El Che Steakhouse & Bar, Chicago's Argentine-influenced resto-bar, is Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s homage to the steak-heavy traditions of Argentina's Asador. Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row”, El Che opened in 2016 and has quickly built a reputation as Chicago's go-to destination for beef, wine, and live-fire cooking. A 12 ft. custom-built grill ignites a range of South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, seafood and novel barrio-inflected bites to perfection. The wine list is awesome. Food is Argentinian inspired, not traditional preparation or presentation so disappointing.

Loved everything about the place! Meat over wood is always great and this was right on!! Our server was excellent as well as the staff that fills your water and clears plates! We did the Parillada (not sure on spelling) platter with bone in ribeye upgrade and everything was delicious!! The sweetbreads and sausages were killer!! Looking forward to going back.

Very nice latin twist on a steahouse. Everything i had was great including the grilled prawns (head on) as an appetizer, steak as main entree and flan as dessert. All very tasty!

My wife and I had some wine at the bar before our reservation with a very congenial Alex.
Leigh, our waitress was pleasant and nice. We met the chef and general manager as
well, whose name was also Alex. The walk from Union Station was no problem.
We sampled several courses. The bread was fantastic and the salad was excellent, too.
My wife enjoyed the lobster dish and I enjoyed the quail (my first time). A broccoli dish
and potato dish complemented our rib-eye steak perfectly. We had no room for
dessert but finished our meal off with an excellent cup of coffee. It was amazing
to see how all their entrees were cooked on the wood-fired grill that actually
raised and lowered. Will definitely come back. Kudos to all the other people
who took the time to talk with us as well. We were definitely paid attention to!

We felt the food, even the lighter dishes, were very heavy. The mezcal cocktail was delicious. The arugula salad was good, but over-dressed. All of the vegetable sides we were heavy. The flan was great, but felt the glaze on top was unnecessary. Our waiter was very attentive and the rest of the staff as well. Unfortunately, we left feeling too full, but not in a pleasant way.

Great atmosphere.. The sides, service, and wine were the highlights of the meal, all were great. We ordered the New York strip steak and it was pretty tough. Seemed as though most people were ordering the ribeye, that could be what they are known for. I only visit Chicago two to three time a year and seeing how there are so many restaurants, not likely to try El Che again.

The steak was good and I enjoyed the food. However, I was underwhelmed with the handling of my wheat allergy. While they went the extra mile to call and ask about my allergies, the implementation of this information the night of my dinner fell short. I was assured by the waitress that my side selection was gluten free but with the exception of the cheese fondue portion but when it arrived, it definitely had breading so I waited and inquired. Sure enough it was flour and she immediately said she would take it back great! However, what that left me with essentially was a sweet potato with chimichurri sauce which wasn't that appetizing.

The El Che staff helped us celebrate our anniversary in the most special way. We started off the night with complimentary glasses of sparkling wine and ended it with a dessert with a sparkler.

Menu could have had more options. My pasta was just ok. Have had better empanadas. The kale ones had too much kale. Steaks were good, one filet was very salty. Garlic fries great. Flan was great. Argentine music would have been nice! Prices were up there with other great steakhouses, should not have been.

The rib eye steak was tough and difficult to cut because of all of the tendons and grizzle. It was very large and flavorful though. The low end quality of the meat doesn't justify the $48 a la carte price tag. It is not the quality that you would expect at any other typical steak house in the city. The broccoli with feta was interesting. The French fries were too greasy. The service was good for the most part. The wait staff were on it, but the bartender was very slow. Our first drink took 10-15 minutes and latter in the evening they ran out of eggs and literally had to run out to get them to make a Pisco sour so that took even longer.

Had a wonderful dinner. The food was all amazing, my only complaint is that it went way too fast. Dinner for 4 people with 2 apps, 2 mains and sides and wine and dessert and it was like 45 minutes! They didn't course out the meal slow enough so by the end we still have half a bottle of wine -- which we gladly sipped and drank at our leisure.

The limited menu is excellent. The hanger steak is delicious with a great smokey flavor from cooking over wood. The serving is large enough to share or take home for a wonderful left overs.
The sides, appetizers and dessert were all excellent. This place is a gem.

We sat at the chef's counter and it was an amazing experience, with personal service, an outstanding selection of menu items and great wine. We highly recommend it. It is also much quieter at the counter, allowing conversation and watching the cooking. It's warm at the wood fired cooking counter so be prepared!

Good-everything was good,nice happy hour menu which is open 5-7 pm everyday...Had the grilled oysters and swordfish and pork chops. I was sitting at bar waiting for my friend and when I went to ask the hostess for the table she said she gave it away as it was now 7:15. Fair enough...They sat us at a high top which I am not crazy about eating dinner on that kind of table so asked to move to one of the regular tables,which they had multiple open...was not super busy and by 9 o’clock it was wide open so not too sure why we couldn’t have a regular table. Will be back for happy hour but probably not for full blown dinner!
