan of El Charro for years but sadly the Restaurant has changed. The formerly complimentary signature sticky buns are now $12 an order. Three were brought to our table and I was shocked for 3 little buns @ $12 according to the server. Our waiter said the offering was complimentary... no charge but the young server apparently did not know this.
My trout was delicious but covered with a heavy crust of almonds that overwhelmed the delicacy of the fish.
The waiter kept trying to push more drinks this became tiresome.
We saw the brief desert menu and decided not to order. Server explained that the Restaurant was working on new additions. I would have thought the older offerings remain on the menu until they were replaced.
I have not been back to El Charro after a miserable rack of Lamb disaster 2 years ago .
The order came with a plug of white fat running through the center of the chop.
A 2nd replacement order delivered more of the same... was the chef blind?
I sent that back but everyone was finished... so I gave up.
The management was indifferent to my plight which really made the experience really offputting.
I thought the new slick and floral interior decor was lovely. We asked the young hostess for an antacid. She never came back to us to say none were available.
We were given two boxes of food but no bag.
It seems that customer service is sorely lacking . Prices up, menu shrunk, indifferent service in beautiful surroundings. Pity

The setting here is old-time Phoenix. Lot of history here, which is probably the most distinctive thing about the restaurant. The service is good and the staff is solicitous. The food is solid - old time recipes in keeping with the character of the restaurant. The shrimp in pepper sauce appetizer was terrific with toasted croutons to mop up the wonderful sauce. Crab cakes were solid. Grouper entrée was good in ginger sauce but the fish was somewhat overcooked and so a bit dry.

The pricing is on the high side and the food is just solid, so you come here for the ambiance and history and just recognize the trade off.
