You may wonder why I rated overall poor after the other higher ratings. My wife and I have bee to El Chorro on numerous occasions but this last visit was the most disappointing. I ordered the fresh catch and was told they had run out. I then switched to the featured salmon dish and was told they had run out. How can you be out of these two entrees for a 6:45 pm reservation on a Saturday night? What is even more offensive, no one from management even bothered to apologize. This is not the El Chorro we have come to enjoy on so many occasions. Will I go back, probably, but no time soon. There are too many other good restaurants in the area.
Everything as usual was great- when the misters were turned off we got a little warm
Great place, the food is great and the location is perfect.
My 65 th birthday!
It was a very nice time.
Always enjoy El Chorro. The only disappointment was the prime rib being taken off the menu for the summer.
My wife wrote the previous comments. Her meal was very good. I had a different experience. I've been dining at El Chorro since the 1960's. My food has always been good to excellent. This time, not so. The first disappointment was not having the prime rib available on a Saturday night. My selection was the seasonal fish, which was explained to me to be a variety of sea bass. Normally I like sea bass. First, it was served skin-side up, not a pleasant presentation. I've eaten at many fine restaurants and never has a grilled skin-on fish served skin-side up. Most importantly, the meat in the center of the cut was a mushy texture.
In spite of the poor food, our waiter was attentive and the ambiance was good.
Our whole experience was sub-par all around with the most disappointing aspect being the food. We ordered the famous chateaubriand for two along with the fish special which was a type of fish flown in from Australia. The chateaubriand consisted of four slices of meat surrounded by some small potatoes, asparagus, and carrots that had been loosely thrown together for garnish. To be fair, the meat tasted very good, but all the vegetables were undercooked and a far cry from how this dish used to be presented in the past. The fish special was almost inedible. It was undercooked and it had so much gelatinous fat in the middle that my wife, who’s very much a texture person, couldn’t finish her entree. For dessert, we ordered both the peach and the apple pies and neither was good. The peaches were flavorless and the crust had more flavor. The apples tasted like they came from a can you get at the grocery store. To top this whole experience off, our waitress, about a quarter of the way into the meal, adopted a fake English accent and proceeded to speak to us in this voice the rest of the time. It quickly became irritating and distracting. There was a time when a dinner at the El Chorro Lodge meant a certain level of professionalism and a true fine dining experience with classic cuisine. However, after our experience, it will be a long time before we return...if ever again.
Loved the meals, little overpriced for what is included, sticky buns were amazing
A bit pricy, nice wait staff, decent, but unremarkable food. Went for dinner expecting a bit more in-terms of choices and the air vents were blowing very cold.
Took Nana to brunch for her Birthday. Great food and service! We have been a few time and it never disappoints.
Our server, Jaymi, was attentive and there when we needed her. We had a lovely table visit with the manager Nate and GM, Ryan welcomed us in and showed great hospitality. Lovely dining experience because the food was amazing, too!
Great ambiance and food. Loved bringing our friends here. Thank you!
Our waiter was very attentive. Beautiful scenery and very good food.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at this restaurant as a matter fact or returning this weekend
My college-age daughter and I went to El Chorro - a favorite - Thursday night. Anticipating warm temperatures, I made a reservation for “inside seating” (you are given the option). When we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess and two other women. I gave them our name, and was again asked “Inside or outside.” I said “inside.” One of the women then asked if I was sure. I said I thought so. Then, the women all said it was going to cool off, the sun was about to set, etc, and it would be great. I asked if being seated INSIDE, we could be close to the outside/window, and that was dismissed. We relented, and sat outside. Yes, it cooled off, yes, the sunset was lovely, BUT (and this is a huge “BUT”) there were millions and millions of bugs that landed on us and crawled up us, starting about halfway through dinner. My daughter didn’t want to make a scene by asking to move inside, since CLEARLY the employees hadn’t wanted us to choose inside. As we were finishing, another waitress came to the group seated next to us with a can of Deep Woods OFF and sprayed all their legs, saying, “Oh, they are all over you!!” After chatting about the bug problem, the waitress didn’t ask us if we needed to be sprayed, and when ours came back, she didn’t say anything. We paid and left. When we got home, my daughter had more that 20 bites on each leg, and about a dozen on her back. I had a few on my legs, arms, and one on my face. By the next day, my daughter’s legs were swollen, and the bites were turning a yellowish color. Later, I got a call from Carly (one of the 3 women at reception) asking about our experience. I told her what happened. She didn’t know what to say - literally, was completely silent awhile - but then said THEY KNOW it’s a problem and “Usually spray before dinner service begins.” Did not say “I’m sorry.” She did say “next time” I can “just ask to move inside,” and they “will accommodate” us. Hmmm.... really??
There will not be a next time, Carly.
Lovely front patio, fabulous food and super waitress. The price is just fine. Highly recommend this Arizona gem
Great wine selection and fairly priced.
Service was also great. Same for ambience.
Food was good, portions on the small side and overpriced.
Fantastic place! Love the bubbles and juice option! ;) Patio was gorgeous and staff was so friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back next time we're in Scottsdale!
Yes the atmosphere is wonderful. The food is good but it isn't great. Honestly with some better seasoning, this place could be stellar.
We dined outside looking at Camelback mountain. The food was amazing and the service was great!
Our food was cold
Very slow service. Huge on the upscale of food. Im not sure why this requires 50 characters to reply.
Great food and a gorgeous view. On a beautiful evening in paradise valley nothing is better
Great food! Great service! The patio for dining was perfect‼️
It was my third time at El Charo. Love the restaurant and location which makes it a great outdoor spot to eat. Service was excellent but...... Grouper was over cooked for both of us who ordered it. It was the featured fish but not there finest. The waitress suggested the lobster bites for an appetizer and on the menu for years. Without looking at the price, we followed Nicole’s suggestion. Wow! $55 for an appetizer is highway robbery or lobster bites. We were so surprised by the $55 we had to ask if it was right. Bummer! We will come again but not order lobster bites
We went to El Chorro for my wife’s 69th with friends and all had entrees off of the Restaurant week menu and it was fabulous we all enjoyed it and one of our friends said they thought it was the best desert she had ever had!!!
All 3 courses were a complete disappointment. The onion soup needed
more broth an was very rich. The salad was
very salty and my friends half was ok. The sticky buns were hard an VERY dry. We mentioned this to some guy who stopped by. He said do you want them boxed up. No inquiry at all. The grouper was very good but the 2 sauces were for meat, not seafood. I asked for another sauce but all they had was drawn butter. Tarter, lemon caper, oh no. The guy said we don’t have capers. The beet ginger cake was atrocious. Basically I left hungry after paying $72.00. My friend had the filet which was excellent. She tried eating the rest of my salty salad an couldn’t
eat it either. She had the chocolate dessert and was fine w/that. I might try brunch an hope the sticky buns an eggs Benedict are still as good as they use to be. I am still very let down by this dinner. I’ve gone to El Chorro for 30 yrs an never had disappointment like this.
Great wonderful place. Wonderful service. Asked for more sticky buns. Now you have to order 6 and pay so since there were only two of us we left wanting more and enjoyed our delicious food. They got our orders right which was great because they were very similar.
Beautiful brunch seating. Server was busy. My crab Benedict was sensational. The cobbs were less than desirable. They commented that they should have had omelets.
Our birthday notice was not acknowledged until we mentioned when the check came. 🙁
Leftovers.....crammed in a box and had to throw away
The food, service and ambiance was wonderful! Great place to relax enjoy good food with friends or family.
All was fine, but we were a little disappointed in our server. She was not very accommodating or pleasant.
Wonderful evening with Mummy Mountain Views and lights....food was fantastic, service was better - highly recommend this restaurant -
Another great evening dining on the patio.
We really loved the feeling of El Choro. In fact my foursome already has a plan to come back. The setting and ambience is just lovely. We enjoyed our dinners of fish and steak along with a a very tasty salad.
We were pleastently suprised to be seated in the Classroom area outside! It was so delightful, which enhanced the entire evening. The service and entire experience was outstanding.
onion soup and grouper were wonderful!!
Had I been offered another sticky bun, now we’ed be talking!!
Wasn’t a fan of the desert
One of our favorite places to go and the weather was perfect for the patio. Great food and drink menu. Love the view of Camelback.
Special dinner for son and fiancé
The most beautiful outdoor dining patio. Food is delicious as well.
