The service was overall, pretty great. The food was phenomenal. I love the view of the kitchen with the roaring open grill in the background. I also recommend to bring your own drink umbrellas for a true celebration. The only negative thing is that I had to remind the staff it was my date's birthday even after I wrote it as a message in my online RSVP. But they quickly brought out a delicious chocolate lava cake with a sparkler on it. Will definitely recommend to others!
Great place the food was great the service was great the only thing is that you don't have valet parking
amazing every time
Loved it, from the staff to the food was good, also don’t forget to get dessert it was great.
Fantastic drinks, excellent service and superior food.
So good! This is one of the best steakhouses I have been to in Chicago! We loved everything we had! We ordered the beef empanadas (you order them by the single empanada), the provoleta, chorizo, grilled oysters, 14 oz ribeye, and garlic frites. I loved the mezcal drink I had too. Can’t wait to come back with friends!
The food at El Che is top-notch and the service is spectacular. Not only was the food delicious, but everyone in our party had FUN eating it.
Waiter took 20 minutes to come take our order. Food was excellent. 4.5/5
The #4 With A Smile cocktail was excellent. Our steaks, a ribeye and a NY, were high quality and cooked perfectly. We enjoyed the wedge salad but be sure to split it with someone. It’s chimichurri ranch was similar to a green goddess. Grilled asparagus was nicely grilled and smoky. The fritte were among the best we’ve ever had. You must try the coconut gelato.
Definitely the best Argentine restaurant we have tried in the Chicago area, but the bar is low. Highlights were the quality of the sausages and meats and the extensive Southern Cone wine list. We'd recommend switching to the Argentine service style of bringing out each meat when it is hot and fresh off the grill, rather than serving it all on a single platter. It's more fun that way, allows the meal to proceed at a comfortable pace and prevents the problem of everything getting cold half-way through the meal.
We wished there had been organic arugula and high quality shaved parmesan in the arugula salad; it was a bit bland. The provoleta needs to be re-thought. Either don't offer it or start with a higher quality aged provolone cheese. We weren't loving the pan-fried, charred surface on cheap provolone. We've enjoyed it more when it was grilled and when the flavorful cheese stood on its own.
Good choice. Steak was great!! Dada sauce was really excellent. Definitely go back.
Absolutely amazing! We are never disappointed when we go. The food is always delicious and so fresh
I mean it's certainly not bad. But for the price there are about 100 other places I'd rather go then return here. My steak was overcooked, my friend's date's was undercooked. Drinks were tasty. Octopus portion was so small! One leg? Anyways, they were the only place I could book for dinner at a reasonable time. I guess there was a reason they had so many open reservations when every other restaurant in West Loop was booked solid.
We went out to El Che for what we thought was going to be a nice dinner, we ordered Garlic Frites, and they were simply frozen fries popped in to the fryer - McDonalds fries are better.
We also ordered a cocktail and glass of wine - the cocktail was completely flat, and had no flavor, so we sent it back. We left after ordering fries and one cocktail for a better dining experience 2 blocks away.
Good spot for a nice-er dinner with friends or date night. Food and wine menu are strong, and the decor is trendy. Would recommend!
Food was amazing! Japanese sweet potatoes are a must!
Everything was AMAZBALLZZZ!!! The empanadas, bone marrow, steak, and garlic frites are awesome!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Server had great recommendations and was very attentive. Food and drink were great. Definitely will be returning.
Amazing as always :)
Great place for a date or just to meet up with friends. The drinks were good and the food was delicious. Everything we ordered was AMAZING! The service was on point as well. Will be back in the near future.
I’ve been to El Che a few times and they never disappoint. The food is fresh and served in a timely manner. The customer service is amazing and our waiter was awesome and attentive. Plus great drinks of course, my only regret is not taking any photos.
The service was incredible. We had an extremely knowledgeable and fun server. The food was excellent. I would eat Dada sauce on anything. We had terrific steaks, seafood and drinks. El Che provides a wonderful alternative to traditional fine dining.
Ok so my initial experience at this restaurant was not the best but, let me tell you how they made up for it. I gave this restaurant a negative review because my boyfriend and I did not enjoy our dinner at all. John Manion (executive chef/partner) reached out to me to hear more about my experience. After a couple emails he invited me back for dinner. Of course I agreed and I was not disappointed. I came back for dinner and after I was seated I was greeted by John which totally shocked me. He sat down and we spoke about the last time I dined at Che. He apologized and said he appreciates all feedback. When I say John made up for my previous experience HE MADE UP. First course I had a mezcal cocktail along with a delicious starter. It was fresh buratta, figs, basil and a vinaigrette. My second course was the Quail accompanied with a French red wine. That tiny bird was fire. So simple yet so delicious. Third was a New York strip on top of a thick slice of heirloom tomato with a little garlic aioli and chimichurri on top. The steak was perfect! This is where I start feeling spoiled lol. Next course was a tender juicy filet on top of asparagus with hollandaise topped with crispy fried onions. Of course another glass of wine this time a Malbec (black tears). Last but not least dessert. This was honestly one of my best dining experience out in Chicago. I am now a for-lifer at El Che
Great experience, the manager and our waitress were fabulous and treated us great. The food was amazing and they did not rush us at our table either.
Best food & service we’ve had in years!!
One of the best meals I’ve had in Chicago!
Absolutely amazing. Our server Dante was exceptional. Ordered a mix of foods for sharing. Empanadas, Garlic Parm fries, filet, short ribs, and all the sauces. Finished with the beignets. Will definitely return.
Excellent food, great service, romantic atmosphere. We had the meats platter and lobster. Outstanding. Great Malbec wine!
I should have checked....their portions are enormous, but the food is delicious. We only ordered salad and the Milanesa, and the leftovers will make a complete meal for two!
The sides we had were really good and unique - Japanese sweet potatoes and the heirloom tomatoes. Both steaks were over cooked and tough, not quite the quality I was expecting for the price.
Everyone was helpful and didn't make me feel awkward because I was dining alone on my birthday.
Delicious food and excellent service
Always a special time at El Che!!! Love it!!
The pork Milanese was the best thing I had all month. The donuts with dulce de leche were great too!!! Highly recommend getting these dishes with the caramelized rum old fashioned.
Had an incredible time at El Che last night! We were a party of 4 and had fun sampling their awesome menu. Our server Dante was extremely knowledgeable and kind. We had the empanadas, the shrimp, scallops, asparagus, the grilled bread, double cut Milanese style pork chop and the filet with Dada sauce (so good)! Finished the meal with some delicious cinnamon and sugar dusted beignets. We also got to sample Chef John’s new house beer (from baby gold bbq) and, as a pretty qualified beer drinker, I can tell you that it is outstanding. Can’t wait to return!
The service was great. Timely and offered good descriptions of the drinks and food. They accidentally brought out the wrong appetizer, but let us keep it at no charge while to have while we waited for the right one.
Food and service was phenomenal. We were very pleased with everything and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience. The food was outstanding. I don't think I can order steaks from anywhere else ever again because nothing will compare to how delicious that was. Don't miss the quail or the warm citrus olives. YUM. They also had a fantastic wine list and amazing service. This will certainly become a regular spot for my partner and I.
