El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s homage to Argentina's beloved asados, traditional backyard barbecues featuring platters of rustic flame-finished grilled beef. This Argentinian-influenced steakhouse, located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” has built a reputation as Chicago's go-to destination for beef, South American wine and live-fire cooking.

Our patio is sat on a first come first serve basis. Please let us know if you would like to sit outside and we will do our best to accommodate. Your reservation will allow us to plan and accommodate you inside the restaurant to ensure that you have a great time.

We came for a date night and good steak and it did not disappoint! We got the beef empanadas and they were amazing! The steak was cooked perfectly and the agnolotti pasta had the best taste!! Would definitely recommend!

second time here. thought i’d give it another chance. ordered different items. everything was decent at best. they try too hard with too many toppings on the shrimp and oysters. totally overpriced for what you get. could have gone to maple and ash or shaw’s for the same price and had a much better meal. steaks are average too.

My boyfriend and I came here for a date night. We booked our reservation through open table and it was really seamless. We arrived and checked in and the hostess sat us right away. The layout of the restaurant is very intimate dining so the next table sitting next to you is literally next to you. The other issue is that the tables was extremely wobbly and it was literally the only table available unless we wanted to sit close to the door which on 25 degree night in Chicago is not ideal.

Let's get into the food;

We ordered the empanadas (beef) which were absolutely delicious.
The oysters are great. 4 come in one order and they were delicious.
We ordered two steaks - Mine was the cap and I ordered it medium. The steak is extremely thick and it was impossible to cut through. My BF ordered the filet and it was precut, ordered his medium and it was cold and dry.
The cream of spinach was very different, a little bit on the watery side and they added bread crumb to make the base heavy. It did miss the mark and it was challenging to spoon out of the little bowl they serve it in.

Service - The service was amazing and the team at El Che go above and beyond to host you. Our waiter was great and checked us throughout the night.

Cocktails - We tried 4 different cocktails and it was okay a little bit on the boozey side which one would not complain but a great cocktail should be balanced. If I want a cocktail on the rocks I completely understand however these were their classic cocktails.

For a 300 dollar meal, I was looking for the Wow factor and unfortunately did not experience it. Also the table and seating in the dining area - I would have expected better quality especially at this price point however I felt like I was sitting on IKEA furniture or break room table. It was not comfortable at all.

The 3 stars is truly for the amazing services and apps.

The service was phenomenal, Julio was very attentive and was knowledgeable about menu items when it came to accommodating my pregnant wife. The food was outstanding, so much so that my unborn son was doing flips in the womb when my Wife ate the shrimp dish!! The cocktails and mocktails were very tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely return for another special occasion!

The place is really nice the vibe is like classy elegant. We really enjoy our meal, we decided to pick Parrillada which is like a sampler of all of the grilled meats in the menu.
The empanadas are a must they were amazing!

We had an early dinner so the place wasn’t crowded yet. Ambiance is nice but the lighting was too dim. Service was on point. The wedge salad was amazing and good enough for 2 people. Empanada for $4 was a little over priced, I think. I had the pork shank - I couldn’t see what was going on with the dish (served in a deep bowl). It’s good but the pork should be cooked a little more. My hubby had the sirloin cap. Get it in medium, not medium rare. Good nevertheless. Skipped dessert but had their caramelized old fashioned and that was amazing!

My first time visiting El Che but it won’t be my last. The steak is like butter and melts in your mouth. Nothing is what you expect. We selected items per our waiter’s suggestion.

Food was tasty, but everything we ordered came really fast and we were rushed to eat. We ordered many food and were done with dinner including the steak in 50 min! it was crazy and didnt feel well in our tummy.

Service was meh. Food and drink was decent. Wine was delicious. Server seemed tired and was just going through the motions. Bus boys kept trying to clear our food away because we were one of the late reservations. Felt rushed.

Brought my wife here for a date. Absolutely amazing experience. We had 3 appetizers (you have to have the Empanadas), 2 sides and shared a 14oz rib eye. Some of the most perfect timed service I've ever had, everything came in at just the right time. Staff was also very helpful and helped us navigate the menu by identifying some great choices and gauge portion sizes. Prices are what you'd expect from a steakhouse, and felt very reasonable for both the experience and the flavors. Noise levels were not loud - we didn't have to should to have a conversation, yet it wasn't too quiet. Will definitely come back here.

Great beef! We had the parrillada for a party of 4 and was more than enough food. The wine options are very good and the alfajor dessert is a must have.
The place is very loud so plan accordingly.

Highly recommend. I took my lady there because she likes her steak, but everything was delicious, even for a meat avoider. The spaghetti was the best I've ever had (I know how Ironic that sounds). Also loved the empanadas. And she loved her steak, the NY Strip was thicker than anything i've ever seen before.

The beef was lacking flavor, portions were small, and the whole place seems like what a person who read a book about Argentinian Churrascos thinks one is like. Just another pricey Chicago restaurant

Outstanding service. Great appetizers. Steak was a bit chewy, though the Chimichurri sauce was very nice. Had the ribs, arugula salad, empanadas, and oysters. Thumbs up on all! Also had broccolini and steak frites, both terrific.

Overpriced and unexciting food. The grilled oysters tasted like bagel bites. NY strip was chewy with a large inedible tendon running through. Fat wasn’t rendered enough. Drinks were good.

This place is really good but it is pricey! I do feel like your getting great quality food and superior customer service but just be prepared to spend some money. Go for a special occasion, they definitely pull out all the stops! Great spot and we will be back for another celebratory dinner!

Food and service was good. Lobster tail was listed $24 on the menu, they charged us $29 on the bill. This was corrected once we pointed it out, but the fact that this would happen rubs me the wrong way. I won’t be back.
