The experience was excellent, and that is why I visit every time I go to Scottsdale whether for business or pleasure. Our waitress was very good, and that is why all in my group were pleased and desire to return in future.
Everything was outstanding! Service was excellent, food superb, atmosphere- gorgeous!
I love El Charro-have been going there for 40 years. Food and ambience always wonderful. Our server, JC, started out great-very nice and attentive. I could tell he was sort of rushing us, though. We ordered wine and apps-enjoyed those for a while. Ordered dinner and that’s when service went down hill. He never checked on us after food was set down and never asked if we wanted another bottle of wine-which we would have ordered. He did have some large tables which, I’m guessing, is why he was rushing us in the beginning.
Support staff was great-always had full water glass.
Not a deal breaker-I will always go back to El Charro, but just disappointing.
Great patio with views of camelback mtn! Perfect for sunset.
We love the patio seating with the mountain view. The grounds are beautiful. Our waitress and service was excellent as was our food. It was special to have the manager welcome us at our table.. Our daughter in Minnesota has found your restaurant on line ((randomly) and has given us a gift card twice which was so much appreciated because we don't normally dine at upscale restaurants so these are very special times. We love dining at El Chorro!
Our server Brandon was amazing. The staff Knew that I had a birthday celebration coming so they made sure that it was special and brought champagne. They even called me afterwards ask our experience was
Took a friend from out of town to El Chorro for Sunday Brunch. We had a lovely brunch and she ordered sticky buns to take back home. El Chorro never disappoints.
We came here for brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. The host staff was friendly and excited to receive us, and our reservation was honored. We were seated near one of the outdoor fireplaces which the hostess said they would light for us, as they normally don't that early, but it had rained that morning. A busboy lit the fireplace, but the flame was very low and it smelled strongly of gas. The flame disappeared and I called over our server who then properly lit the fireplace and said it was a good thing I called him over. That was the most engaged our server was during our visit. I ordered the huevos rancheros if they could be made without pork. He said he could hold the chorizo, and was going to check if the beans had pork in them, but then our orders arrived, so we had to call him over to confirm that the beans were free of pork. Later my mother in law wanted more cream cheese and he was no where to be found. It was my husband's birthday and our server brought a little dessert with a candle and a chocolate placard that read "Happy Anniversary." That pretty much sums up our experience. We were able to sing "Happy Birthday" to my husband, but clearly our server was not paying much attention to us. I wouldn't return, I would go to Elements at Sanctuary.
Events will take precedent over reservations, so be aware of that. Especially with weather. Not many choices for teens.
Short ribs are fantastic!
Wonderful ambiance, friendly service, and great meal. Love the spacious outdoor dining areas. The sticky buns included with the meal were an extra sweet added treat, yum!
Vicki was amazing! She really made our experience, with great recommendations, friendly and engaging. We were there to celebrate a birthday and it was a lovely experience.
This is a good restaurant, server we had was so so but food was good, great Charcuterie Board! Need to be a little more attentive to service but this is a good place to eat.
El Chorro was highly recommended by a neighbor and friend in our Michigan hometown of Grand Haven, and it lived up to its billing. Beautiful grounds and welcoming patios with glowing fireplaces provided a stunning backdrop in the shadows of Camelback Mountain. The service provided by our waitress, Jennifer, was exemplary. The three seafood choices we made -- salmon, trout and jumbo shrimp -- were prepared beautifully and tasted even better than they looked. I'm always a bit cynical when I see an establishment boasting that it is a "destination" place, El Chorro is truly a destination dining spot for the Valley of the Sun.
Unfortunate experience took an out-of-town guest for happy hour our server was indifferent or overworked neither one worked.
The beer was flat, ( it appeared to have been pre-poured prior to our arrival) Same thing with the sliders that we ordered, just warm.
Maybe just a really off night !
Everything was excellent although there is a slight odor of natural gas near the outdoor fireplace near the entrance. Also the music was too loud.
Restaurant accommodated our request for table by fireplace. Great view of mountain too. Excellent selection of wines. Braised short ribs are delicious. This is on our list of ten favorite restaurants in the world.
Excellent place for Brunch.
The patio is amazing. It was a perfect day and the food is a stand out.
Our annual visit to one of our favourite restaurants when visiting Scottsdale. We got seated right next to a noisy wedding which took away from the evening which we were anticipating.
I hadn’t been to El Chorro in years, but a friend suggested it, so I made a reservation for five people thinking the ambience would be nice (one can actually hear the conversation at the table), but the food average. Was I surprised. The food was outstanding. Everyone was impressed w/their meal. Our waiter Shawn was perfect. He knew when we needed service and when to leave us alone. One of the owners stopped by to introduce himself and see if there was anything we needed. It was such a pleasant experience, I’ll definitely go back soon. The place can be a great for a romantic dinner for two or, in our case, simply a group of friends getting together for dinner. It’s definitely at the top of my list when friends and family come to town. I plan on trying it for lunch soon, as well. I think there were two wedding dinners going on at the same time and still our dinners were presented in a timely fashion and were cooked to perfection.
Excellent. Loved the outdoor seating
We did not have a good experience. Our reservation was late at 830, the reception ladies were edgy, we had to wait for a table to be set so we approached the bar for a cocktail, the bartender was distracted and paid little attention to our order and that took too long then we waited for our dinner for over 45 minutes while the restaurant emptied leaving our table as the only one in the room. I told the waitress we had a birthday in our group only to watch her fill salt and pepper shakers in an empty dining room before bringing the check along with the birthday dessert at the same time. The staff in general was disinterested. Unfortunate.
The food was delicious and the patio seating was heavenly! Heaters at the table made for a pleasant experience on a cooler Arizona Winter evening
We had a very good dinner after a day of golf. Excellent food with a good waitress, Melinda.
Wonderful menu and great food.
It was a wonderful brunch. Love the atmosphere and will go back again
Good food but service was just a little slow. There was a wedding and a convention group so the slowness was understandably We were there for an enjoyable evening
Food was great. We will come again
Great restaurant for our visiting friends. Thank you!
This is a great place to have a really good meal in a nice atmosphere. The service is excellent.
We always go to El Chorro when we visit Phoenix
A "GoTo" restaurant in Scottsdale. Always good. I'll keep on coming back.
Very disappointed. We always try to make El Chorro part of our dining experiences when in Scottsdale. Right at the beginning I knew it wasn’t going to be a good evening when our Open Table reservation was discovered to have been made for a week later than I thought I had. I was given a blank stare by the young hostess and essentially told we can’t help you. After the manager got involved we were accommodated in either the main dining room or in the bar. We chose the bar. It was then that things got worse. The servers were pleasant, but unfortunately the food was room temperature at best and lacked any flavor, especially the Caesar salad. After the dinner I realized it might be time to move on to the thousands of other options Scottsdale has to offer.
Enjoyed a wonderful evening with friends! Food was perfection, service was wonderful and the setting is lovely. Will definitely return.
I went to El Chorro with high hopes to celebrate my mom's birthday. After a long day at work all you want to do is go to a nice restuarant where you can go relax and enjoy some good food. But unfortunately our experience at El Chorro was just the opposite.
After we got seated our server kept on coming to the table forcing us to order food. When you go to a place like this you want settle down, have a drink or two, order some starters and then main course. However right after I ordered the drinks within few minutes we had to order starters, and within a minute she came back to the table and asked if we were ready to order our main course. I felt extremely rushed, and all I wanted to do was to walk out of the restuarant.
Anyway the server said we will get you some complimentary sticky buns which we never got. We got our drinks, and starters and within 10-15 min we got our main course. My reservation was at 7:15 pm, and we were done with our dinner by 8:15. Seemed like they just wanted to get us out of the restaurant. The server kept on hovering around the table waiting for us to finish so that she can bring us the check.
The table next to us where 2 couples were seated were treated extremely nicely by there server, and the seemed to have enjoyed there food.
You dont enjoy your food when you are have a bad experience.
I shared my experience with the manager, and she said I am sorry i will give you some sticky buns to take home with. What they dont understand I was not there to have complimentary sticky buns but instead have a good experience, and by giving me a box of sticky buns wont change my experience.
So overall a bad experience
It was awful and the food was terrible and it took forever. We would never recommend.
Our wait staff Vicki was energetic, helpful and fun.
Enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner.
Everything was good, except wish we would have had a better view of the mountains.
I had asked for outdoor dining, and my request was honored.
Maybe more sticky buns!
